Well I'm an exception to this rule - I believe it is my job to protect my dogs from potential danger and they are absolutely not given an opportunity to behave in that way. Why are people so stupid??

Lead The Way Walk Melbourne

Sounds great, we rehome most of our Italian Greyhounds, Whippets and Cresteds to Victoria! Unfortunately we are in NSW but we have carers and the adopters down there. I am happy to alert them via our Facebook page. Is there an official website? -
Wheaten Terriers In Rescue
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Sheridan's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Except he's not listed as a cross breed, he's listed as a wheaten terrier (full name: soft-coated wheaten terrier) which are the colour of wheat. Wrong and misleading. I have also experienced this - I replied to a Petrescue ad rehoming an Italian Greyhound. I emailed and said "how do you know this dog is a purebred Italian Greyhound". They didn't of course but thought it made the mongrel much more interesting ... it was changed after I explained they were misleading people. It wasn't even an Iggy cross .... -
Saturday Senior

You can't beat an oldie, I love Hermione Valbitz! I'd like to list 12 yr old "Tia", a Staffy cross. The poor girl has had a rough life, she lost a leg when she got it caught on a fence during a storm a few years ago. Her owners always kept her outside. After one of them moved to Sydney a couple of years ago, she's lived outside in a very hot area - she's never had a flea treatment in her life Anyhow, her owner met a man who didn't like Tia or the cat so they both had to go so she could get on with her new life. She's now living with a foster carer with her cat friend (who is a gorgeous grey male and 5 yrs old). She will soon be ready to go after some vet checks etc. She was desexed at least. She has also lived with other medium sized dogs but will be retested. -
Rescue Needed
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Nekhbet's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think the issue is that rescues only have so many foster carers and also specialise in the dogs they take. There are groups that specialise in working breeds so hopefully they will have a space. Unfortunately when you get a space it's not hard to fill usually, no matter what sorts of dogs you rescue ... -
I usually have elderly dogs and have bought rubber mats from Bunnings - quite inexpensive but they provide the secure grip that helps the dogs stay upright. Offcuts of carpets with non-slip backing will also help. I've lost 2 dogs over the years whose back legs just gave way and nothing could be done, it came on over a period of months during which time the mats etc helped. Good luck, alternative therapies are certainly worth a look at these times.

Rescue Needed
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Nekhbet's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Rescues are very full at the moment. A few months ago we were trying to help a magnificent male BC, purebred, 18 months of age, unwanted by his owner and living a life of neglect with too little to eat, etc. Nothing from BC Rescue, no one wanted this dog. I'd put it on here, on Facebook and so on. In the end, through a rescue connected friend, a workmate of hers just happened to be looking for a BC. I was shocked at how hard it was to rehome a young, lovely, purebred dog. Rescue's getting harder these days. -
Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Not really the same scenario as the live baiting situation, my dogs have very sadly killed the odd bird and blue tongue - I've even rushed one to the vet but that's very different. This is en masse cruel treatment on a deliberate basis. I have a Jack Russell and she would catch and kill a rat if she could find one. Very different from me, heading down to a seller of rats and bringing them back here and running around my garden with one on a string in front of my dog. I wouldn't dream of doing anything like that, ever. At least Jack Russells do make a quick job of their prey. Greyhounds don't work in the same way and the animals suffered immensely. The callousness of the people involved, even after they were caught and interviewed, remains very shocking to me - it shouldn't really shock me when I know it's an industry with a phenomenal amount of poor treatment of the very animals they proclaim to "love". -

I'd be asking the council to reduce it, however it's a country pound probably without much funding ... -

I've been asked about greyhounds by a few people since Monday night, they wondered what my thoughts were etc. I was at pains to point out that they are wonderful dogs and should not be blamed, luckily the people I've spoken to realised it is the people that are the problem. -

I'm presuming they are vaccinating and chipping?? If not, I'd be calling the local council and asking why they are doing that. -

Trust Worthy Rescue ?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Staffy_luv's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
That would be a red flag for me... There's your answer. I hate to say it but I know of one "rescue groups" out there deliberately making puppies to sell .... there was another but they stopped. If you want a very open and honest rescue group to help - that really does need help - I could recommend PAWS, Greyhound Rescue and Save Our Strays. All have absolutely enormous vet bills and/or overheads which the adoption fees don't make up for. They are all registered charities that get audited etc. VIC has it's own share of equally fantastic groups. -

Very cute - how old is this little girl? -
Great news, poor people and poor dog, sounds like he's had a really tough time. Hope something terrible happens to the people that stole him, they are scum.

Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Yes, they came across as morally bankrupt and without even a shred of compassion. There is no doubt that what they were doing was torture involving a HUGE amount of suffering for the poor animals. It is totally unacceptable and needless with all the electronics available today that can replicate sounds. I found the glee with which the torture was done, very disturbing - I've woken constantly during the night with the images running around my head and I'm sure I will for a long time. I watched the show knowing that would be the result but was not prepared to ignore it. I'm just disgusted with the monsters shown on the program and was not at all convinced that any of the officials involved actually gave a crap about it. Where there is money, there is corruption. -

It was disgusting, I'm sick to the pits of my stomach. One animal - a possum - went around the track 26 times, each time getting a bit more destroyed. A rabbit, attacked by numerous dogs - but still alive ... The cruelty involved will keep me awake. So many people - high profile - were involved and they were nothing but callous scum. There is no justification for this except to line your pockets. -
RIP WWW, he'll leave a big hole in your heart after so many years together.

I used Meadowmist years ago and was happy enough with it then. As far as I can see the ownership hasn't changed so I would need more than a single negative review , particularly from a poster who joined in order to publsish the poor review, to not use them. Tussa - not saying you didn't have a bad experience - just that damning a business without context is a little unfair. I assume from your wording that you lost your pet and if that is the case you do have my utmost sympathy. Sorry but I've heard more than one bad experience with this particular kennel, I've also been there in person and didn't leave my dog there.
