I thought that all the European stuff was based on using names from regions - like Champagne, Bordeaux, Oporto, Cornish Pasties etc? Will freely admit I am not fully conversant with all the ins and outs :) But thumbs up if the Moari people can get some ownership or compensation from them using a word from their language :) I don't like the chances when any country can make Bourbon, Whisky and even Sake is made in Australia ??

Most Of This Diet Stuff Is Bull Dust

For the sake of this argument I have highlighted what you said which has prompted this aspect of the "discussion". I would assume worst as being the cheapest supermarket kibble with spray on flavours etc. Not a prescription diet for an ill dog. You said worst and crap, not me, so you have to forgive me for being a bit confused as to why this has caused you to be so upset Had I been aware of Ambers condition and what food you were talking about I would been very careful not to upset anyone, especially someone with an ill dog.. So if this is me being stupid and disgraceful then so be it -

Well I was and you quoted me so you are the rude one. Giving someone shit about feeding a very ill dog, disgraceful I was quoting a general comment by Black_jackal which was a general comment about what a dog will go for. The other comments were using two extreme ends of the spectrum in talking about what is more appetising and using my daughter as an example. You need to back off... I care greatly about all dogs and especially ill ones. I am sorry you dog is unwell and I have no desire to make you feel sh1t. If you go to DDDs posts you will notice that I have basically said it doesn't matter what you feed Danny as long as you can get him to eat something... I will say this again - I am NOT giving you sh1t about your feeding of your ill dog so just give it a rest. -

What stupid comments. Umm you have obviously never seen the Hills L/D. You are all so totally off the mark it is just not even funny. It is soy based and has zero meaty smell. It is nothing like any other tinned dog food I have ever seen. So nothing like Maccies. *eyeroll man* Do you think I want to be forking out a fortune for this food? Like to see what you do when you have to deal with a dog in palliative care. erm, I wasn't talking about a prescription diet. I was making a light hearted remark about feeding kids so just relax and don't be so rude. -
Interestingly honey shouldn't go off. Scientists discovered honey thousands of years old, perfectly preserved. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/the-science-behind-honeys-eternal-shelf-life-1218690/?no-ist Regarding the candying of honey or crystallisation. Jarrah honey won't do this due to the low glucose levels and high fructose. Jarrah had a lean season last year due to the lower flowering of the trees. This year is looking more optimistic due to the late rainfall we had here. For me and probably partially because I am a proud West Australian is that I think raw cold extracted and filtered Jarrah is the very best honey in the world for medicinal purposes. :D TA 36+ is around $30 for 300g so while expensive for honey, it is pretty cheap as a medicine :) Raw Manuka is not able to be brought into WA due to the protection of our bee industry.

I honestly don't think the dog's preference is a very good indicator as quite like us humans, they'll go for good flavours first and have no knowledge of what is "best" for them. Mine would happily eat all the chocolate and lollies if given the chance, he'd probably even choose them over raw meat. Sugars and fats are rich in energy and an opportunistic carnivore will jump the chance to eat anything containing high levels of them. Plus smell is a huge factor too. +1 If I put a tray of McDonalds in front of my daughter and a piece of steamed fish... I know what would be eaten first  Steamed fish is of the devil. :vomit yep, give it to me in greasy batter please? For Ronin he has his raw and whole  -
Back in May, Ronin's Daddy,Yonjuro, made a great thread on honey. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/257387-honey-glorious-honey/ I mention one site in it. They are great. Or you could look at this one http://www.jarrahhoneyinfo.com/ Has online sellers. Thanks VM :)

That is great, I am a big fan of raw unheated honey and often rave about it . I always keep Jarrah TA 36 + in my doggy medicine cabinet. So glad to hear you have had some really good results Incidentally, and for the doubters, hospitals and burn units are using it topically as the MOST effective treatment and preventative for staph infections. This includes the renowned doctor and burn specialist who treated some of the Bali bombing survivors.

... They say the word Mauri comes from the Maori word meaning life force, so can't see how that the Maori people can get benefit from them using a word from the language? The Kangaroo says Australian sourced wild Kangaroo - so it is a bit misleading that it is all NZ??

... it seems to be only in their cat food and not in the dog food.

Puppy Loves Eating Paper/tissue
Yonjuro replied to LuccatheLagotto's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh yeah, Ronin was a shocker for this and still is to a certain extent. Drives me bonkers and never realised how many tissues and serviettes are left on the sidewalk. What we did was train him inside, by putting a tissue or serviette on the floor with a bit of white vinegar on it, pop him on lead - walk past and say leave it. We started with a wide berth and gradually got closer. We would reward each successful 'leave it' If you don't have much room you can have a second person near the item with foot ready to cover it if he goes for it. We also did the same with tissue/serviette on the coffee table. After success we would stop putting the vinegar on it. We have success 8/10 times these days but he will on occasions take his opportunity if it presents and I haven't seen it. Strange thing is he is more likely to leave a chicken bone on the pavement than a serviette! -
It could be US owned but made in NZ - dunno really

...gosh that is sad, not only an ignorant owner but also an owner of a cross between two very full-on breeds. The Siberian Husky crossed with an Alaskan Malamute is not uncommon and from what I gather the offspring don't differ widely from the two original breeds. A well bred Sibe or Mal is a handful for any dog owner let alone a cross of unknown temperament and health. As Little Gifts said I can see another dog going to a Northern Breed shelter

I happened upon this NZ made food on a US site and it seems very good for those that feed commercial wet foods. What is interesting is that it doesn't seem to be available in Australia as yet. The novel and single source proteins would seem to fill a section of the market. I contains no grains or potato nor any plant derived proteins. It was given a 5 out of 5 star rating on a particular American review site. http://www.mauripetfood.com I feed prey model raw so I don't have a horse in this race, but thought it might be interesting to others, or at least as a discussion point??

Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
Yonjuro replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/26326323/stings-target-greyhound-cruelty/ Stings target greyhound cruelty Covert stings at WA greyhound training facilities will be ramped up after revelations of barbaric east coast practices that have rocked the national sport. Racing and Wagering WA integrity boss Denis Borovica was adamant yesterday there was no systemic live baiting of greyhounds in this State after revelations by the ABC's Four Corners program on Monday night of the illegal practice in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. Disturbing footage showed some of the national sport's leading identities cruelly using live piglets, rabbits and possums to blood their greyhounds. One of them, dual Australian trainer of the year Darren McDonald, won last year's Perth Cup with his greyhound Keybow. Mr Borovica, who owns a former racing greyhound as a pet, said he was sickened by the vision and he promised to not only increase covert surveillance on WA's main racing facilities at Cannington, Mandurah and Northam, but also at private training tracks. And he promised career-threatening penalties to those who crossed the line on live baiting. "When you find people, give them the penalties that act as real deterrents to everybody else, to make it clear that this is career-ending stuff for greyhound trainers to get involved with," Mr Borovica said. "They will get the harshest penalties because it is considered to be the most heinous of offences. As much as we can be confident that we're on top of it and all over it, these things raise everyone's sensitivities and we will obviously be doing even more than we're doing (now). "The majority of the people in the industry would be ashamed of what's happened." Mr Borovica said WA had unique rules that prohibited live bait animals to be taken on to a greyhound racing property. He said there were no WA facilities where live baiting could occur that stewards did not watch. In 2008, a WA trainer was disqualified for a year for using a caged rabbit to incite his greyhounds. WA Greyhounds Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association president Phil Worthington said the issue would be discussed at an official meeting tonight. "We don't condone it or stand for it at all," Mr Worthington said. "There's nothing like that going on in WA, mate." WA Racing and Gaming Minister Colin Holt said the activities tarnished the entire industry and he promised to strongly support penalties for cruelty to animals, which had a maximum fine under the Animal Welfare Act of $50,000 and five years jail. Shadow minister Mick Murray called on the State Government to mount an immediate investigation into the WA industry and its 250 licensed trainers. Former WA greyhounds administrator Dave Robartson said he was very disturbed by the images but strict policing by the State's stewards meant it was almost impossible to repeat in WA. -

Yep, that's what it sounds like to me I think I will suck out whatever remaining braincells I have by watching MKR instead  -
...white vinegar also works for those times when you need a break. I would keep chew toys everywhere in the house and try chewing substitution first and the vinegar/vicks etc is just a back-up. Mixing tea tree oil with some olive oil is normally smelly enough to work as well too.

Kibble For Dog With Sensitive Tummy
Yonjuro replied to ActuallyAngela's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wonder if Protexin would be better for Danny than Carafate? Another question for my vet LOL. I think they will do different things. The protexin is to populate the gut with healthy bacterial flora, the Carafate is to treat and prevent ulcers and forms a protective coating. I will be interested in hearing what your vets says and if they can be used in conjunction :) -
Have to agree with Maddy's comments. It certainly looks pretty good to me as a quality convenience food, but quite expensive and I would think it would be cheaper to feed real raw. However I can see that it might suit some owner's lifestyles. I haven't seen roo in a freeze dried before so that may be good for some people. It is possibly a good one to use as a back-up to raw feeding for times when you are holidaying or run out of fresh? Thanks for posting the link :)

The Adventures Of Ronin And Tigger - Update 29/05/17
Yonjuro replied to Yonjuro's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks very much Grumpette :) Yep Ronin's coat sure comes in handy :D When he is blowing coat you can see fur-snow in the air when they rumble. It's especially funny when Tigger comes over with a big goofy grin on his face and his tongue is covered in white fur  It still astounds me that they haven't accidentally torn any skin on each other and they have been playing like this 3 times a week for around 7 months now. Ronin has had his mouth right around Tiggers head and also his legs. And Tigger will really pull on Ronins cheeks and neck, so they must really have a lot of control in play-battle :D But it does look very full-on to people that don't know their play style.
