  1. Wow great shots Ripley - Im hoping we will have a free weekend to get down to Sussex where my OH's parents are - they quite often go out on the boat fishing and see whales - Id love to be able to get closer shots than the ones I got from the cliffs.
  2. When I zoomed in on the photo, it actually looks like he's drinking a stubby of beer!
  3. This is the first year I've got there - I've been trying to go for the last few weekends but the weather has been bad. There was people there with good set ups - deck chairs, tables, eskies, telescopes, crackers and dip etc! Im hoping to go back next weekend and hopefully see some more. The whiteboard said 41 whales had gone past today - they can be very hard to spot though!
  4. Anyone else been whale watching and have pictures to share? We went today and saw two, but only got photos of one. It was quite far out, so these were taken at full zoom and hand held. Whale 1 by shellandriley, on Flickr A crop of the above Whale Crop 4 by shellandriley, on Flickr This one makes me laugh - they guys seems totally oblivious to the whale behind him Whale Crop 6 by shellandriley, on Flickr Theres more on my flickr page if interested.
  5. Taken on my 1.8 today. First time I've used it in a while. Week 24/52 - Riley by shellandriley, on Flickr

  7. Is the car harness the same as their usual harness, but with a seat belt attachment? I use the ezy dog harness to walk Riley, but I prefer a more padded one for use as a car harness.
  8. Will get him to give P a shot. He said he'll probably just use the 350D, but he did get some good shots on the auto mode yesterday. It seems auto is ok for anything still, but for something like Riley, if he moves his head slightly it picks a really odd focus point. The weathers been really crappy and I haven't managed to get out, so the closest thing I got to something moving yesterday to practice on my was Dad and my OH I set the camera up and took photos of them walking up the stairs, using the saw, hammering in nails etc. All my shots were perfectly focused so I was happy with that, and ended up setting one of my custom presets too. It was like a little movie out of photos - the 7D is much much quicker than the 350D!
  9. This weather is so average for practising! I need the rain to stop.
  10. I love the first one ange. I haven't put my 50mm 1.8 on the 7D yet - a must do for the weekend I think.
  11. Ill have to try and find something that moves - Riley is too lazy these days! In the meantime I've been browsing flickr checking out the exif data on alot of photos, it helps me learn
  12. I like the look of that one! Can I ask where you bought it please? I got it from one of my wholesalers. I thought they'd be easy to find, but just googled and couldn't see any (in Australia). If you wanted one, PM me and I can tag one on with my next dog toy order. From memory, Riley had a large and it was around the $20 - $25 mark.
  13. I just bought a new car harness for Riley. No plastic buckles, and its really padded too. Its called a Solvit Vehicle Safety Harness It doesn't plug into the seatbelt, it has a metal thing which you put around the seatbelt strap when its plugged in like normal. I found its better for less tangles.
  14. I seem to keep going to AV, then TV if its a moving object. I vary rarely go to M. I think I need to start though, so I get exactly what I want. I wrote myself out a few notes on a piece of paper tonight to stick in my camera bag. I keep forgetting how to get to things - like going from One shot to AI Servo today - I always turn the wrong dial and wonder why nothings happening. So many buttons!
  15. I think I froze outside before mucking around with the camera. Its so cold out there! Im hoping to get out on the weekend with the camera so will be able to have a go with some different subjects. I will try out the auto setting again then just for curiositys sake. ETA - It was me taking the shots on auto - OH hasn't used it yet. Ive deleted all the crappy ones but will see if I can dig up a few from the recycle bin.
  16. So hard to get a shot of Riley without a ball in his mouth! He loves showing off his toys. Week 23/52 - Riley by shellandriley, on Flickr
  17. Yeah Im not so worried about myself as I normally shoot manual, its just I gave the auto mode a shot, as I know thats what OH will use. Its not even that they need to be sharpened, all the auto setting shots are completely out of focus. I will have to get him to use a custom setting that Ill set up.
  18. Today I have learnt that it is sooooooooooo much harder to get a decent shot on the 7d than it is on the 350d! All of my shots on the green auto setting were rubbish!!! The ones I took on manual - mainly AV mode have come out much much better. Im a little worried. If OH picked up the camera he'll go straight to auto, and Im really struggling to get a ok shot out of it, even in natural light. None of them are focused, and all seem over exposed.

  20. I just bought a diffuser off ebay for $10 from a local place. I figured I can't go wrong for $10, and it will be easier than taping the card onto my camera. Might look a bit more normal too!
  21. Interesting. I will check them out, thanks!
  22. Does the plastic work well (considering) ? I just used a piece of white card to direct the flash upwards. It works, but it looks ridiculous I can't afford to invest in a external flash at the moment, but I did see this that someone posted on here recently http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/pop-up-flash-bounce/ and have been thinking of giving it a shot
  23. Here we go, one of the first shots out of the 7D. I did have to set up a dodgy pop up flash bounce as I hate the flash so much Levi the evil by shellandriley, on Flickr
