Pretty sure I know Tassie is going as I have said for her to take plenty of notes on the foundation day for me .
-
Just stirring yah Ptolomy .
-
I dunno either but when they do they seem to get it better then those red dogs .
-
Maybe just start back at 2 but build up quite quickly.

I probably wouldn't go back to two articles Seita - that caused me headaches with Ness and it wasn't until I added more articles that she actually started scenting.
-
People keeping telling to let her be a puppy Seita. Her focus has been incredible right from the time she first came and its been hard not to over do it as people pointed out to me a lot of my early sessions were too long but then they also admitted if they tried that with their pups the pup would have switched off long ago whereas Kenzie was still involved in the session.
-
Hmm I don't think you could ruin her focus if you tried and I am trying as she is becoming much to like her big sister in that regard and I am just wanting her to be a puppy !!!!!!!!!
-
Maybe I'll send Kenzie for a holiday over to visit you Katie and you can train her for me .
-
Go Katie and Ruby - fantastic work .
-
I have always loved that photo of the two of them together - may Reagan be reunited with Ricky and may they both run free together. Hugs Piper.

Hmm I have 5 nice sets "special sets", 1 crappy set and 1 bits and pieces set. All for one dog .
-
Thats why I have some stupidly crazy number of sets out airing isn't it Ptolomy .

"Do you wanna jackpot" works for Ness in the UD ring to get her through signals heelwork after articles .

Waves at Ptolomy - oh yes Ness use to do the grabbing the first article bit even when she knew what she was doing but out of stress (as we would work through extending the ratio of number of finds to rewards). When we stayed with Ptolomy she put out a truckload of cans and would place the article out. I have to say I then did this a few times with her and Ness is so much better with the grabbing response. In fact at the last trial she searched for an extraodinary length of time and instead of snatching and returning with any old one she kept looking until she found the correct one and returned . Agree about not using tie downs. I tried tie downs with Ness and she would nudge to find the one that wasn't tied or was so determined about retrieving a tied one that she would pull the tie down off and retrieve the article anyway. Sue H suggested to place objects in long grass and have the dog find them (not just articles) so that they understand they are having to use their nose.

Even our super traditional club (don't get me started) won't recommend a check chain until the dogs are 6 months. So puppy classes are all done on flat collars. ETA. And the reason for not putting one on a 5 month old BC is that they tend to respond well to positive training. They are quick, smart, energetic little learners and usually pick things up quickly. Its not so much the tool but like anything its about training. I don't find a check chain adds anything to the learning process especially of bright young dogs.

Pools In Adelaide- Help Needed Please!

I take mine to the one at Glenside Vet Clinic once or twice a week. My older girl loves going and my youngster just comes to watch - can't get her in at this stage. -
I look back and can't believe I was stupid or foolish enough to run her . I had given her to a friend to run in the morning but that didn't work at all well and she only needed one more pass for her masters title so I sucked it in and ran her. Tell you by the end of the day I was in absolute agony but it was worth it .

Here you go Masters Jumping http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=MnpIS-TpvWg Compared with Masters Agility http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=C5SzDA0ZCRg Don't laugh at the handling I was running with a sprained ankle but still Ness didn't do too badly finishing off her Masters Jumping title and passing in Masters Agility.

Would have to be ACWA - agility dog club of Western Australia which train at the canine grounds .
-
I notice you are from Perth - not sure what club you train at but there are plenty of people who train over there using both food and toys. The agility clubs in particular are big on the use of toy rewards. I have had to work at using toys with my younger BC - now 9 months as she too isn't super keen on the use of food and can be pretty take it or leave it. She doesn't always eat her tea. I do use food occasionally now but quickly try and progress to using toys rather than food.

Fun Things To Train Inside In The Heat
ness replied to Kavik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tassie - I'll send you mine its warm today and yet both are eager as anything for some strange reason. I went downstairs to see what the pair were barking at and I was bombarded with tug toys for varying descriptions from both dogs. -
Its only just become an official title registered sport as of 1st of January this year . A few people have posted demos that they have done but are probably nothing in comparison to the sport overseas.
