  1. oh cuchulain I hope that poor little JRT is ok - moron owner obviously has not bothered doing any sort of constructive training with her, hope she hasn't paid a terrible price for her owners stupidity Took Hugo out this morning, he was a good boy. We did meet an aged labrador that was out the front of its yard, it barked and waddled towards us, then started following us but soon gave up and ambled back home. After a very short tussle with Hugo he focussed on me and we resumed our walk, with only a couple of backward glances. He still has a way to go, but this was much better than he used to be when he would go beserk at the sight of another dog, jumping and lunging towards it, just wanting to play, but nearly pulling my arm out of the socket.
  2. everyone seems to have much more eventful walks than I do But I think I should be grateful Took the grey boys out for a walk this morning, nothing exciting happened as usual Good to hear everyone is still getting out when they can ;)
  3. Hi guys, I didn't do walkies on the weekend as I had my best friend staying here and we had a really lovely girls weekend But I was back out there this morning walking Ari and Dozer. I have decided not to take those two together again, because Dozer always pulls like a train, and Ari likes to be the 'leader' so I have both of them pulling! Ari is fine on her own or with my old greyhound Clyde becaause he likes a very leisurely stroll and doesn't care if she is in front.
  4. Happy Birthday Bosco! I can't believe you are 4 years old already! Here's to many more happy years for you and your mum
  5. RIP poor doggy :D Good on you everyone for getting the walks in I took Ryan for a walk yesterday morning... now, whose turn is it today? It really should be Hugo's turn but he has had a bit of a limp, so I have been trying to get him to rest - silly dog spends all day running around the back yard though! I might take him for a short walk today.
  6. Oh nooooo that sux Are you going to try and get the colour you want? Now Im wondering what colour I will end up with! What colour did you get? I'm going to email and see what they say- I got the red one when i asked for pink camo If you don't want the red one I will buy it off you - just PM me
  7. I am doing up my house and I have done a lot of research into floor coverings - the ones I like best are vinyl slats, they are vinyl but look exactly like timber and are also textured like timber, but are much more durable - no scratching. Only problem is they are very expensive I wanted them in my bedroom but am going to go for carpet (doggies aren't allowed in the bedroom, they have the run of the rest of the house). My room is around 13 square metres and it was going to cost almost $1300 for the vinyl slats, around $900 for vinyl on a roll, can't remember now how much the laminate wooden flooring was now, i think around $700, and I could get carpet from around $500. So a huge difference in prices!
  8. I will be there on the saturday to watch, and staying for the hound club show in the afternoon. 40 Borzoi entered oops maybe i got it worng and it is only 20... still more beautiful borzoi than i have seen in one place before, so excited
  9. cuch you are being sensible, not letting the side down! It doesn't feel like summer here at all, has been raining since last week! I took Clyde and Ari out yesterday, it is Happy's turn today
  10. or what if, as happened to one rescue group a few years ago, they rehomed on the risk that she might or might not be desexed... and she turned out to be in pup, the new owner didn't realise until it was too late to abort, so there was another litter of unwanted puppies
  11. Was out this morning with Dozer, and Ari and Happy got very short walk this afternoon
  12. I was thinking about Hawkesbury when I started this thread, the pound staff and volunteers really do a good job and there are a few greyhound rescuers who take greys from HP, so they do get a good chance at rescue from there, and the conditions are fairly good. I really do hope the new legislation does some good, but it probably depends greatly on how well it is actually policed.
  13. 'Lack of ability' - this is the bit that bothers me, they are still going to be bred willy-nilly and slaughtered when not of any further use it is good that they can be surrendered as pets - but how many owners can be bothered rehoming when it is much easier just to send them off to be pts
  14. This was posted in the Hawkesbury pound thread: Due to new legislation all owners/trainers will now be forced to advise & account for every dog in care, living on properties or leaving care including surrenders or those pts. Pts must now be administered by a Vet other than a pound. Can anyone confirm if this is true? Can anyone tell me where to find the relevant legislation? I am hoping that this would be beneficial in the long run, BUT if greyhounds have to be taken to a vet for pts and are not surrendered to the pound, then they lose the chance (slim though it may be) of being picked up by a rescue group Is this type of legislation already in place in other states? If so, has it improved things for greys or not?
  15. well Matilda has been adopted  You would think that would mean one less dog to walk, but now I need to start walking Happy as he is well and truly past his quarantine period BUT he should be going to his new home in WA in a few weeks time.
  16. That sounds like great fun cuchulain I was very lazy yesterday and didn't go out for a walk before work I am just getting ready to take my foster girl Matilda to canberra to meet a family who is interested in adopting her, will try to get in a quick walk for her before I put her in the car
  17. My vet has said the same thing. I am still confused about the triennial vaccine though, as some information seems to suggest that it is just 3x the dose of the annual one - and I can't see the point of tripling the dose???? I am also concerned about the studies starting to suggest that over-vaccination is linked to auto-immune diseases. But I live in a high risk area for parvo, and I also foster rescue dogs, so I don't want to risk my dogs health. I am really torn as to what is the best thing for my dogs. My oldest dog is nearly 8 years old, and has had annual vaccinations for the last 5 years he has been with me, except for his last one which I stretched out to 18 months (and he was a racing greyhound before he came to me so would have been vaccinated annually before that). My dogs are all due again, I think I am happy to strecth it out to 18 months again, but am worried about leaving it any longer than that. Then again, I don't want my dogs to be at risk of auto-immune diseases if the vaccinations really aren't necessary *sigh* Stormie, what area of Sydney is the practice you work at? I visit Sydney semi-regularly to see family, maybe I could organise a visit to your clinic
  18. The guys from DogTech in Canberra are good, I have been to some lectures that they have done for one of the local rescue groups, ARF. They also used to provide a lot of help to ARF foster carers for any problems they had with foster dogs Not sure if they are still involved with ARF now, but I think that Canberra Pooch rescue still consults them.
  19. he he he looks like it might just be you and me in here now Cas :D Even though it is my birthday today AND raining, I still went out for a walk (was very tempted to stay in bed!!), took little Ari whippet and old Clydey boy for a walk. At least I start work a bit later today so not such a big rush this morning :D
  20. Glad they got out for a short walk cas It was Hugo's turn this morning. He is really doing much better on the lead, still pulls a little but he is a lot more settled when we see other dogs, doesn't go totally ballistic thankfully! I may have one less dog to walk after the weekend, my foster girl Matilda has a family that are very interested in her
  21. I was planning on coming along but now have a meet and greet for one of my foster dogs, so won't be able to make it
  22. welcome slk I was out this morning with Ryan, and much to my daughter's disgust made her come too, she walked Dozer, so we are back into it again
