  1. What total turds. That father should be ashamed. Also the owner. Equal parts guilty.
  2. I was actually just reading a facebook thread similar and it backed up what you say exactly. One breeder was saying that they will never ever breed a litter for the pet market. It kind of left me wondering really, what’s so bad about that? If you breed responsibly and ethically and within reason I really can’t see how supplying the public with just (well bred, well adjusted and sound) pets can be such a cardinal sin? I thought I must just have missed something. I possibly still have! Haha.
  3. I suggest you check out the litters listed on DOL for Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Pretty hard to sink lower than that, even by using Gumtree. Noticed that. While there are so many of these pour souls turning up at the pounds, still.................. IMO the dodgy ones are a lot of the cause. Registered or not.
  4. I'm not sure if you are replying to me but in my experience the people who say you shouldn't advertise on places like Gumtree do usually follow it up with you shouldn't be breeding if you don't have plenty of homes lined up. Was directed at Florise, sorry rebanne! I didn't say a wait list determines your quality as a breeder. Nor did I say it was a good thing to have a wait list. And I am silly because I have been waiting 12 months for a pup from my chosen breeder? How can someone get a point across when people can't comprehend simple statements and then attack you for something THEY decided you said? time to exit this thread. Sorry, I apologise. Posting from my phone on little sleep doesn’t help. What I meant was it seemed so odd to say reputable breeders should have people lining up, so do plenty of dodgy ones, and plenty of fabulous breeders do not. There’s a whole heap of variables underlying in that statement that just makes it read like a real stinker. Apologies for my muffled initial response, but still a load of crap. We waited over 12 months for our dog, we also had one offered to us instantly by one very very good breeder and one fairly shonky one. We’d made a decision and we stuck to it, but sometimes people cancel, things happen, breeders/customers might change their mind. I can’t say I would blame a breeder for casting the net far and wide in search of the ideal home. It might not always just magically appear to you. Whoever said the problem can be solved with more information is spot on! You’ll always get one or two time wasters but you can cut those off at the knee early with complete and comprehensive info in your add.

  6. How can you assume its not hard to work with her and its very hard to not put her in situations that worry her when you never know when or where or what the next one may be? Definitely agree re the vet and a consult with a behaviourist though. Poor thing, must be rough being her sometimes. You sound like you're doing a great job managing her though, fingers crossed its a small bump in the road.
  7. I guess that's a risk you take with any puppy though in a way. You can take as many preventative measures as you can but no one can guarantee you won't end up with a dog who isn't quite with it or is reactive etc. The odds are certainly not on your side should you adopt puppy from the pound rather than a reputable breeder but there's still a promise it could go either way!
  8. Not always so I'm sure. Who is to say a wait list determines your quality as a breeder? I know lots of people have posted on here they don't keep a wait list these days, or some breeds are less or overly common and easy to come by. What a silly blanket statement that is!
  9. AWMIGAWD. Adorable! Congrats all!
  10. She looks very pretty and very serene to me, Delilah is very pretty. I look forward to her pretty photos and updates in any case!
  11. So what's the story with the mysterious houseguest? I see you've signed up for a year of photos which indicates a long-term guest and I saw in another thread you mentioned foster/guest. I'm ever so curious! And she is beautiful too.
  12. Hi DOL travel-brains! Looking to take off camping for a weekend in Vic but have no idea where to start. We were looking somewhere nice and lakeside where dogs are welcome, perhaps the Murray… Not fussed how far we need to drive, we’re off for an adventure! Looks like lots of dog friendly places but none where there’s any area for dogs to have an off-lead swim. Don’t mind heading off the beaten track either, any suggestions for spots or am I barking up the wrong tree?
  13. We had such a battle on NYE. Next door were setting them off in the court we live in. Gus had a little confusion bark, more I suspect at the whizzing and colours than anything then settled back to sleep after we let him out for a wee but Rosie was pitching a fit! She was shaking and drooling and whining for hours after. I’ve never been so peed off in my life. Needless to say the police didn’t show after a few calls (I normally hate to be that person, but as far as I’m concerned metres from my house is far too close for comfort, and oi dipshit, it’s illegal) and the last guy was apologetic but said it is a crazy night for them, which I get. Fair point. So we endured fireworks outside the bedroom window until 3. And the drunken shrieking, and their dog out on the street with them running around barking like a mad thing. All good though. I mowed my lawn at 8am.
  14. I'm in! 52 weeks of our adventures might be fun. We're trying to do more 'stuff' this year, so perhaps it'll help kick my butt into gear!
  15. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
  16. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
  17. Gus has always shown some interest but only actually got in for the first time at about 5 months when he was out with other dogs. Rosie had the same deal as Hank. Just wouldn't touch it. We find she's better with other dogs swimming and where she can see land on the other side. Can't say I blame her!
  18. I think someone, possibly hankodie also made the point that perhaps the odds swaying this way might have a bit to do with the number of people that do work full time. I'd love to see some numbers of dogs housed to full-time workers vs those who stay at home and work out how this actually corresponds and why the dogs were dumped. I know several home situations that are less than perfect but I really do take some offence to being told I'm not a suitable candidate because we work full time (ev en though there's more to our situation than that) and thatmmy dogs must be miserable. I'm also quite curious as to why we wouldn't be suited as we are a couple without kids. We don't plan on having any. I make sure my dogs interact appropriately with kids and we have friends who have kids and they're exposed to them often. If heaven forbid the fertility fairy knocks me on the head we end up with a baby on the way I can tell you now we wouldn't wind up with backyard ornaments. Our dogs are our first kids. We dote on them, they are loved and are family. I think any situation is workable if you make the effort. My heart just breaks at the thought of people being turned away for such reasons and (especially bulldogs! A byb bulldog is a sad sad thing health wise quite often) finding what they need in pets paradise or Gumtree. I understand its absolutely your own prerogative but I'd love for you to come meet my dogs and tell me they're unhappy and are missing out. The american bulldog next door has people home all day and still wanders the streets and eats chum. There has to be more to a decision than your work life.
  19. What about setting up a temporary run? Bunnings have some really good wire panels (compost panels) lots of people on here use for puppy pens. If you got enough of them I'm imagining you could fashion a run and pen from laundry to yard.
  20. Yep. My bored, miserable dogs are lying out in the sun with a nice juicy bone, though I guess if they could they would run away. Oh dear is all I can manage  You heartless wench! I'll go open their gate and help them, shall I? :p
  21. So at what point does it become OK to go back to work? How is the transition expected to go. Pup leaves mum, arrives in a new place where someone e is always around to entertain, feed and stimulate pup, month passes and pup finds himself home alone of a day. Personally I feel you start the way you intend to carry on, its gotta be a nasty shock when pup hasn't learned how to amuse himself and decides to dig/chew or bark. None of which are problems here with Gus. Again, Rosie who was raised with someone always around is the opposite.
  22. Holy crap that is simultaneously adorable and terrifying haha! I might pop you an email in the new year. Prepare the plans for the house extension! We have plenty of work to do. Haha.
