  1. You're finding out everything about what I adore about Chihuahuas! They are such resilient adaptable undemanding little guys. None of the fuss or drama that often comes with little dogs. A well bred chihuahua is a complete joy to be around.
  2. Wool mix is the approved shampoo for Chihuahuas dontya know???? It stops 'em from shrinking Glad the little guy is out of danger. He will be fine. They are such an adaptable and enchanting breed. He will find his feet soon enough wherever his place ends up being. Gruf and I are off to make zzzzzs as we have a 6am drive to Adelaide. Sleep well little Zac.
  3. yes good luck. Stay focused. Gah I found a pic of my little crew all together from way back when! Joseph (with his coat of many colours), Rita in the middle and Billy on the end. They are sitting on their chair at work in my old salon, so Pre 2006 sometime. I have to ask that man holding Zac in the OP reminds me of someone. He looks a bit like Dr.Condon, our family vet from way back (who is now a vet Chiro). Dr.Condon was the vet who helped me say goodbye to Billy when the time came.
  4. Last night I dreamt that I woke up during the night and my beloved Billy (RIP), was sitting on the other pillow just watching me sleep.
  5. I'm not sure how it's all connected but I posted on snooks FB post.
  6. I have not had to manage this issue personally either, but have known dogs bandaged with a hair roller of similar hard tube over the tail tip, then bandaged. I think I have seen DOLers post about this bandage method. Maybe someone can give extra detail. Personally I would probably look at taking some of the tail off so there is nice fresh tissue for healing.
  7. Wobbly you are spot on! I scored a narcissistic sociopath for a parent. She held me hostage and enslaved me, tortured me mentally and physically, and I knew nothing other than fear and terror for the first nine years of my life. Yes the consequences are deep seated, far reaching, enduring, incalculable. After being thrown around for a while, i finally got a diagnosis that fits this year. C-PTSD. It has opened doors for me. Big scary doors, but you don't know whats on the other side of the door until you open it, hey!
  8. My mother often said she was sending me away to a childrens home if i misbehaved. Mum sent away two of my dogs; i came home from school grabbed the lead to take him for a walk and she told me she had called the ranger to take him;i had to watch him being taken away. Another she got my brother to take to the pound when i was on school camp because she dug her roses out. Most of my dogs were given to me by my older brothers who got them from friends whose dog had pups. One was dumped on my front lawn by a friends friend. I also had a dog stolen from our yard when we were home inside. Another was hit by a car when my brother left the gate open. I didn't want to have dogs after all this as mum didn't like dogs and there was always the worry if they would be there when i came home. Oh and the aviary full of my budgies she let loose after i had a minor argument with her. Ahhh! too many bad memories;i feel sick now.. I hope it's not true about this woman. Parents hey, ...who'd have 'em!!
  9. A child may or may not say that but I can assure you, under some conditions, they sure would think it. By the time I was six I came to realise that neither of my parents really loved me. One wanted me dead, the other was just not engaged. Once the one that wanted me dead had left when I was nine, the next thing the other one did was take us for a drive to a 'posh area' and tip our Persian cat out of the car. And then drive to a nice paddock behind a factory and tip our pet rabbit out of the car. By the time I was nine, among other things, I learnt I was not loved, and I learnt that pets are disposable, and how to dispose of them. And I thought perhaps I might be next to be tipped out of the car. Oh, no, wait.... That happened a couple of times too.
  10. Feather Edge here too. Worth shipping from SA!
  11. Oh no some people want the feet trimmed on their spitz breeds, much the same way you would normally trim the foot of a Newfoundland or Golden Retriever by pulling up the coat between the toes and leveling with the top of the foot with thinning scissors, then pulling the hair back down between the toes and trimming the coat off level with the foot pad and going around the foot to take off stragglies, and blending into the pastern and hock. "outlining' is where we trim over more or less the entire coat to round off chest, belly, bum etc. Personally I think it make the dog look unbalanced and a bit speshal, and wrecks the coat texture, making those areas become nappy and fuzzy and harder to groom in the long run. And for very little actual benefit to ease grooming or shedding. Im not completely against trimming and clipping double coats when faced with owners who wont or cant manage a full coat due to laziness or financial restrictions, to ensure the comfort and sanitary benefit of the dog. I have several clients that just like the look of a 3/4 inch plush all over clip on their spitz breeds and run with that 2 or more times a year. If it means the dog is kept indoors and kept comfortable and sanitary, it is better to do it, and do it well, than get all pedantic and preachy about alternatives.
  12. He's nearly 8 months, and not desexed (yet - will happen in a few more months). Will keep your recommendations in mind! The only trimming I'd ever consider is his feet to reduce mud tracking, but they are supposed to have snow boots! He does have some hilarious looking longer hairs on some of his toes though! ah! at 8 months he's moving through coat change which is always a more challenging grooming time. I would suggest a professional groom before desexing him. Get one coat blow done first. Once desexed, over time these coats tend to get heavier and often don't blow out quite as easily as entire ones.
  13. Hey! The R & T opened AFTER me and i'm less than impressed! Adelaide Dog was in that shop when I chose my location, and then they moved up to the bigger shop, and then in came the R & T! They are pretty low key neighbours. And Karina and I would have nothing to laugh about if it wasnt for their , err, clientelle
  14. Oh hi I just saw this. Thanks for all those recs guys. Major blush! Redfeather you have a Lappie? how old? desexed or no? You are correct thinking it wont be a cheap job, but may not be as expensive as you expect. maybe 2 or 3 cartons of beer lol! If you are planning to use the services of a groomer before going away, please plan and book ahead, as we are coming into the super busy time of the year and calling a week ahead for a 2 to 3 hrs appointment at this time of year wont work. If a salon can fit you in at short notice in the warmer months id question why. They are either not busy for a reason, or are willing to packem rackem and stackem production line style which is never best for the dog. And please dont be the owner that puts off seeking professional help leaving it too long and then grumble when we have to be hard on the coat to try and fix it in a humane manner. Ps....it would be a pleasure to do a nice big double coat and not trim a single hair! It makes me ragey when I do a beautiful natural spitz coat that grooms up beautiful but the owners always want the bum trimmed or the feet trimmed or 'outlined' which I particularly hate! No one seems to be able to cope with a perfectly untouched spitz coat the way it should be, so it would be awesome
  15. I feel for everyone involved. None of us were there so apportioning blame is a guessing game at best. I have to say I somewhat agree with Purdies sentiments regarding the types of dogs we should be expecting to surround us in a modern urban environment. And I have to say personally, if that were my own dog, I would say a gentle goodbye at the vets. No, it's not the dogs fault, maybe it is somewhat the child's fault, maybe it is somewhat the dog owners fault, maybe it is somewhat the person supervising the children's fault, maybe it is somewhat the child's parents fault. It's a tragic debacle but I know I could not look at or trust my own dog the same way again. I would probably be angry for external forces putting us into that position, and feel like I had failed my own dog, but my dog would have to go bye bye.
  16. Can you clarify do you mean the suburb of North Adelaide, or Northern suburbs of Adelaide, or out of the suburban area north of Adelaide?
  17. no...... I am quite certain i have had nothing, nada, zip, zero to do with Justice happy state, whatsoever! That would be entirely to the tireless efforts of him mum. I have to admit I don't think I could manage under similar circumstances. You may not have had anything to do with Justice bouncing back after coming off of Prozac but you sure as hell have had A LOT to do with helping both Justice and myself cope with his anxiety. You very generously gave him somewhere he could run and explore that was stress free for both of us, go to great lengths to make your salon as stress free as possible for him (booking us in after your last client for the day, ringing me if the last client is running late picking up their dog so we don't bump in to them, letting us park around the back to avoid the street and anyone passing by with a dog, hiding Gruf so that Justice doesn't know he's there, rescheduling when he's having a really bad day and the way you support and encourage Justice when he's a bit anxious) and you've been a wonderful support to me, letting me talk out my stress and worry over him and giving good advice. You've been an absolute godsend and are so very appreciated. Thank you. Its nice to feel appreciated. :) It's you and Justice been doing all the hard work though!

  19. Shit, my games up. Its the treats, the magic treats
  20. Thats fantastic. I am kind of amused at the mild shaking in my presence. I have that effect on people too lol Just to clarify, Justice came to see me for a bath and pawdicure at my grooming salon, not far from where he lives. It wasn't a long trip up to Mannum. ........ But it would be awesome to see him back up there too
  21. No glitter! Just a warm spa, blow dry, cut and file pawdicure. And a belly full of treats. I don't think he could quite believe his luck! PS.....and I must put in a good word for Gruf, who kindly waits patiently and silently in his covered crate in the corner of the bathing room when Justice comes. Justice didn't have a clue that Gruf was in the same room.
  22. Justice aced his nail trim, bath & blowdry, .........and treat jar! How did he go after he left?
