  5. Ooh, if you do would you be willing to post a pic at all? I'd definitely prefer to buy locally than have to order from OS. a PM is fine I'm going to have a crack at it this week and I think I shall make a coat that includes one. Should be fun Let me know how they go, I would possibly be interested in 2 x greyhound size ones and 1 x whippet size You might score a free Greyhound prototype you can road test them for me It would be our pleasure

  12. Thanks kendall for sharing about the lady with the deaf ACD who did obedience. As Crystal is a young working breed, i know she will need plenty of mental stimulation. She was surrendered to he pound for barking, however I think she was left hoem alone all day behind clour-bond fencing - so the barking would have been pretty normal behaviour in that situation I reckon! Since she has been ere with my dogs she has only barked a lot on one occasion - when I put her in a run away from the other dogs. So I think in a home with another dog for company and appropriate exercise and mental stimulation she should be fine. She is very friendly with people, and is fine with other dogs once she gets to know them, just needs careful introductions as she was very scared of the other dogs when she first got here and air-snapped at them when ever they got too close. But after 4 days she is now quite happy running with the pack It is good because I can let her outside then when I want to bring her in I just call the other dogs and she comes too ;)
  13. KKDD, slightly OT, but were they hard to rehome? What sort of requirements were you looking for in potential adopters? Thanks everyone for the info, I had not thought of using an e-collar Erny Personally I would not be too upset at having a dog that could be not let off-lead unless in an enclosed area, I actually have two of them already - greyhounds. So I am wondering if I should try training a recall or not worry. I think I will keep working on sit, not jumping up, and getting her to focus on me and check-in regularly (which she pretty much does anyway, she is my little shadow), then working on stay/wait.
  14. Sending healing vibes for Penny, hope she is feeling better soon I hate it when the dogs fight, I think it upsets me more than them. Although I understand about the two bitches thing, and I normally have mostly boys here without many problems other than the occasional scuffle, two of my own dogs (as opposed to fosters) do not get on, and they are two males. It is actually only one of them that causes the problems, so after a few serious incidents, they are kept completely seperated all the time. Yes it is a pain, but I was worried that he might eventually inflict some very serious injuries if not kill my other dog ;)
  15. Hi, if there has been a dog in the yard who has had parvo, your yard will not be safe for an unvaccinated puppy for a long time. I have heard many different opinions on how long, but I believe the consensus is around 12 months. As you do not know whether your yard is safe or not, I would not be bringing an unvaccinated puppy home. If there is parvo in your soil there is even a risk that just by walking in the yard then inside you could be carrying the virus into the house on your shoes. I was in a similar situation when I wanted to get a pup, however I KNEW there had been parvo in my yard as I had had two little rescue pups who died of it. I got my own puppy about 9 months later, however I did not bring her home from the breeders until she had had ALL her puppy shots and then we waited two weeks after the last one to make sure it had kicked in. So I did not bring her home until she was around 14 weeks old. When I explained the situation the breeder was happy to hold on to her for me. You could ask your breeder to do this. If you are wanting to get a rescue dog, you could also ask the rescue group if they could hold your puppy long enough to ensure that the vaccination is effective.
  16. I have a new little foster girl, an ACD called Crystal who came from Hawkesbury Pound. She is 12 months old and completely deaf. I have started trying to teach her a hand signal for sit. I also found this site http://www.deafdogs.org/training/signs.php but would like to know how others train and live with a deaf dog. How would you go about teaching a recall? Is it possible? Would it be possible to do dog sports? Please share your experiences
  17. you go Jake-k9 I am back to walking again after quite a few days off. the tooth is getting better at last thank goodness
  18. A greyhound could be just the ticket. They do not need a lot of exercise, are very clean dogs that need absolutely mininal grooming (ok, so I don't brush mine and they only get bathed 1-2 times a year), they don't have any doggy odour, are usually very easy to walk on lead... There are very active, wonderful greyhound rescues in Vic, and they take great care to match the dog with the person's lifestyle. Contact anniek and Gapvic here on DOL for starters ETA I have a whippet too, she is also a really lovely companion dog, quite a bit more energetic then the greyhounds, however she is only 1 and my greyhounds are 4 and 8 years old.
  19. I just don't know what to say. What devastating news. Praying for a full recovery for Jed, and much sorrow at the passing of her beloved dogs, may they rest in peace.
  20. Hmmmm.... thinking about doing a run up to Sydney, three of mine need vaccinating and I would rather titre test.... would you do any discount for 3 at once? I would get the consult as well. PM me details please
