  1. Thanks Happypaws :) Well, mixed news today, my friends who are interested in the puppy have three huskies and there may be some issues with the poor puppies lack of dog socialisation - it may not be fair on the puppy to go into an established pack. It is very hard to say right now as the puppy is in quarantine for kennel cough when they visited today. At 5 months the puppy license may no longer be present so careful consideration for both parties must be given. The puppy should have no problems in a solo dog house with someone who knows the breed and then I am sure he can be carefully socialised :) On a much brighter note, I have another experienced husky couple that are very keen on the old boy and will be calling the rescue first thing in the morning  Regarding huskies and cats: There are people with cats and huskies together, but I am pretty sure it would be a nightmare in my house. As you say a puppy would be the best for cohabitation with safe places for the cat to retreat to. Probably not something I would recommend to an inexperienced person, but a dog savvy person who understood the potential risks will probably have positive results :)
  2. Awe Happy Birthday Stan - yummo party pie
  3. Oh no, poor old fella - that just makes me want to cry I don't have the space, so very sad We will post on our Husky page and hope someone can find a home for a lovely old boy
  4. ooh, I just called the refuge and husky puppy Apache is available!!! Got 2 people red hot for him, just need be patient due to the kennel cough, but I am quite excited.
  5. Oh no! Tell you friend not to hold back and get his name in now, just to be on the safe side. If the pound knows there is a knowledgeable person in the wings, they may persuade the other people to look at another more suitable dog. I called them last Tuesday morning and discussed it and told them my friend is an experienced husky owner, I left my name and number and they said they would call me if the pre-arranged meeting didn't go through or was unsuitable. I suppose they need to be fair about it and there was someone there first, and they did say they prefer that these dogs go to people who understand their needs and character. I may call them again tomorrow and see if there is any news. :) Having said that, the first people may indeed be experienced with the breed - I wouldn't know and it is obviously not my business :) Either way it is looking like good news for the puppy and that is the most important thing :)
  6. Thanks happypaws , a bit of both really... they are quite an independent breed, but when we go to the park and things start to go a bit crazy, he will come and stand in front of her or beside her to protect her - which is highly unusual for a Husky :) At home they will take turns in shadowing and annoying each other  Hmm was curious as didn't take the breed as a kids dog ( as in follow them pretty much anywhere ) ... But good boy for standing next to her at crazy hour at the park !! He is definitely a lovely boy . Thanks Happypaws :) :) Huskies are generally great with kids, robust enough to not get knocked around and they love people in general and especially their family :) But as a young puppy they are generally not the ball of fluff to cuddle for a long time or fall asleep in your lap. They are full on and the mouthing is not fun when very young so they are not for the unsuspecting or faint-of-heart LOL Sadly there is a very young puppy in a rescue for not being the quiet cute cuddly puppy kids dream of The kid was scared of him :( Said puppy will either be rehomed this week or with a bit of luck the first people that booked a home visit say no, and my friend who is a husky person can apply to give him his deserved forever home :)
  7. Wow, those beds are full on - heavy weight though, are they available here ?
  8. 9. Agreed , the dog was a rescue though and some crazy mixes seem to be coming from the far north. The owner is very good with her though. I think she will be okay as the owner seems to be putting a lot of work into ensuring the dog is well socialised and behaves herself. Fingers crossed that no DA develops as this is going to be a big and powerful dog. I think this mix has the propensity to be dog and sex aggressive, but things seem to be going okay for now.
  10. Thanks DDD , I agree, it is so satisfying to see dogs having fun. :) It is funny that the one that looks small with head tilted is actually a 12 month old Malamute x Ridgeback and currently weighs 42kg

  15. I would like to place an Adoption bid for this fine specimen please..... he can bring the hooman foot too. Ahahahaha  THanks VM! We did have a nice Nanna nap after the event
  16. Thanks DDD, I will definitely take note of all the suggestions and try and make it bigger and better next year :) Easter weekend may not have been the best time but at the end of the day there is some money there to save a dog or two :)
  17. Thanks Westiemum :) Yep, he is a big boy for sure... and tastes pretty good apparently
  18. Thanks Westiemum :) And heres a couple of picture of my two crazy kids from this morning for ya :D
  19. Thanks :) It was our first go. One of our admins is an x footballer so we auctioned a signed Eagles jumper, but it really only went out on our Facebook page to a limited audience and I think Furbaby. The ladies from Furbaby were also very supportive of the event. Next year we will do it bigger and better with the experience we gained. We are just simple dog enthusiasts and we try to give back a little if we can. We have some members with Akitas and Swiss Shepherds and of course Tigger the greyhound so I may suggest if we get it bigger we share it around a little.
  20. No probs :) I have left my number with them incase the visit doesn't work out. So sad that the original owners dumped him because their kid was scared Poor little puppy. Yes, please let me know, about future husky and mal rescues - I don't really visit the sites or rescue page much, but we do have the contacts to help find good homes fast :) We ended up raising $1500 yesterday which I suppose was okay but I was a little disappointed with the amount, I expected double that. We will plan it better next year :)
