  1. Sorry the place where I thought you can order them online doesn't appear to stock them anymore.
  2. Its raining and cold outside - you would never guess we are in the middle of summer so its inside or nothing .
  3. Yep it was the throwing the article at my feet I was concerned about with Kenzie. Might as we have called her Lexi .
  4. Well I just woke Kenzie up to try scent - hmmm back to the drawing board she has decided she can hold the metal but won't pick it up off the carpet. I wonder if I can start with wood and then go back to metal as she can pick that one up fine.
  5. The Spotted Devil - little Miss Kenzie's favourite thing is to be called to run through my legs (works better than her normal recall command ), but mainly because I didn't want to poison my possible recall words until she knew she would come whereas her "through" command I have stuffed around with before I have thrown her toy since she was 9 weeks old. Now at nearly 9 months she will actually call off chasing after Ness to come and run through my legs.
  6. Sendaways are fun spotted devil. Kenzie has been mucking around with a send to a hoop since she was 16 weeks. Funny thing is one day somebody at a UD box set up at training and without a second thought she offered going out to it and sitting in it. Within maybe 2-3 minutes she was doing pretty neat sendaways with some distance 5-6m possibly.
  7. Question Ptolomy (yeah I could email you but somebody else might want to know), at what point do you tell the dog its correct. You mentioned not wanting presents or anything so at what point do you take the article off the dog. Does it matter if the dog returns with it but drops it? Is all you are after that the dog picks up the correct article? Grabs at the correct article? Never had too many problems with Ness has she had retrieves with presents on each article before I started teaching scent. Kenzie obviously doesn't yet .
  8. I am off to play scent with little miss when she wakes - now I am keen to start her LOL. Well I should say start her off AGAIN . And yes Zoe makes really good sets - have three of hers  .
  9. Fair enough - there is no rush to trial though. Better to have the dog trained through the various levels and for you to be confident in there ability to know the work at a particular level rather than try and fluke a pass. Kenzie is nearly 9 months and people have seen me out and about doing bits with her and they keep asking me when will she trial in CCD/Novice, in fact there was pressure to have entered her at the trial on New Years Eve. Well I have a confession to make most of her training to date has been focused on the higher level exercises so nope she doesn't manage a full heel pattern with positions but by golly gosh her heelwork is a sight to behold. I tried a formal obedience recall with her the other day for the first time. Yep she was a bit confused so she wasn't racing in but she gave the most lovely front present (and only after I remembered I used her sisters command and haven't really put a command to the behavior for her yet). Much better than her sister though. ETA. Just for the record when Ness learnt scent Ptolomy was training her baby Beans to do scent and I think she was working on scent, hoop sendaways, weaving and hmm there was something else I remember seeing in the emails LOL.
  10. Oh nah sendaway is a piece of cake. Kenzie has already started on that and she can't do much of the ccd stuff . In fact considering she never trains with a lead on probably none of it  . And yep Ruby you will need plenty of sets of articles, although I think I got a bit carried away with all my sets for just 2 dogs . ETA. I started scent with Kenzie - well ok fetching the articles but in typical puppy fashion she wanted to munch my woods and leathers so I decided we would put that on hold. She wasn't too keen on retrieving the metal reliably although its been a few weeks since I have tried so I might dust off the articles and try again. I had a few higher priority things to work on like teaching a stay so I can get started on playing jump grids .
  11. Ruby81 you need a couple of sets of articles to use to train. When I was learning UD with Ness I had 2 sets. I now have 6 or 7 sets  . If you just leave them outside in the fresh air with lids off that is sufficient to descent them. Ok I had a quick squizzy at what I had and yep it was a case of keep moving forward and the dog eventually twigged to what I wanted. I will get off my backside and start Kenzie's scent work in the next week or so and then I might be of more help .
  12. Ness had those same issues and as Ptolomy said don't get stuck on the same level for too long. I will have a look back through my emails and see what transpired when Ness was learning as Ptolomy was helping me and I was emailing her with what was happening as it was happening.
  13. I think some breeds are naturally more handler focused. I know with my own experience with my two BC girls - my older girl would much rather be doing something with me then off playing and my new 8 month old pup is the same to a degree. She will play with other dogs if they want to play but can also be quite snobbish if she is involved in an activity with me.
  14. Common sense would suggest I wouldn't have thought so but then I know WA is one of the few states with compulsory height cards for obedience so somebody from there is more likely to know then I do. I know we didn't have to before we competed in Novice here in SA.
  15. yeah except whatever I did in the past few days is so not lasting. Had to subject the poor creature to a bath and so far its stayed in again now . The only thing is the other ear is back to looking perky happy too so might have to break out the tear mender on it as well.
  16. My two thoroughly enjoyed their turkey frames for breakfast and turkey necks for tea last night .
  17. I used a product called Tear Mender which I purchased from the canine shop. Its a liquid fabric glue. Some people have also recommended eyelash glue . Not sure if its working yet but I have been told by the sheltie people to keep in on until at least 12 months.
  18. Some ears do funny things for longer then that. My girl had nice BC ears at 6 months and it wasn't until 7 months that one started to fly so its had glue on it and I will continue to glue it until she hits 12 months as that is what I have had recommended. Not sure if its true with RR but I have been told some ears won't settle until they are 2 years.
  19. Well I just got some delivered and I had no problems splitting a carcass in half. Although freezer space was a bit of an issue so I only grabbed a few.
  20. Yep that linked worked - thats the one I used and hmm you know which part I am jealous about Ptolomy . All the gurus its sooooo NOT fair.
  21. ok I am jealous Caffy and Ptolomy - STOP with the teasing!!!!!!
  22. Ok this is my post for 2008 goals Well lets see hmm am I more consistent - not entirely but I am better than I was. I am certainly making more of an effort to not fall into bad habits and keep it exciting. I can hear you laughing at me Ptolomy . I did manage to finish off her JDM title, still chasing 2 legs of her ADM and 3 of her ADO but I did manage to achieve her SD title . Trialling in UD well yep I got there but I got there before the end of last year just and I think I did manage an open heel pattern with no missed positions - pretty sure that was her stunning performance at the Adelaide Royal show. I think we had fun mostly and well new puppy wasn't even on the cards .
  23. Well it would have died but a certain honorary Toller kept it pretty busy .
