  1. With the older females...we got 6 in a row Only one, a large rottie cross, was hours away from not making it. She was bloated, miserable, ill and just generally tired. Preferring to lie down rather than walk or stand. There's a whole story to that poor girl I believe the antibiotics the pound put her on for her eye somewhat held her over and in the end she recovered and was adopted by her carer. The others, and anyone since then, were at different stages and did fine afterwards. At the beginning you can't really tell without an ultrasound or until they open them up and the uterus is (from what I can gather) sort of blobby and filled with fluid.
  2. T I know you want to help but HC would be a nitwit to start naming this rescue at this stage. It's as silly as starting a thread when it's obvious the rescue hasn't even been contacted. Why? Why do we have a thread? Is it because you already don't like this group/individual involved and people will ask you via PM?
  3. Has anyone informed the rescuer? It's good manners. I'd wait until you find out if a vet deemed the dog as already desexed before you jump up and down. And call the rescue immediately and get a yes or no on paying the vetwork. It could be a dodgey move or it could be an innocent mistake. And to answer your questions: No, there is nowhere you can report this to except possibly the pound if they are one of the ones now wanting desex certificates. And pet rescue if the dog was listed there. No the rescue has no legal right to take the dog and pups away from the owner. None. Yes technically he could claim expenses but if the rescue refuses it would have to go to Small Claims which is why you should try to sort it out now, in a reasonable fashion and mutually agree to terms beforehand.
  4. The images of a turkish dog who had been raped and tortured to death will stay with me forever. And the perpetrator was known but there was no law to protect the dog. We can argue the finer points of pet ownership and welfare but this country is starting from scratch. Their animals need protecting with basic rights like those in countries with RSPCA et al. The Lets Adopt Global site is having trouble loading, you can find them on FB. I'm not sure I know of a larger Turkish rescue group and their dogs are adopted internationally, but I warn you of graphic content.
  5. The OTT 'Let's Adopt Global' rescue/advocacy movement began in Turkey, and they shone a light on some of the gruesome animal abuse and the vile conditions in shelters. I'm pleased the govt is at least recognising there is a problem. Without reading the legislation in detail I'm sure it contains a few pointless items but they had to do something.
  6. Who is she anyway? I plan on kidnapping her yorkies. The poster, I find it really tacky. And I've never been a fan of rescue angels saviour type stuff either so add PETA to that and, no not a fan.
  7. Didn't work for us (Pound List) nor did making 'postcard' type things with the notes included. On top of that, you get called a dog killer by all the crazies if you try to have some control over how much you're enabling these pound dogs being flogged on FB with absolute lies as temperament notes. -eta: actually, if your pound isn't noticed by PR yet, you might have a chance :) the postcards were easy to share and not that hard to make. It's worth a try.
  8. Yes! And I'm running into a lot of greys, mostly unmuzzled though.
  9. I shouldn't have watched the video. There's no excuse for what they did.
  10. I'm having to look at these atm. For a small dog, 4kg....the collar style looks a bit rigid? Has anyone had success with the cloud collars? like this Although it definitely looks more clunky.
  11. Yep, I'm sure they helped those afghan x pharaoh (I think) pups? Very pretty, quite specific needs. It's worth asking.
  12. I think they've been taken by all-breed rescues before if they've had a savvy carer. DogsNSW has a list of breed club rescue contacts but I can't see Pharaoh listed.
  13. Being asked if I want or have a loyalty/rewards card at every single place is sooo much more annoying  But those rude pushy ones who corner me in the shopping centre stress me badly. They have this method like rounding up sheep. I hate it.
  14. I remember he actually visited and interviewed a sydney rescue in a big smiley supportive clip for whatever show he was on at the time so being paid to do stuff is just part of marketing. Pity he has no committed beliefs that aren't for sale because people do actually listen to him.
  15. Then please do everyone a favour and don't ask again if you're just going to be dismissive of the response. It's uncalled for and just plain petty. Oh get over yourself. Petty? You responded and I acknowledged in all honesty. The thread is going off topic and I honestly can't be bothered arguing with you and whoever else will pop in to defend you.
  16. Agree and dodgy is the word. I'd be contacting the Tenancy Tribunal, something's not right here. yep, especially as they would have known the whole time that a) you have inside dogs and b) they weren't going to allow you to keep them as such. Sounds like they deliberately didn't tell you until it was too late. Poor form.
  17. re new breeds: In my inexpert opinion that sounds like what the MDBA foundation registry does. Could be wrong.
  18. I don't really understand this. Judging foster carers and bemoaning them for saving lives is in the eye of the beholder? Come on. There's a difference between having an opinion and using that opinion to pretty much bully people because they're not someone's idea of "ethical." I'm not saying that is happening right here in this thread but that absolutely happens in the 'rescue world.' A lot. No. Not so long ago I would have. I've moved beyond that though and understand that the only one responsible for the death of that mother dog is the pound that kills her. People don't have to rescue at all. I don't much care what their reasons for rescuing are - only that they are rescuing and hopefully doing it well. Other than that, it's none of my business. That's the response I expected. Sorry Loreley, off topic.
  19. ^^ good advice. Even the basic inhouse pre-op bloods could be done before you decide on a full blood panel. Did your vet offer? Maybe he didn't explain the benefits. Sadly sometimes blood results aren't great but it's better to know as early as possible.
  20. Darren I've known you to be just as vehemently 'judgemental'. Adoption fees, the use of breed names, fundraising and marketing etc etc. You have the right to an opinion just like everybody else. But literally everyone thinks they are ethical anyway so yes, you'll get judgement everywhere. It's in the eye of the beholder apparently. Not everyone thinks that old dogs are worth the trouble but in my opinion they are. That's rescue. Hypothetically (but not really because it actually happened). Just on the topic of litters. Cat vs dog. What would you suggest to the rescuer who left behind a rather plain bullbreed/bullarab type female and took her babies, they used the same reasons carer/room/facilities/rehomeable. Mum was pts, pound was packed. Would you judge them? I'm struggling to understand the difference when there's hundreds of orphan kittens needing rescue anyway so that carer's spot could be easily filled and just as many lives saved.
  21. Cat rescue is so hard. But seeing the 'pretty' kittens picked out of litters leaving mum and the plain ones left behind does my head in. If dog rescuers did that they'd be hung, the excuse of numbers and only taking the ones seen as easily rehomeable is common justification. Sorry if I'm offending anyone (cat rescue is bloody hard) but leaving half a family to die doesn't sit right with me. edit-spelling
  22. Let me know what you find out :) I can't see which ones on FB have put the call out but I'm sure some of the far-away rural pounds will need something too.
