  1. I'd strongly recommend you stay well away from environments that allow dogs to run around together, freestyle with little supervision. Thoroughly inspect anywhere you consider going - look for good fencing and look at the sleeping arrangements, how many staff and so on. I'd be looking at places in the Terrey Hills area personally.
  2. I was told it had to be fresh pineapple and all of mine loved it but unfortunately for me, my chief poop eater just stops temporarily and goes back to it. She lived in a breeder's kennel for years and probably developed the habit out of boredom and it's been impossible to stop. If it was just outside I wouldn't worry but she brings the turds in and plays with them first, sometimes leaving portions behind. I discovered a half eaten turd under her blankets last night, hideous (I have a poor sense of smell!). I've increased the amount of her food, she isn't fat and wasn't thin either however that hasn't stopped it. I must admit it is a habit I find very hard to live with, as she likes to sit on my lap and burp in my face!!
  3. I also walk them before I go to work. I don't believe in working full time and having a puppy or young dog, I know people do it but it wouldn't work for me. All I'd do is spend my day feeling guilty and worrying what they were up to. The young dogs I had dug up the whole yard and all the plants in it. I'm not prepared to do it again.
  4. My dogs have a doggie door so they can come and go into the lounge room. I shut the rest of the doors. For future use, I also had a door cut into the garage but have hardly used it to this point. Dogs bark outside because they are stimulated by things or if they are bored, lonely etc. My dogs are very quiet and people always ask how is this so? It's because they can get inside to the warm and they also have each other. Sure they will occasionally bark at some very strange noise but the only time I had a complaint was when I fostered 2 young dogs and they were playing and barking at the same time. My neighbour who complained said even 1 dog bark was very annoying to her ...
  5. Very sad for you Kirty, what a fun loving and happy dog he was. RIP Champa
  6. My dogs with the worst health problems have been the Italian Greyhounds, my first one was also a "money pit" for 9 years.
  7. I've had a house full of cross bred dogs for over 10 years and there's rarely been a bad dog. I test them (carefully) with other dogs, cats, my neighbour's kids. I had to euthanase one dog for severe aggression with people and other dogs but that may well have been a brain tumour judging by other behaviour. I've had quite a few purebreds amongst them and rescue Italian Greyhounds. One of the most difficult dogs was purebred - a Whippet. Whilst I'd be careful about cross breed puppies, the dogs I've taken have all been adults and some of the most wonderful dogs on the planet - you simply couldn't fault them in any way, loving, well behaved and more.
  8. the Animal Welfare League in Brisbane is also a good place to go. Petrescue definitely covers a great range of dogs too. Perhaps you could offer to foster a dog for a rescue group - you will save a life and also get to see how you feel about the dog - I'm a veteran foster carer and there's only a few that I really wanted to keep over the years! WHy not contact JRT Rescue a member here, she's an expert on Jack Russells and I think the broken coated ones are easier to own than the short coated for some reason. Jill would be happy to share her expertise. (I've got a JRT by the way - they are quite naughty but I love them). Good luck.
  9. My little darling went to a wonderful new home today, I had a few tears but I could not be happier and they've sent me some happy snaps tonight so all good. Thank you to Denise at PAWS for advertising my little man - Denise now has her own website in case anyone wants to have a look - www.deniseatpaws.com.au. She is no longer just "PAWS" but is "Denise at PAWS" and has a new website.
  10. That's ridiculous, someone is dreaming it up!! I'd take a guess that the dog may have Italian Greyhound in the mix as they can develop a lot of bald areas and also have some body areas without much hair.
  11. Good news for these Tibbies but I think there's a Tibbie and a Tibbie cross in Renbury right now Mita.
  12. He's trusting that most people are stupid, will believe anything he says and can't decipher an autopsy report - if they can access it. This wasn't done by a small dog, that is quite ridiculous - something larger and much much stronger caused those horrific injuries. There were no small dogs in the photos of all the dogs with Wags they took that day. What a prize a--e.
  13. It was a standard poodle that killed a smaller dog in my local dog park, I was so shocked at the time but have learned since then that this level of aggression is not unheard of in the breed. I've only rescued the odd miniature and toys and never had any problems. It will put you under an enormous amount of pressure to keep a dog with prey drive if you want to keep owning/rescuing smaller animals. It's also not great for them to be terrorised either.
  14. I always thought there had to be some sort of standard / number limitation / licence for running a boarding facility? This obviously contravenes everything.
  15. He's got another FB page just called "Farmer Dave" where he's really feeling sorry for himself. Not one iota of sympathy or empathy for how Wags' owner feels. It's just all about him, woe is Farmer Dave. Please ........
  16. Sorry Issy, have been flat out - was on the phone for over 3 hrs last night which is pretty typical of my evenings with rescue work!
  17. How wonderful to hear of someone who is keen to learn and doing her best to help and calm two frightened little poundies. BTW Yellowgirl .... love your sig photo. She was a really nice lady DDD and is really looking out for these two little girls. Sig is Seuss, Madeline and Pepper :) Darling Seuss is a recent addition with thanks and eternal gratitude to our very own Dogmad Anything for you my dear friend xx
  18. This is Hozier, he's an 8 yr old male Whippet type who is in foster care with me, having been rescued by Iggy Rescue a few weeks ago. He's in Sydney but can be rehomed interstate, pref. with a female Whippet for company!
  19. One side of the story? How many sides are there? The poor dog is dead, mauled to death at his facility - photos show a small dog in with large and extra large breeds, many of them. This is not vitriol, this is fact however I don't mind saying that I consider FD to be a completely irresponsible, money grabbing unprintable for placing so many dogs at risk, day after day. So many more stories coming out of the woodwork. Seriously, what do you expect people to say?
