  1. Gus loves capsicums so much he broke into our fenced off vegie garden and ate all of them, straight off the bush lol. Lettuce is also a big favourite of his. Shez isn't so keen on vegies and prefers cheese or toast.
  2. No.. I love both of my dogs very much but my girl is extremely special to me and always will be. She is my heart dog. My partner is the same, he hasn't warmed to our boy who we got in October very much. Don't get me wrong, he loves him, but doesn't necessarily always like him and I must admit sometimes I am the same. We will love him and look after him for the rest of his days but it is just not the same bond we share with our girl.
  3. Motorsport. I wish I could take my girl with us, she loves wearing her workshop shirt and would be the perfect mascot but unfortunately most of the places we race are private property and have stock on the property so no doggies allowed. Also 4wding/fishing, she LOVES coming away on 4wd/fishing trips but a lot of the time we go to national parks where dogs are not allowed or places where they lay a lot of 1080 so she stays at home.
  4. So glad to hear he found his mate. Thank dog for microchips!
  5. It's beyond a joke now. They (well more so Mark) are digging their hole deeper and deeper and it's getting ridiculous. I cringe everytime I see a status update from him on my newsfeed. I wish they would take a step back and look at this from an outsiders point of view and just shut everything down. Should really have done that from the start. Can anyone recommend a reputable rescue based in SA? I've heard not so good things about the other more public rescues and after this will be very careful about who I support.
  6. Another update from Mark Aldridge (sorry not sure how to do the screenshot): RSPCA arrived with multiple police cars and served a summons for animal cruelty, for age related illness of the animals taken, also for brandy for injures that we're evident before Moorook had her, also for sick cat that was dumped the day before the RSPCA first raid. Seems shelters are responsible for animals condition when they arrive, so best not accept sick or injured animals, work that out. I agree with comments that this is being handled the wrong way. I started this thread wanting to help MAS or find out if what the RSPCA did was right and now I don't even want to come in here as I'm embarrassed by the way Mark has been representing them and I'm not even affiliated with them.. I just got a dog from them! I personally don't have a problem with Moorook, as my boy came to me healthy and happy and in the end of the day, that is all that really matters to me but I am very quickly being put off by the comments from Mark and other MAS supporters. There is a right way and a wrong way to handle things like this and they have gone about it the very, very wrong way. Mark is hindering rather than helping and I think they need to ditch him before he puts his foot in it even more.
  7. Isn't discharging a gun right next to a road illegal? If it isn't, it should be! Yes, you are not permitted to discharge a firearm in a public area. Also, when travelling with firearms in your car, guns must be kept in gun bags completely clear and bullets must be kept in a seperate container that is locked. Not complying with either of these is a breach of firearms laws and would most likely end up with license and firearms being seized. If it happened as quickly as the owners are claiming there is no way the shooter could have got the gun out the bag, unlocked the ammo container, loaded the gun and shot. Sad that it is happened but as others have said- a dog off lead in a rural area is not going to be a good mix.
  8. A woman on the facebook page is claiming to have been with him half an hour before he was put to sleep. "I witnessed this photo being taken. This is at rspca burwood. I knew this dog well. He was healthy. He did not die of parvo. He did not have behavioural issues. He was not aggressive. He was a sweet, gentle boy who should not have been killed." I'm guessing she knows the creator/s of the page or was a 'liker' of the page which was already against RSPCA and she gave them this as another story to use. Nothing to say he is an RSPCA dog or the 'face' of MPW but his picture was definitely used for RSPCA MPW advertising. Now apparently RSPCA Vic have come back with details on the dog.. "we had thought from the limited information provided that Charlie was from NSW but we apologise if that is not the case. The information states that Charlie failed his temperament test in 2010 so that would mean he was still in quarantine and we never take pictures and use them publicly unless that pooch has already been adopted or is awaiting adoption. In both cases he would have already passed his health and temperament test." He wasn't used by the RSPCA for advertising. If a camera came and put a dog's picture in a paper, like they often do for charity events, it's different than the charity intentionally pimping out that dog as "the face of the event". It was one article in a local paper. I've had my photo in the local paper, hardly makes me the face of the event! Interesting about how the dog wouldn't have been out of quarantine if he hadn't passed health and temp test. Does anyone know the truth in that? I wasn't saying the RSPCA themselves used him, just that he was used to advertise an RSPCA event.

  10. They have finally posted an article which shows the full picture. Apparently being the "Face of MPW" now means having an article in the Heidelberg Weekly  So it's legit then? Can you please post a link to the article. http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=495762657156599&set=a.401040649962134.87772.401037836629082&type=1&theater
  11. The photo does look a bit wierd like maybe it could have been shopped but maybe it is because it is a photo of a picture in a magazine or something? The backgroud is definitely the RSPCA building at Burwood - if you look up a picture of the building it is definitely the same one in the background. Sounds like when RSPCA NSW were contacted they said they had no records and told them to speak to RSPCA Vic, and when Vic were contacted they said the same thing and said to contact NSW.
  12. Every dog is different and you know yours better than anyone, don't let anyone tell you she won't get on with any other particular breed just because they ight think they know best. Before you look at bringing home any potential new dog, take Kira to meet them and see how they interact. Things might be different when you get them home but you'll be able to tell pretty quickly if it's not going to work. I would have loved to get a puppy when we got our second dog last year, but I knew that a young dog would probably be too much for my girl and finding a dog that suited her as much as us was my main priority. We ended up with a 10 year old rescue dog and he is the perfect match. As for them meeting for the first time, it was a quick sniff of eachother then 'come and check out the backyard!' and we have not had one problem with the two of them getting along.
  13. So sorry to read this Pockets, truly awful. Harley looked like he was very much loved and I can't imagine what you and the owners are going through right now. Hopefully Tig will help ease their loss a little.
  14. My girl is 7 and has pretty bad arthritis in both back legs. She had a Cartophen injection every week for 4 weeks just over 6 months ago and has only recently in the last couple of weeks started to get sore again so in my opinion and from my experience it works wonders. She will be going back in shortly for another course. I tried supplementing the Cartrophen with pernaease powder but she wouldn't touch her food if it was in it (I don't blame her - it stinks! lol) After the injections she really didn't need anything else anyway. We just keep her exercise to a minimum and try to keep her fairly lean.
  15. Yep there is a train line and station in Euroa. Poor little thing has been out there on her own for 10 days now. I keep checking the facebook page for updates and am dissapointed everytime there is nothing, the poor owners must be stressed out of their minds. Thankfully the other dogs are all recovering well and Waggit (the one that had a fractured skull) is even up and about and walking. There was a video posted on the facebook page and she is a bit wobbly but you wouldn't even guess she has been in a massive accident like that. Keeping fingers crossed Cyan is found soon.
  16. What a beautiful dog and obviously very clever too!
  17. "A vet must be on hand it they are to evaluate the animals condition, and take them, Lola was forced to sign them over under duress, they were going to take them in any event, but then would have had an avenue to sue her for costs, which they made clear could wipe her out."
  18. That is one thing that you and I can agree on Jo... South Australia is too damn small, everyone knows everyone one way or another lol. Another update from Mark Aldridge: "I have to laugh out loud at the RSPCA, they have contact myself, Lola and the Minister and are refusing to deal with me as Moorooks spokesperson lol, and they are refusing to prove they had a vet on hand, because they did not, so all of their inspections were not lawful, neither was the taking of Moorooks animals and the euthanasia of their healthy dogs, interesting indeed"
  19. A post from one of the pages against the RSPCA SA.. thought it was interesting. 4284 dogs and puppies were received by RSPCA SA from 01/07/11 to 30/06/12. Of that number, 2044 were reclaimed by their owners. Out of the remaining 2240, 899 were put down. That is 40%... that means that nearly half the dogs that were not reclaimed were euthanised. 65% of those 899 dogs and puppies were put to sleep due to behavioural problems. That is 593 dogs. 593 dogs in 12 months that were deemed to have too severe behavioural problems that they could not be rehabilitated and rehomed? That's an average of 1.6 dogs a day killed just for their behaviour. 3942 cats found themselves unlucky enough to be received by this organisation in the same period. If you take out the 125 that were reclaimed by their owners, 56% were euthanized. That is 2125 cats and kittens given the green dream. That’s an average of 177 a month.
  20. Moorook posted a status not long ago saying they have euthanised dogs when quality of life was a concern. I believe this comment is in reference to the healthy, rehomable dogs that they receive. I don't know how many 'unrehomable dogs she has tucked out the back', but the shelter is not only the shelter but also her property and home.. if she wants to have dogs of her own, why can't she? They may not be rehomable to other people but she may be able to manage them.. there are many people on DOL that have a large number of dogs, some that would be 'unrehomable' to other people, what makes her and them any different? It seems a lot of this has come up after the RSPCA decided they want to build a shelter in the riverland... interesting timing for the organisation that has never had any problems with Moorook in the past during their regular inspections to suddenly decide things are not good enough there. The working bee saw over 100 people attend the shelter. Most enclosures are now concreted, have new fences and gates and things have been cleaned up. There is another working bee being held soon to complete the rest of the work. Mark Aldridge posted an update after the one that Snook has quoted saying that "Loxton Council will come to the table and entertain an development plan, that allows for both increase in numbers and non kill status."
  21. My understanding of a hoarder is someone that collects things and does not give them up. The dogs at Moorook at dumped there, either by their 'owners' or the council. I met Lola personally when I picked up my boy and although she was sad to say goodbye to him (as anyone would be saying goodbye to a dog that has been in their care for a period of time), she was also very happy that he was going to a new home and did not have any problems handing him over to me. I don't think hoarder is the correct term here. My dogs have never and will never go into boarding kennels.. I would prefer boarding kennels with grassed runs over concrete though. My girl has severe arthritis and any period of time spent on concrete would not be good for her.
  22. Yes the Rspca returned without advising ahead of time and without a warrant. When Lola would not let them enter the premises they left and returned 10 minutes later with the police saying they'd received death threats. They then forced their way in when the gates were opened to let a truck in, marked some of the runs and then when told the media and a lawyer were on the way left very quickly. The notices issued to Moorook are not due to be relooked at until the end of this month.. when they first arrived they said they were there to take more dogs and then later that day changed their story to say they were there to check on progress and help... Well they certainly didn't help! one of the dogs that was marked for seizure has been adopted. Apparently he was another old dog with no health issues. The other, a 7 yo shepherd mix was marked for jumping up when his run was approached. They are hoping to find him a new home before the rspca return. They are holding a working bee this weekend and finishing off the work that is needed to comply with the orders, one of which is all kennels need to be concreted. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought it wasn't good for dogs to be on concrete a majority of the time, especially oldies or those with arthritis? I know my vet certainly suggested keeping my arthritic girl off cold, hard surfaces where possible.
  23. They are posting pictures and details of quite a few dogs currently in BP - all with the caption "Please share just one baby - just one. Over 40 dogs with no more legal holding time! 40 may sound like a lot - but we are 25,000 - just one tag, just one share, just one email, just one dollar, makes it 50,000 - see how easy it is - do you think 50,000 people find 10 homes for just 10 dogs? That's 5,000 people per pooch. It is possible if we do something - no matter how small. If we do nothing, these sweet souls will be killed. You may be just one - but that is all it takes."
