Great Decision Matrix For Choosing A Good Breeder
Queen Maeby replied to RuralPug's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks RP, what a great idea! Here it is on the webpage... http://www.isfoundation.com/news/creatures/avoiding-unethical-breeders-and-what-it-means-rescue I couldn't see it very well :) -
So glad you kept her! Love the zoomies! :)
-
Yeah, that's what I thought, thank you! :)

Yeah, I spend so much money on toys. I wait until Clean Run has a sale and go crazy  And beds! I'm addicted to finding the perfect dog bed... Grover had seven By the way, we both thought the Bono Fido Country Road bed was the best (with a polar fleece blankie for snuggling). http://www.bonofido.com/products/Country_Road_Range/66060

Keeping My Future Pugs Mentally Stimulated
Queen Maeby replied to Queen Maeby's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't mind not going to obedience; it looks like a pretty crappy club anyway and most of the dogs there are working dogs. Grover had problems with dogs like that in the past at dog training... I don't know why, maybe they misinterpreted his Puggie behaviour? They barked at him the whole time. It wasn't much fun. -
Keeping My Future Pugs Mentally Stimulated

I'm not sure about your first question, sorry :) He will just have the puppy vaccinations, not the booster (unless a titre test says he needs it). I'm not giving him unnecessary vaccinations just for obedience. The problem is my local club won't accept him without a Kennel Cough vaccination. The woman couldn't understand why there is no titre test for it And I don't think vets give Kennel Cough vaccinations to puppies, do they? I didn't think they did that unless you asked for it (because the immunity is only temporary). -
I've always bought lamb shanks or chicken wings. I've never heard of this weight-bearing thing. Grover never ate the bone on the lamb shank; I threw out the bones. I don't think a Pug could with their tiny little stumpy teeth

I'm putting $250 away a month until I get my Pug puppy in nine months... And I'm going to continue putting money away for my next Pugs. They have their own account called The Pugs' Account  I don't want to be a breeder; I just want four Pugs (and they will be desexed) :D

My local one won't because you can't titre test for Kennel Cough; only Parvo, Hepatitis and Distemper. -

I've found a private dog trainer who is willing to come to my house with her well-behaved dogs, and she has no problem with titre testing. So I will try that and see how I go :) -
How Quickly Does Permoxin Work?
Queen Maeby replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
How disgusting, I just couldn't handle that. They're related to spiders! -
I'm planning to titre test in place of vaccinating, so I won't be able to take my future Pugs to obedience training... How can I keep them mentally stimulated (I'm planning on having four Pugs and I don't want them to go stir-crazy)? I've heard of crate games and puzzle games, and I've bought a book called Control Unleashed: The Puppy Program. Is this the best forum to find out about these things? If I read through the threads should I find stuff like that? Or should I be looking at specific websites? If so, I would be grateful for any recommendations :) Also, because there will be four of them, is that enough socialisation for them? Or should I organise regular play dates with other well-behaved dogs?

Mooch City Is Miserable: Myrtie Very Sick

Yes, think of the good times :) I try to remember Grover as he was before he showed any signs of having cancer: in perfect health and enjoying life to the fullest. -
Mooch City Is Miserable: Myrtie Very Sick
Queen Maeby replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
To be honest, QM, it was only years ago while I had only a couple of dogs at one time, that I noticed dogs being affected by another's death. Sadly, Myrtie didn't have a mate amongst the others .... I was her mate. She was obsessed with Tamar, but Tamar wouldn't have a bar of her. When he started to settle in, Bunter tried to play with Myrtie, but she wasn't having it. Tamar was her goddess. Isn't it strange the way a dog will focus on another. Tamar started to play with Bunter and, whilst I was overjoyed for Bunter, I was so sad for Myrtie. Myrtie wanted Tamar to play with her. I would say to Tamar when she became a bit annoyed with Myrtie that because she and Myrtie were the youngest, they would be left together and then she'd have to play with Myrtie. Maybe Myrtie was older than we thought. My Pug Grover absolutely adored my old Labrador Star, who raised him and taught him everything, she was like a mum to him, but he hated my new Labrador Poppy so much that I had to rehome her! He was so awful to her! Grover really was a one-person dog. He didn't dislike other dogs or people; he was just indifferent to them. He was a bit of a snob! -

I don't, but I didn't know that you could have it. I don't remember being asked. -

I'm so sorry DD. Take care -
I think the best person to talk to about titre testing would be a holistic vet :) I have seen three holistic vets and they were Dr Ann Nevill in East Bentleigh, Lower Plenty Veterinary Practice (I can't remember their names) and Dr Bruce Syme's clinic in Castlemaine. I had the most contact with Ann Nevill and I'm thinking of emailing her with my questions... She was very thorough and seemed very experienced with natural medicine. Here is a link to her website. http://www.eastwestvet.com.au/ I also did some googling and came up with this list of holistic vets who titre test on the Australian Holistic Veterinarians website. http://www.ahv.com.au/modsresult.php (Sorry, you have to click on "Locate a vet" and then "Vaccination antibody titre test" in the Modalities box.) And I found this titre testing kit, called Vaccicheck, which vets can use in the clinic, without having to send samples away for testing. I'm not sure if it gives you an antibody value or a yes/no answer though. I might email the link to my vet. http://vaccicheck.com.au/index.html

Home-cooked Dog Food & Costs
Queen Maeby replied to Frenchielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
That's a good idea, using the ZiwiPeak as training treats... I was using diced, cooked chicken breast, but air dried ZiwiPeak would be much easier :) -

Don't feel bad DD, that's just your human stuff going on and that's normal. Dogs are just pure love and forgiveness; they don't have stuff like we do. Hugs to you -
Groomer - Canberra Who Uses Dremel Like Tool
Queen Maeby replied to Kobi'sDaisy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was just going to say, you can buy them and do it yourself. That's what I do. I'm sorry, I have only ever used a Dremel; I'm not sure what the others are like.
