  1. One for the vet methinks Blood blisters are NOT normal.
  2. Unless he is really irritating her, I'd leave them to it. When I groom any of my littlies, they go crazy, do the zoomies, try to impress each other, show us "how beautiful" they are - the ones who haven't yet had their grooming are jealous and can get a bit hyper trying to get to the freshly groomed dog - it's all a bit of fun (until someone gets hurt ) So maybe it's a little dog thing??
  3. how odd, my brothers first dog was a chocolate and tan chi. he died aged 16 with no cancers whatever and he was always outside as he just couldnt resist marking in the house. so mum gave him the boot, no more housedog for him And your brothers' dog was a *Chihuahua* - not a Tibetan Terrier :D Full stop, a Chihuahua could not survive in Tibet so surely it's understandable that a Chocolate coloured TT, with chocolate pigment and lighter eyes (which Choc TTs always have) living in the highest altitude in the world with the highest UV exposure - would die earlier due to cancer and also go blind younger and fall off the side of a cliff because of the lighter eyes. Tibetan Terriers are considered an ancient breed so I'm pretty sure that over 2000 years, the Tibetans understood that a pup this colour was most definitely "unlucky"! :D
  4. I flew a 9 wk old last Monday and didn't get asked anything.
  5. Just got to say that in the "textbook" bitches I've had, the blood definitely turns to straw-coloured or nearly clear when the girls are ready for mating. In ALL the bitches I've mated, the blood is nearly non-existent when it comes to mating time but may reappear after the mating - pregnant or not. ETA: As others have said - progesterone testing is the most accurate way of checking when the "window" of ovulation is perfect but then, I've had good stud dogs predict that equally as accurately!
  6. And pretty much the same, this gamut of colours is what is called "yellow" in Labs
  7. Personally, I would be a complete cow and remove the chicken necks!! Seriously, it does sound like she's being picky and trying to "punish" you for leaving her Dogs *can* survive on chicken necks alone for quite some time! Go back to feeding her what you want and don't digress - she might get skinny but don't give in at this stage! If she is coming into season or has a medical problem, you are looking at a different kettle of fish
  8. B1 - oops sorry, I read the wrong "B" You should be able to get a human one as a general "b" vitamin which will be ok for your dog.
  9. Sorry tohear your older girl had pyometra - that's a terrible shame and if she was not for breeding - an avoidable complication which you can deal with now in your new girl.
  10. Cool! That's not too bad at all!! If he went over her and has said she is sound, then she is! - bottom line, so I hope you are pleased with that. Do take his advice or else you can look at getting tablets for the same ie. Vit B12 for humans.
  11. As a six year old I woke up to NO EASTER EGGS!! Our Newfoundland had eaten ALL of them and she was crapping out tinsel for weeks! :nahnah:
  12. LOVE that Pyr!! :nahnah: Just my cup of tea except for the herding part!
  13. :nahnah: (Bit short for the standard donchathink?! )
  14. Nah - only recognised by Russia but the Rare Breeds Club of America may have some luck in getting them introduced.
  15. Tee Hee! I don't like our chances Lowenhart!
  16. Ditto Rysup! Chocolate TTs are gorgeous but excluded because the Tibetans found that choc-born pups died young so it was essentially "bad luck" to have a chocolate and exceptionally good luck to have a white Tibetan Terrier 'cos they generally have great black pigment which makes them less susceptible to skin cancer. Chocolates died young because they had lighter than usual pigment and got skin cancer - the Tibetans didn't know it of course but their assumptions were pretty smack on with genetics - simple really! Chocolate don't die now as we know about sunscreen!
  17. Damchi - WOW! A Tibetan Spaniel the size of a Tibetan Terrier!!!
  18. Colours in Breed Standards and disqualifications, usually have a reason be it an historical reason or a genetic reason. Some standards *are* out of date when it comes to the crossover - for example, the vast majority of Labrador breeders are not going to euthanase a pup because it's a colour throwback - it's not PC now - but in years gone by - not forgetting that Labradors are quite a "new" breed in the general scheme of things - the off-coloured pups would have been culled as utterly useless to a breeding programme and Labs were working dogs. From all accounts, this nearly happened with chocolates in the breed! These days wrong coloured dogs are excluded from the show ring - big deal - they can still be pets and it's total sensationalism to say that a Lab breeder these days is going to bucket a pup which is the wrong colour. Just an example where the difference in colour is not going to affect the health of the dog long-term in this day and age. However, there are breeds where a particular colour can be fatal or at least debilitating to a dog in future - so why is this thread getting out of hand? All of a sudden in this thread, Breeders are all being made out to be culling wrong-coloured pups - it USED to happen frequently but these days, the vast majority of wrong-coloured pups are simply excluded from the showring, undesirable to breed from and are petted out to new owners like some mentioned here already, who love their dogs regardless! So can we please get back on topic and look at all the pretty pictures of weird coloured dogs!!
  19. Podengos - yes SB - the Podengo down there is from my vet who imported the first one this year - I saw the pups at 5 weeks (and again recently) - tres cute!
  20. It's tough in Australia as the ANKC judging explicitly says the judges here *must* follow the colours as spelt out in the breed standard - this has created a whole heap of problems for Havanese which come in every colour of the rainbow!! Look at the "Havanese ABCs" website and there are pages dedicated to the colours of the breed! Overseas including Europe, the judges don't bat an eyelid at the colours
  21. I want these as soon as they are registered in the FCI Tsvetnaya Bolonka
  22. Yes, there are now Portuguese Podengos in Australia - just down the road from me Their first show is in January
