  1. To be honest, if I did it all over again, I'd only import one at a time. It's not fair on either new dog having to divide up training times so much. When the new dog is settled & trained, then I'd look at adding another, it's much easier to keep up the maintenance training while teaching the newer addition. 2 at the same time, you are ripping either dog off of valuable bonding & training time. Just my opinion from personal experience. eta: and as they have been imported, quarantined together, their bond is VERY strong. They could not be trained together with different handlers as they mucked up so much, and trying to alternate they'd still distract each other LOL, it was a nightmare! Taking them separately was the only way to go, but that meant each was missing out on a training session as I could only take one at a time They are now 17 months old & still rat bags when shown together! Dwilds, I'd put 12 months in between them personally. Gives you time to train, bond, get used the showing scene, title the 1st one, and when the second one comes along you'll be an old hand
  2. I don't see anything wrong with it :p They were bred for herding, cart, droving & guard. Even White Swiss Shepherd's are 'Cart Champions' in South Africa. It probably looks odd as It's not a popular sport or activity in Australia.
  3. oh gawd, we had major disaster's at Castle Hill a few weeks back. OH was going around with his GSD for the Ch dog run off, Riot crossed in front of him & ducked out of the ring & a there was a pole between him & the dog so he lost the lead & Riot ran up to our girl Poppy being held by someone else. Everyone has a laugh, grab the dog & he finishes the class. Then both of us are in the ring for the BOB run-off & he does it AGAIN!! It doesn't end there, then we are running around for the RUBOB run-off, and a white streaker comes flying across the ring, THOR! He'd escaped his crate & came galloping, helicopter tailed, into the ring & jumping all over me as if to say Wooohooooo!! Apologised profusely to the judge, with the whole working dog group in stitches over our carnival of capers, hand Thor to a friend only to have him slip his collar & come running back in excitedly AGAIN!!! Told the judge it was our tactic to ensure he remembered us .... we won Junior in Show!! ;)
  4. I'll second the frozen bottle. Freeze a 2L bottle full of water & throw it in a pillow case & put in the whelping box. I find cordial or juice bottles better as they are not round & wont roll around. The pups will move to the bottle if hot & move away if cool so you wont have to worry about them getting chilly. Pups get very distressed if hot, I know mine did, but as soon as they felt the bottle they'd be off to sleep
  5. I know this might sound weird, but I find pups that can't be revived no matter what you do have a different smell. It's not a bad smell, just different. I do have a sensitive sense of smell though I still give them a 'go' reviving them, but don't work as long on them anymore if they have 'that' smell. If they don't have 'that' smell I always manage to bring them around!
  6. I could be way off, but are you referring to the types that just breed & never step a foot into the show ring? Personally, I think it's still a handy tool being compared against your peers.
  7. I think my definition would be improving on what I have, and when I reach the standard that I feel epitomises the breed, work to maintain & preserve that standard throughout the generations .. and with time, as more breed specific health testing becomes available, embracing it as a valuable tool to better the breed health wise as well. I think 'bettering the breed" goes a lot deeper than just the written standard.
  8. $200 per dog at my vet, digital x-rays.
  9. How could taking a dog to a show cause it's entire litter to be born deaf? I have no issue with people who 'responsibly' show a bitch in whelp, but I can see that this rule was put in place due to the irresponsible people. I have personally seen & been disgusted by someone rocking up to a show & showing a heavily in whelp bitch whose boobs were engorged & hanging. And it was a hot day.
  10. I had one of my previous puppy owners lose their 4 year old girl. As the ANKC is not accepting aussie whites I am no longer breeding (have my White Swiss now ) But my parents have so kindly offered them a puppy for free from their last ever litter which is out of the litter sister of the girl the owners lost. On the day they called me to say they lost their girl, after speaking to my parents, I hesitantly called them, and let them know of the offer, they were absolutely over-joyed & it really helped them with their grief. I did tell them to have a good think & talk before they said yes as I didn't want them making a rash & emotional decision. I understand all people are different, but they were very happy to be contacted even though it was the same day they lost their dog.
  11. Depends, if you are on the back wall yes, front section no. You won't know until the day which side you are on. Hmmm, well, GSD's4Ever typed out something from the Show Guide that was in the paper & it said that the WSSD will be appearing for the 1st time at Melb Royal, so I guess they are going to put the 'new attraction' in the front row!
  12. This is my first Melbourne Royal, they have put us in block B, what's that location like? Am I going to get a moment's rest?
  13. I've never understood the whole 2 different prices thing, and I'm pretty certain at this stage, unless someone convinces me otherwise, that I will sell all future WSSD puppies at the same price (unless it's under a partnership agreement or something.) I figure that regardless of pet or show, the same amount of thought & care is put into each puppy, they all cost the same to raise, feed, worm, vacc, and only a matter of a few dollars difference between main & limited rego.
  14. You need the bloodtests done within 30 days of export, and an AQIS accredited vet to complete the Certificate A within 4 days of export. Angelsun, perhaps see if the breeder can speak to Scandipet for advice on what to do. We elected to use Jetpets as an agent, made the whole thing tonnes easier, they communicated with Scandipet, who then gave direction to the breeder. Jetpets also applied for our permits & made the quarantine reservation.
  15. I have my Saturday ones, and my BF (who's mum did his entries) has received both Sat & Sun. Hopefully my Sunday ones are on their way!
  16. Yes, seems a few companies have jumped on the DNA band wagon. They are popping up everywhere. Heard of one that someone has their dog profiled with, and it was the first time I'd ever heard of them. Worries me, how are we supposed to know which ones are good & which ones are dodgy. Sway, what a waste of money if the test was inconclusive! Did they give an explanation as to why they couldn't tell?
  17. :D Same show ;) They definately are great ambassadors, and we have our breeder to thank for that, I'm so happy that we can make her proud. She's been very excited to hear her babies cracking some 1st's for the breed in Australia. Someone took photos, just waiting on them :D Congratulations Ange !!!!!! Great results and I hope there are many more of them. Cheers Chrissy and the Snofyre crew Woohoo Hi Chrissy, thanks heaps! I hope so too, but if we don't win another, atleast we were still the first ;)
  18. Very excited to brag that our little girl finally cracked a class in group and a CLASS IN SHOW Handled by my partner down in Milton, so he was rapt, as was Arawyn, Fanuilos & me too of course! We were also stoked to see another WSS bitch entered on the day, but unfortunately her owner missed the call for her class Which was a shame, would have been nice to see another in the ring! Vallgardens Glitzy Glamour (impSWD), is now the first female of the breed to win a class in show Down Under! :D Her brother, also our boy, Vallgardens Ghostly Gladiator (impSWD) was the first class in show winner for the breed in Australia. And to top the day off, he also took out Runner Up in Show with his GSD, Ch Allendell Incite a Riot ;) So they had a great day down there, go the 'Shepherds'! The whitey & the black N gold! edit because I forget to add Arawyn & fanuilos Ooops, sorry guys!
  19. Friday BIS was a GSD - don't know any more. That was my OH's boy, Aust Ch Allendel Incite A Riot... he was absolutely rapt! Wish I was there, but after hearing about the weather & seeing photos, I was kind of glad I stayed in Sydney
  20. What's going to be the outcome of this?
  21. From my vivid imagination........and knowing how full of knowledge some joe public are.... * oh look...Samoyeds now come in SHORT COAT !! * Yes...they are the albino shepherds ! * Yep, shepherds turn white when they live in the alps ! And no matter HOW BIG your breed banner is........you will still have people insisting it's their version !!! fifi Gee, looking forward to the Royal now hahahah.. I'm also expecting 'oh look it's a white husky' A kid asked his mum in Hillsborough the other week, why the 'Baby Maremma' was in a different class. Was funny seeing the Maremma though, he was looking as my pup excitedly like he was one of their own! Must have been happy to see another big white dog down at the Working ring Hahahaha, too funny!!!
  22. I have 2, almost 6 month old White Swiss Shepherds, I'm at Leppington, would be happy to meet up for playtime too! Not as big as your dogs, but they can hold their own eta: I love going to Cafe Bones at Leichardt, maybe we could have playdate there!
  23. this reminds me of Syd Royal last year, Cute, innocent little girl... she asked me for $2 so she could buy a clacker from the Marinara Stand (Weimaraner)
  24. Oh gee, sounds like I'm in for funny times! This year will be the 1st time a White Swiss Shepherd Dog has been exhibited at Sydney Royal, wonder what comments we'll get
  25. I like them too. Ran out so using Metho instead. Working a treat!
