  1. Ptolomy loading dose for that size dog is suggested at 4 scoops - maintenance is 2 scoops but I do agree with the mixing it in well. If you feed a lesser amount then it will just take longer to see the effect.
  2. Think its about finding what combinations works for your dog Jess. Both my two have had a course of cartrophen injections (not recently though - would be going back nearly 2 years now) and regarding cost I actually didn't find the course of cartrophen injections especially expensive but then I was still using supplements on top of the injections (at that time I had them both on Joint Guard).
  3. TheLBD = do as I say not do as I do eh. Glad to see the lessons are sticking sorta.
  4. She is getting around "ok" at home and even to the extent of having bought herself up the stairs in the last couple of days. Typical BC you can't keep them down for long . If she were much older I'd probably just accept that its how she was going to be for the rest of her life and make the appropriate modifications but she is still to young to not try for resolution if at all possible.
  5. Yep have tried acupuncture, she has heat packs twice a day and is massaged a couple of times a day to .
  6. Hmmm appointment 6 didn't end up so great - she has badly started off-loading weight off her right hind and was actually non-weight baring on it when I walked her out for a little bit. Not sure what to do with her poor girl but further underwater treadmill is now on hold until I can work out what is best .
  7. Depends what breed dog and personal preference. I am not so keen on leather but mostly due to the weight. I have bought an assorted collection but usually go back to my black dog leads. Nice to hold and good quality.
  8. Was interesting they asked if they could look at the video of the session after we had run it - much easier to see what is happening side on then it is while actually running the dog in the treadmill. She is certainly getting the hang of it more though I think. Only problem is she wasn't really tired for long after this session and will be interesting to see how she pulls up tomorrow.
  9. Back from today's session - we did some of what had been recommended but they are also keen to learn what needs to happen. Maybe we might start getting somewhere.
  10. Persephone the person who is giving me the advice is a well respected canine rehab person with qualifications in the field who does this sort of thing for a living day in day out. It is also fairly obvious from the video footage that its potentially not comfortable for her at that speed. The way it was put to me was try walking at 25% of your normal walking speed for 3 minutes and see what it feels like. The vet overseeing Kenz's rehab here was happy for input from elsewhere as while they have the facilities for this sort of thing I am not sure their knowledge matches up. In the end its the vet here who decides what happens but I can but make suggestions as to what we might go with. Everybody who has had any dealings with Kenz's case so far admits to it being especially complicated and the vet with the hydro facility said similar.
  11. Coogie I would certainly consider the RHVC supplement. Its a natural anti-inflam and Kenz had some good and very promising results on it for a number of months. I do still think its the one thing that has made the greatest improvement to her without any negative side effects. Like anything though different products work for different dogs. In your case though I would probably keep Issy on the Glyde while using the loading dose of the RHVC and then decide about cutting back on the Glyde. Have a plan for tomorrows hydro thanks to this guy. Kenz's treadmill speed is a pitiful 1.1MPH which is way to slow for a BC apparently. Tomorrow I am hoping to try 1.2-1.5 with only half the water in the tank .
  12. This was the rest of it "Collagen is a group of naturally occurring proteins that act like a ‘cement’ binding tissues – it is collagen that gives ligaments and tendons their strength and this in turn, strengthens overall body structures." I will see if I can get permission to post the full post
  13. There was an interesting FB post shared re Vitamin C written by a Canine Naturopath on the linkage of vitamin C, stress and collagen. Not sure how to share it here but there was a suggestion that good quality collagen is dependent on a good supply of Vitamin C.
  14. He looks to be doing well Cosmolo (from my lay perspective). Certainly seems to be using the leg well and even putting quite good weight on it when he stops.
  15. Bugger Cosmolo - thats not good Kenz's appointment to have stitches out was with the specialist and he did check to make sure things were going ok. Having said that my experience has been that the specialists are "surgeons" and good with that side of things but aren't especially knowledgeable about the rehab side of things. Kenz's has been happy to continue to liase however so i would certainly be approaching your specialist on moving forward. The advice I had from the specialist was rest (for the appropriate length of time), then gradually increasing leash walks and at some stage I also had it suggested that I do sit to stand type exercises. I did mention getting a physio's input into Kenz and he was happy for that to happen but left the physio side of things to my discretion. Although we already had an on-going history regarding rehab before Kenz ever had surgery for her MPL. Are you able to get a referral to a physio?
  16. You could check out the Back on Track coats - I know there is a NZ supplier DD.
  17. Hmm I paid ~$240-260 for 12 (6 sets of 2x2s's) I can't remember if that included freight or not. It may well have included freight as I have some recollection it was $35/set of 2.
  18. Ah see the solution was you should have bought her to Adelaide and left her and I could have returned her when it was solved .
  19. I got my 2x2s from Murray Tyler in Victoria. Very well made but certainly not cheap either.
  20. Plenty of dogs actually rehab fine without underwater treadmill Cosmolo - if what I have read on orthodogs is anything to go by. Good to hear he is getting on ok though and the specialist is happy.
  21. So Kenz went for hydrotherapy appointment number 4 late this afternoon. A few things were modified after a conversation with a rehab guru in the US. When we tried to up the treadmill speed her propensity to bunny hop also increased. She has her final appointment of her 5 on Thursday. Not sure at this stage if I will go ahead with any more somehow I am starting to think she is to bad and its not going to help .
  22. Yes I was going to say Tramadol can produce interesting effects from my experience. I also would be careful crushing the tramadol as I gather they aren't suppose to be crushed.
