  1. Hey Wayrod. I read this the same way as you, it seems. IE Anything that is under the control of the Management Committee can't be raised as an item at an AGM. But does that also mean that Members won't be able to raise the matter of changing that rule because of the fact that the rule relates to the control of the Management Committee? Wow!! It kind of reminds me of the rule the Victorian Labor Government brought in that enables them to regulate (as opposed to legislate) without having to pass through parliament and without having to follow the usual rules (eg observation of Natural Justice and Procedural Fairness) and no one can object to it - or they can, but it doesn't have to make any difference if the Government decide they don't want it to.
  2. Good explanation - thank you. Curiosity satisfied now .
  3. I couldn't do it but agree that if the bunnies are caught and killed as cleanly as possible, then it is a good thing as they cause our land so much devastation. Dumb question (not being a ferret person) .... how do you stop your ferrets running away?
  4. Pet excrement barely blips on the radar by comparison to the various forms of pollution caused by humans. If humans concentrated and cared more about cleaning up their own act in all the ways they create pollution instead of trying to create hype and blame on something else we'd be better off.
  5. Thanks Mrsgrumblebum. I purchased a 2.something bag of the Canidae ALS from Robbo's (I was passing by) and it was around $30. So the price you've mentioned sounds really good. I only got it today and it's been a bit of a busy and almost hellish day, so I haven't gotten around to testing it out on my boy as yet. If it is a winner (ie if he seems to go for it readily) I'll take a visit to the store you mention. I'm in Berwick and not always passing through Cranbourne, but for the price it sounds as though it would be worth the trip.
  6. I'd say the one who was laying on the dirt as you were sweeping up potentially enjoyed the attention for doing so and the other one who avoided your eye contact was more sensitive to your body language that would have showed when you first espied the mess. The mess was of course made by the major pot plant tornado that affects only plants in pots and of course the occasional dog trampoline bed.
  7. That is actually a really good example of the same concept Is it though, considering there are values, historically speaking, that those symbols/flags give meaning to the arrowhead figures? In the first example, there is nothing to ascribe value to either of the triangles or the ball.
  8. Thanks for the explanation, Rotts4ever. I hope you're right that that's all there is to it and I do hope it will be completely taken off the table after the discussion. Cheers Erny PS And I do hope the ANKC can have something positive to say about how they are going to change their poorly founded view of Schutzhund training and stop seeing it as attack training and open their eyes to see it for the disciplined and finely tuned training regime that it is comprised of.
  9. Not that I am aware of yet, no reply has been posted on our website.... I'm thinking that replies to letters will probably be sent after discussions at the meeting. I sent a letter from me and also we sent a club letter through Dogs NSW and we received reply from DNSW confirming receipt and that the letters had been sent to ANKC to be tabled at the meeting Cheers Which indicates that it being "an administrative error" and a non-event, is not actually the case. Else wise, why would it be on the agenda for discussion? Why can't they respond with a "no we can't confirm the contents of that conversation and no it is not off the agenda as a possibility" or something along those lines?
  10. One thing I'm not keen on about the illusion collar is the potential for it to be used by people who haven't developed the skill and sensitivity of correction delivery. Personally, I'd prefer to see a novice handler build their skills with the correction collar lower down on the dog's neck. Not necessarily great for the dog's training as the correction can be less effective, but I think a bit safer for the dog, physically speaking. For the same reason, I don't encourage my early day clients to move their correction collars high up on the dog's neck even in the absence of an illusion collar. ETA: Just realised Bedazzledx2 shares the same feeling as I do, although I do use check chains where necessary and have no qualms in doing so.
  11. Oh well done, Suz !!! Congrats on your nomination. Must find out more about your "Fresh 4 Paws" product/s.
  12. LOL .... the whispers through the DOL threads always manage to find their way . Thanks for the info Sag. I purchased the Canidae yesterday (bought the Salmon - mainly for the "one protein source" .... although I still do feed cooked chicken), but he wouldn't touch it (gave it a VERY thorough sniffing and sifting with his nose, but said "nup". I played marbles with 3 kibble pieces and this interested him enough into eating them, but only after he spat them out a couple of times. I thought this might give him the taste for them. But no, he still wasn't interested enough to go back to the bowl. I thought perhaps it was that he just wasn't hungry enough for them. So I experimented by offering a bowl of the Royal Canin Sensible. He ate a reasonable amount of those without trouble. Fortunately, Canidae give a money back guarantee and I can return them. I'll give them another go before I do though, just to see. If that doesn't work I thought I'd try the "All Life Stages" Canidae. This will at least hint at whether it was the flavour that put him off, or not. He went off EP Salmon way way back when - so perhaps there's a lasting memory of stomach discomfort attached to the fishy flavoured dog food. Or maybe he just knows better than I do about what he can eat and cope with . Thanks Sags. I spoke with a Canidae Rep and also a Nutro Rep yesterday. I'm hoping the Nutro (which I will try if the Canidae doesn't work) has a money back guarantee as well. It's way expensive enough without your dog ending up not eating it or it not suiting. Nutro are sending out a brochure to me.
  13. Ahh, yes. I guess there's too much trainer in me to see the 'other side' of these things, lol. But then, if a dog doesn't really need a check, aren't there other nicer looking glitz collars around?
  14. It would hinder the timing of the correction and release. I wouldn't buy it nor use it. And like Dyzney, I only use the Herm Sprenger chains - I'd expect Mr Sprenger would shudder to think the operation of his chains are being 'altered' in such a way, even if they could be. Heidi - you say you "found" that correction chain. Are you telling us that these are being sold from somewhere?
  15. I hope they find the cause quickly, Dianed. I presume it is not a paralysis tick ?
  16. I'm glad others are thinking like me. I felt a bit like the fun police. Sorry, Midniara. That's not to say someone else who likes it are wrong so I'm not having a go Midniara . It's just not my cup of tea.
  17. That was very clever. And I'm not saying it was cruel. But there was something about the whole thing I didn't like. Maybe because it was so far removed from things "doggy".
  18. If you contact Dr. Charles Kuntz at South Paws 03 9553 1775 they should be able to tell you where you can get them. I remember when I took my boy to see him (when he was at Southern Animal Referral Centre, who you could also contact 03 9532 5261) I met a girl whose dog was having paralysis issues and she'd just purchased one. I don't think it was the same as that linked by Sir WJ.
  19. Dominance Nup, don't like that word. Leadership Nup, don't like that word any more either. Life Coach ??????????????????????????? Is this the new catch phrase perhaps? (Tongue in cheek)
  20. That's not our fault. It is a learnt belief system that has been reinforced time after time. And at the risk of repeating to ad nauseum, controlling dog training and dog trainers is on the RSPCA's priority wish list.
  21. Well, I'd need to see the program and know more details before I'd be able to have any idea whether spending any money on this would be worth the while. The fact that they have found the need to ask these questions and then (I presume) spend time and money on statistically proving the answers is a bit of a concern, IMO. But perhaps when I do understand more of the point of the seminar, I might be convinced to loosen up a little and accept the seminar for what it could be - ie just an information and discussion opportunity. I'd definitely need to find out more as based on what's been written, I can't see the justification of spending $160 and I admit that like Shortstep, I'm somewhat loath to part with any money to the RSPCA. This question puzzles me though :
  22. I've been working on improving my boy's health issues which began to appear when he was about 7mo. His symptoms appeared as allergies (not to say they were) and have been varied. Hives; interdigital cysts; and more. At one stage he had what I thought to be nasodigital hyperkeratosis. I don't know whether what I did made the difference or whether in the usual trend of his symptoms it was bound to go away anyway, but I gave his feet a soaking in Calendula Tea (yep, me and Calendula Tea .... I almost cringe now when I refer to it I've recommended it so much and for so many things ). I did this a good number of times - no particular intervals, just whenever and as often as I could. *touch wood* - he doesn't seem to show that problem anymore.
  23. Hi Aidan Remember that it is an RSPCA Science Seminar. Paul is only chairing it. If the RSPCA was only trying to target the average pet owner as a way of getting them to get out and be active with their dogs, I'm fairly certain they wouldn't be heading this under the name of "science". This could be a good seminar with only good intent (and not with any other RSPCA control favoured agenda behind it). But if I were going (wish I could) I'd be going on alert to the potential for an underlying agenda. If that "alert" proves unnecessary, then well and good. Remember that RSPCA has a history that has lead to the cynicism it receives.
