Well sorry guys. We are all useless puppy raisers and should all be ashamed. I for one am off to take my miserable and disposable dogs out for tea and then to a friends place for a play with their dogs and a swim for new years eve. Beats being blatantly insulted by someone who so clearly knows my dog and my situation better than I.

[melbourne] Morons Letting Off Fireworks

Or west. Haha. Next door have been going since about 2. Unashamedly called the police an hour ago but nothing yet. Rosie is losing her shit and in a flap either running around the house or taking off under the bed. So we are taking them out to the pub for tea and I'll be making another angry call. -
Mental Description Of A Dog
Steph M replied to Pepper21's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Wow. Please keep us all posted. I'd love to find a really good club who can actually gauge what my creeps need and what they enjoy and how they tick rather than learn along with the group scenarios. Although not sure a schutzhund flattie is what I'm after. Haha. We can rule that sucker out for both of us! -
Almost wonder if this is an experiment. How bizarre the whole post is!

What a load of horse shit. We both work full time and have raised a super happy well adjusted dog who is happy and content in his routine at 9 months. He doesn't lack exercise, training, attention or socialisation. He is bright and fun and spends his day with our other dog (who was raised with someone home all the time and has real separation issues) sleeping, playing in his two pools or chewing bones. We check in on him via Skype and never once have I seen a depressed dog. Rubbish like this is why people go to pet shops. You've just discounted most of the adult population. You've left very few candidates there. Show me these maladjusted sad dogs and I might have time for this but other than that I really take offense.

So sorry guys. So massively late to the party. My technology all went mad at once. Argh!!! Here's the link to all my lovely Kepala photos. All are gorgeous, so feel free to post your faves if you fancy sharing. I couldn't pick just a few!

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Steph M replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
Yes, if we ever cross paths you will hear us long before you see us too....haha. Thanks for the handy tip! I will implement it while on holidays! -
We have one of each and both are fabulous on their own merits. Ex-pound dog, through a rescue is very sweet, biddable and funny. Super loving but scared of her own farts (literally) and new things like fireworks, marquees at markets and even things like changing the bed sheets throw her off and she sulks for anywhere between two days to twenty minutes. She's also very drivey. More so than I was prepared for (we adjust. No chooks for me though!) On top of that she panics when left alone and destroys most anything she's left with. None of these things were made known to us on adoption. Her foster carer worked from home, so she was never left alone. Had no other animals and we were told she was only concerned about men (a shorter list what she isn't scared of,!) If I'd known that all I might have decided against her, but probably not. We have adapted and she is a fab little dog. Gus is the pb and we know what we are getting and he is amazing. Such a fun dog and a great fit with us. I can say I probably would go through the pound or rescue again, I'd always love a purebred but sometimes the mutts get you. Even if they pull your washing off the line and kill birds...

Sounds fine to me! Haha.

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Steph M replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
We had a lovely Christmas! I couldn't leave the pups at home so we took them to mum and Gus maneuvered his first big flight of stairs. I wish I'd filmed it. He kinda slid/crawled down the first time, then he had it. Though midnight wee was interesting with my sister and her boyfriend on the couch together, they got a surprise flattie nose to all the crevices. Haha! That'll teach ya... They spent more time outside than I would have liked, mainly due to baby/grandma/generally not enough room for them to do loony laps. But they were great. Hardly a peep, unless Brooke or I walked past the gate, then there was some piteous high pitched 'can I come?' barks from Gus and Rosie. Needless to say they were also spoiled and excellent present unwrappers. Lots of tasty things to eat and the hilarity of Brooke, Gus, Rosie and I squashed into a tiny spare room will not long be forgotten. Nor will Gus waking me up every time the baby across the hall made a peep. I get it, dawg but that baby isn't ours... PS- on goofy retriever grins....a study...haha. OH one more thing- We seem to be having a knob dog episode again. Gus is 9 months so in full blown knob dog, most things are bearable. The destruction of beds and deafness aren't much of a problem. He has cheap bedding and will do anything for food, so I call that bluff... One thing is driving me bananas though, we get in the car and as soon as we stop at the park he will start barking, it's like the excitement doesn't die off until we get back in the car after. It's not constant, just when something happens that doesn't involve him. He barks when I stop to talk to someone, when another dog is playing with Rosie...it's really annoying. I've had to get him a 'FRIENDLY' collar because almost 40kg of black dog barking in your face is pretty crap (he did this to one woman sitting down on a chair. I could have killed him. She jumped a mile. I was so apologetic!) mind you he's wagging his back end and grinning, it isn't aggressive, just attention seeking and jerk-dog-behaviour. So basically when I stop to chat he sits and barks at me. I can redirect it briefly with asking him to sit or fetch something or growling at him, I don't let people look at him or engage with him when he's doing it and I always tell him off with a NO which works for a minute or so, he's never been one for a long attention span. Sounds like a little thing but I don't like the idea of people being scared of him, even momentarily. I should probably be leashing him and taking him home but it's not always practical with the two dogs and I don't generally have time for two separate walks and I don't want to punish Rosie because her brother is a dick. My next step might be something like a citronella collar or something just for the park. I loathe the idea but it's a real pain in the ass habit and I'm out of ideas. Oh we're so getting the snip early 2014... -
I can't see how parvo is less or more risky from seats as opposed to floor? And if someone is leaking, what's the difference then I'd hope the owner deals with this appropriately and brings a dang towel. Also kids in vet waiting rooms can be as bad as clinic cats. I'd much rather a dog on the seat haha. Not great parenting to let your kid touch get his hands on everything, you don't imagine there's germs on things there? Not everything is the dog owners fault. And peeing on things does not a bad owner make. Have you ever had a dog or cat with a bladder chill? No one gets much warning. Marking is another story, but pee and fur and disinfecting is part and parcel. I personally don't pop mine on the seats, Gus is too big but happy for someone with a smaller dog to do so. Just makes it easier on me, one less butt for him to want to sniff (and be denied) Also re cat carriers. I'd much rather they were on seats! A hissing spitting magic box on the floor is a challenge for even the best behaved dog...

Hahaha, with a dane you'd go through about a tub a day on the recommended amount, surely! So we know the quantities are a bit off, 3 scoops for Gus would make it pretty absurd. Last I weighed him he was about 38 or so, I suspect closer to 40 now but would have to wrangle him onto the scales to be sure.... Would also have to share with Miss Rosie. She's the whippet x at about 12kg, again, best guess... What would you suggest as a dose? They're both 8.5 months old and fairly active. I've been wanting to try them for a while but wanted to start them both on raw first and voila! Here we are. :) PS- Huski congrats on becoming a grandmother!

Some absolute D-Bag who had squished himself into Lycra and looked like a badly packed sausage managed to smack into Gus (almost 40kg of big happy, slow moving dog, impressive to miss him) on his bike (on a shared path in an off-lead dog park) and then had the nerve to say he needs to learn what ringing the bike bell means and that he dropped his phone because of it! to which I ever so politely replied that perhaps he shouldn't have headphones in and even better, could watch where he was going... needless to say Gus came out pretty bruised on the ribs and is now less than keen on bikes and gets right out of the way when he spots one. Sigh. All it takes is one idiot! Needless to say we have to work on that before even thinking about his ET as a possibility for post-2015.

First casualty... In his defense he did knock it off with the happy tail by accident and it made a good noise and rolled. I saw it happen but was stuck on the phone. Within about 30 seconds it was in this shape. It's been a week with no destruction. I am winning! That face cracks me up though, the total innocence! -
Oh guys, that is so awesome. I love that!!!! Needs the benny hill theme....hahaha.

It really was quite something! There was no drama, no bickering and no size-ism between dogs. And as for the facilities, they’re amazing. We all agreed we’d holidayed in less flash places. I so wanted to get in the pool. It looked far too inviting! Haha. Lucky dogs….

The reject shop have a handful too if you're stuck! ;) -
Wow. Yours are much nicer than mine! Though I did get some cracker (no pun!) photos of santa and Sarah in her life-jacket! Haha. I will try upload tonight. I got stung with surprise babysitting last night so that blew that idea.... Gus and Rosie were both pooped after, Gus more so. He went out for a wee, fell asleep on the floor just inside the door after. We put the tree up while he was out and he woke up and pretty well pooped his little pants. First xmas tree and some sneak put it up while he was out cold! Heartless...

I've packed the camera. And I sure hope my doggy Kris Kringle doesn't mind appalling wrapping. Very hard to wrap anything doggie with a 30kg black demon hanging over you longingly! Also best wishes to Dakota, Carissa! The mystery bugs are the worst!
