  1. You said "as a rescuer" in your post above. I'm a rescuer, I rescue dogs from pounds and owners and rehome them. Foster caring is a wonderful thing to do but quite different as rescuing is a massive undertaking, both financially, emotionally and physically. It's pretty demanding stuff. It does also sound like the rescue group you are with do give you an awful lot of responsibility, it's myself and Indigirl that have the final say with our rescue. However we all work differently. Which rescue are you fostering for can I ask?
  2. I can't see why the pound won't work with numerous rescue groups. I know of another country pound that will only work with one person and it means that dogs and no doubt all the cats get euthanased because one person can't generally do it all.
  3. Many country pounds have 100% euthanasia rate and extremely unpleasant facilities. I'd like to see it change, right around Australia. It's a disgrace.
  4. RIP sweet Jasper, I'm so sorry for your sad loss and the hole he's left in your heart.
  5. So happy to report that this little fellow has found a fantastic home now!! Yay happy days Alfred Yes, fantastic home and I get to keep my foster dog - channels Golum - my precious - a bit longer LOL .. not keen to part with him at all if the truth be known!! Is that an Ig Jane? The one in the pics in the Whippy Wonder Bed? No Hazy - it's a Chihuahua cross, so much easier than an Iggy LOL

  7. How can someone invest 12, 14 or 17 years into a dog and give them up - happening all the time in Sydney. It's a disgrace and most of them aren't in great condition.
  8. I've worked at shelters, one thing guaranteed to rile dogs up is when you let a dog loose running up and down outside the kennels. It's not good for the dog outside or the dogs inside, it's stressful. The kelpie was apparently left there like that regularly. The open cans are a real worry, it really looks like a facility that isn't being managed at all properly. If you have a dangerous dog then it should be padlocked or otherwise very safely secured into it's pen. Don't leave loose dogs running around, put them in a pen - why you'd want to leave your own dog there I don't know. If it was supposed to be as a guard dog then this pound really needs to change it's facility to something far more secure, building-wise with an alarm etc etc. Spending money on good quality animal care is obviously very low on their agenda. it would be freezing in there and pretty miserable for those impounded.

  10. Lowlifes, shame he didn't die in a car accident, they won't be sorry or even comprehend the suffering they've caused. They are monsters, all of them.
  11. What a waste of a busy rescuer's time, I had no idea that it had to be repeated. I'd like to think there are some rescue groups whose Clause 16D wouldn't be renewed because they do a crap job but I'm sure that won't happen .... sigh.
  12. Does not match the crime, that's for sure, bloody scumbag.
  13. I've just found out about two rescues in Townsville from my friend - there is Angel Paws and Townsville Cats and Dogs. There was a Golden Retriever Rescue in QLD that were fantastic, I'm sure they would still be going - try Googling?
  14. RIP Roger, taken far too soon, so very sad for you.
  15. So sorry for your loss, RIP Mini. Take care of yourself.
  16. If they have tiles or floorboards in the house, they need to put down some rubber backed matting as I've found this really helps dogs in this condition, helps them stay more stable on their feet. Also, have they been to a vet? Some dogs need to be on painkillers (liver function needs to be tested but there are alternatives if it isn't good) permanently. I have arthritis - it's pretty painful and I have to take painkillers but I also take supplements and that has managed it very well for many years. Dogs can also take supplements, available online or from the vet - green lipped mussels etc, needs to be an all round program to do as much as you can to help your pet at this stage.
  17. What about that woman who was in court recently - QLD I think - after the police found damning evidence on her mobile phone - eek ...
  18. Agreed, I'm not sure that this wasn't some sicko getting his kicks.
