  1. Thanks for that maybe his coat is just fine then. Is the under coat suppose to be thick and almost wooly like? Ill grab that book too.
  2. Do conditioners work? Or are they not worth the time. I am thinking he needs a ton more brushing as his undercoat is very thick and kinda makes his coat stand up if that makes sense. Ill grab a undercoat rake is there somewhere online we can order them I am about 2 and half hours away from any decent shops that would carry that stuff
  3. So george's (thats what we named him some might know his history from the rescue forums) coat is not soft its more stiff and rough. We have no idea what he was eating before but has been on the all good food stuff (the grain free from coles) for about a week before getting here. I am wondering if its a diet thing or a lack of grooming thing. If its diet I am sure it will sort itself out with good food but if its grooming can I please get some good suggestions on how to groom him what products I should be using and type of brush would work well on his thick coat. He seems to have a huge amount of under coat.
  4. Yes Sally has been great! We chatted a long time and discussed the breed and their traits, whether my lifestyle would be fine for him etc wonderful lady I agree he is just such a good boy in the house around the kids, the other dogs, the cats, he knows sit, lay, shake, off the couch. I hope that the owners are ok when I first heard about his situation I was very angry and cursing the owners but then he got here and I just cant imagine they left him willingly. We have decided that we will keep him. We took him to the vet to have him rescanned and check to see there wasnt another chip somewhere and he is not on any registry, his picture has been circulated on facebook so unless an owner comes forward he is here to stay. This is him in his rain coat heading to the vets this morning. Thank you guys for all your help.
  5. This is what I woke up too. Personal space is not his strong point.
  6. I have nothing on him he was abandoned in a backyard for 3 weeks no electricity to the house , yard was a mess the people seemed to just move and never look back. No luck on the attempts to track owner by neighbors. I am not sure anything about him was told he was 8+ yrs but that was just a guess I am sure.
  7. So sorry to hear. I hope the owner of the dogs will be billed for vet work and fined. Having dog aggro dogs is one thing but having dog aggro dogs get out is another. I am glad your babies are recovering.
  8. Yup his photo is being circulated and I am taking him to the vet to double check the chip number and make sure there isnt a second one that has migrated.
  9. Was just coming to ask about this food as I have had some donated to me and was thinking of trying my personal dogs on it and since I dont feed donated food to my personal dogs I wanted to see if it was worth buying. Seems the jury is on both sides of the fence. I agree with this food it is a great food had some donated and used it for a very picky eater foster of mine and he ate it no questions asked and looked great on it. I am hoping to find a good alternative that isnt so very expensive.
  10. He really is beautiful and so well behaved. When he has to go potty at night he takes his paw and knocks on our bed until we wake up. He adores the kids and always checks on everyone if we are in different rooms.
  11. So an update of sorts. Sally cant find the breeder and his chip isnt on any of the registries. She is more than happy to take him in but we have fallen in love with him. I spoke to her about our options and told her a bit about our lifestyle where we live, how we live etc and she said that it does sound like a good place for a Belgian but that I need to decide before he gets attached. I am just not the sort of person that will keep a pet because I want it it has to be comfortable and happy. I will speak with Sally again today but if we do decide to rehome him I will pass him to Sally as I am more comfortable that she will be able to place him more properly to me as I am not up with the breeds needs etc. Here are some pictures of him he needs more grooming we spent an hour and a half on him his first night here and Sally says thats nothing some can take even longer
  12. Have spoken to sally and she is going to check his chip number etc thanks guys
  13. 30 dogs left broken hill pound today to go to rescues! I am just very happy had to share!
  14. Oh yes that is me not a large group or anything and unfortunately cant help as many dogs as others can but we try to do what we can
  15. He really does look stunning! I hope he gets a save. Have to admit I'm tempted AWDRI are taking him :)
  16. Have not contacted them yet sorry he just arrived yesterday and I spent over an hour washing, brushing and drying him then just let him relax will contact them though. I will be sad to see him go if the breeder wants him back he is such a sweet dog.
  17. Sorry if I offended anyone I am just trying to network with good rescues. I help raise funds for rescues and just want to stear clear of a certain sydney based dog brokering group and I noticed that this rescue has some of the dogs in the brokers kennels up for sale. I have helped raise $ for this group then to see the brokers dogs on the site I just want to make sure they are not an off branch of that group as I want nothing to do with them.
  18. I have a purebred Belgian Shepherd coming my way and would like to think that the dogs breeder would like to know one of their dogs is homeless but how can you track the breeder down? The dog was left behind when someone moved.
  19. Samoyed. Male. Microchipped. (Not on system) brought to pound by a landlord apparently left behind by old tenants. I have no information on this guy. Don't know age, temperament, what he is like with other dogs, cats, kids, I don't know. Arrived 4/4.
  20. in New South Wales you do not need a license or permit to own a fox (as a category 5 animal) under the the Non-Indigenous Animals Regulation 2012. As foxes are not currently a declared pest under the Local Land Services Act 2013, there is no legal obligation for land managers to control them. Foxes may be kept in captivity, but it is an offence under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 revised 2009 to release them. It may be possible in some rare cases to obtain commercial permits to keep foxes in both Queensland, South Australia and Victoria. Please contact your state government office of National Parks and wildlife for further information regarding this matter. http://sydneyfoxrescue.com/
