  1. SweePee the crestie won that guy a prize and in the very least he should have it taken off him. Is it just DOL that sees the cruelty or are other people upset by this? All I can find on the internet is a bunch of articles congratulating the pr**ck. vet article re untreated conditions why are people getting awards for this? My link
  2. Surprise. $130,000 +++ later and the go-fund-me page is gone.
  3. Warning....Do NOT look at this year's winner
  4. poor little natives Yes I had to read the article twice too. What a tragedy.
  5. No it was sudden lethargy and funny breathing, something was off. And because of that, I had taken him straight in to the vet never expecting heart problems. It was like he was his funny little old self one minute and we lost him two weeks later after everything available failed to work. I couldn't believe it. Life was good and he was happy, it wasn't fair.
  6. Poor Myrtie. xxxx I lost an old boy to sudden failure, he had some kind of acquired heart disease like an Infective Endocarditis, something settled in his heart or on a valve. Sorry to be vague, it all happened so fast.
  7. HW ^^ purebreds are most definitely being rehomed inappropriately because they sell well. One particular pound would rather give their silkies to literally anyone except me, that shits me to tears.
  8. Still silkies and yorkies all ages. edit crankypants deleted :)
  9. Yeh, I had 4 wisdoms done there. Insurance payed for x-ray & extraction but excluded all anaesthetics. They just say no that item is not on your list of coverage, too bad for you.
  10. I hope it's not a cash grab, although her injuries are real and I seriously doubt they had health insurance to cover getting decent reconstructive surgery. Fundraising brings out the scammers too. I'm sure I saw that the official Go-Fund-Me or one of those crowdfunding things (commonly used when people have no charity permission) had raised $100,000+ and I bet you there's a bunch of other scabs running their own little 'fundraisers' who will never pass the money on. Found it. Apparently the official one http://www.gofundme.com/8q8yww
  11. What a beautiful little girl she's still just a baby. Grandfather charged with child endangerment... I can't believe she survived the attack. video
  12. Rescues don't take their dogs back either. It's getting common. We've taken back rescue dogs that we didn't rehome in the first place. For some it's getting like buying from byb anyway. Nobody ever expects byb or puppy farm breeders to take dogs back but that's ultimately a reflection, the expectation that purebred breeders have their dog's best interest at heart. Which isn't all that bad.
  13. OT, but why is it that products such as Prokolin+ or even "human" products such as Pepto Bismol and Kaopetcate are not available in Australia? Pepto and Kaopetcate and common products in the US, probably even available at supermarkets. Yet here they're effectively banned. I know that the overpriced veterinary equivalent is available. So as usual we're paying too much for so-called veterinary products when the cheaper "human" equivalent would be just as good. Is it the 'nanny state' at work? Maybe they're not here because they're so gross. bleerk But so much of the human stuff now has artificial sweetener which means it's unsuitable for animals anyway. Like electrolytes for example. That reeeally annoys me. Pretty much safest in the kaopectate style stuff for animals on shelves right now is the pet product Peptosyl. Not too dear, no prescription and stops the trots if it's just a simple tummy upset but I wasn't going to suggest it here because of the pinky frothy milkshake-like mess it makes when they spit it back at you. .
  14. It's not vital, just the only treat I can give them while they're on such a strict barf pattie diet. Roo tendon chews haven't really caused any dramas when I get brave enough to test them. Stopping the dogs from scavenging things like a bit of kibble someone has put in the bed for later is the hardest part  I was slightly disappointed by the results from Z/D and would probably only use it again if I really had to. The dogs get bored of it within a week...... Actually no, they get bored of it as soon as I order a large bag. Brats! lol Wishing you luck :) you'll get there in the end.
  15. :) I've had more than a couple with dodgey tummies. And elimination diets and z/d, roo etc etc are a looong loooong road. If I can just suggest my now first-in-line diet test.... and it may not be everybody's first choice. Start a 2 - 4wk trial with barf, I use 'combo'. Just barf. Absolutely not even a crumb of biscuit, no fish, no egg, no dairy, nothing else. Treats: Only meaty bone with no fat and limited marrow. A little sweet potato for the dogs who need more fibre. If that works you just get a bit more adventurous from there. Get an upset - strike it off the list. And have a tube of Prokolin+ paste on hand (I have to get mine from the UK, it passes customs no problem)
  16. If you mean me I said she seems OK (and the 'ethical breeder' bit is on the OL site) as well whether she stands behind it or not. It didn't make any difference anyway to the stuff I saw people write
  17. Panto, your delivery address went in the e-news and hopefully you'll get some stuff but if you have an email you'd like me to share with inquiries just PM. They upset me so much, I put in the two litters of dumped country pups from last week. Subscribers were very moved to see the hardship rural co-ords, rescue and rangers face. Kudos to everyone who works against the odds.
  18. And I quite agree. It's funny how on this forum and other internet sites, some people love to cut down those people and organisations who are helping to change the perception and treatment of animals. Let's save our anger for those who mistreat animals and profit from their mistreatment. Having been one of the targets of social media at one time by someone who didn't even know me, but attacked my efforts to help animals, it is never okay to hide behind a keyboard and sprout venom as some do. They would never say it face to face or without the backup of the anonymous army. I don't know if Debra Trantor did what some are saying, but I do know she has done a truckload of good for a lot of animals, possibly at the expense of following a better life for herself. Maybe we can celebrate that instead. Baifra, Stellnme I'll explain my experience, and I was most definitely not on the receiving end of nasty. Deb was always quite complimentary and very nice. I last saw her in Sydney at that Pet show thingo, she's always been pleasant, supportive and chatty. But this is what I saw, being on her friends list. Followers were encouraged to raid pages belonging to members of parliament, perceived puppy farmers, pet retailers etc. And in all honesty it didn't take much more than a simple comment. It was like opening flood gates. There was thousands ready to fight for the cause like an army. Send emails, make calls and in general be an aggressive nuisance. Random people believed to somehow be involved in ... not sure what.... were named & shamed. re Breeders, not sure about that one but she did seem to be OK about people buying pedigree from what was a 'responsible ethical' breeder. However most of the followers were absolutely anti so it didn't really matter. I saw people I knew, like Julie be accused of all sorts of weird stuff and outright lies. Then a rescue friend also pointed out to me that OL is not registered, not a holder of authority to fundraise, not a charity. Maybe that's relevant, I don't know anything about their fundraising but IMHO it's not right to be 'not for profit' if you haven't done the yards to get your approvals. BUT above all. Most frightening to me: the rabid crazies...omg, the adulation of Deb, grovel, hanging on every word, their absolute vicious loyalty. Foul language, disgusting abuse, vile accusations, death threats, trespass...not that Deb always gave clear instructions, she really didn't have to, they were ready to attack and really quite scary. So I went from welcoming the basics of Oscar's Law = puppy farm closures. To that feeling of when you've walked into a room, realised you're in the wrong place and then have to back out silently and slowly. No eye contact. Trolling is not funny and I know all too well how it affects your health and she is another casualty of FB. So as much as I find her nice, her hands aren't completely clean which is a shame, and I believe she has lost more OL supporters (or potential supporters) than she realises.
  19. Ironically I clearly remember her encouraging people to do the same thing.
  20. http://www.smh.com.au/national/animal-activist-worn-down-by-online-abuse-20140607-39q2x.html Standing aside: Oscar's Law founder Debra Tranter says she has suffered at the hands of trolls. Photo: Joe Armao Veteran animal rights activist and founder of Melbourne lobbyists Oscar's Law, Debra Tranter, is standing down as the public face of the campaign because of ''debilitating'' online trolling. She will stand down in November after she has fulfilled speaking commitments at a world youth forum next month and leading an animal rights rally at the Victorian Parliament in October. She said this week she felt like she had suffered repeated ''kicks in the head'' after sustained trolling and abuse directed at her online - on Facebook, Twitter, blogs and forums. Trolling is a deliberate attempt to upset or anger someone online. Part of the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act regulates the internet and can be used to prosecute trolls. There are also laws in Victoria and NSW that can be used against offensive online behaviour. The abuse against Ms Tranter has also spilled offline with threatening phone calls and her home address posted on the internet. Ms Tranter, who lives alone, has moved house within Victoria six times and now uses elaborate security systems. Oscar's Law has campaigned since 1993 to have puppy farms banned and dogs from puppy farms banned from sale in pet shops. Ms Tranter has also promoted dog adoption through rescue groups and shelters. But her own motivations and ethics have been questioned online where she has been accused of stealing donated money and casting doubt on dog breeders who consider themselves ethical but might be perceived to be running a ''puppy farm''. Ms Tranter, 48, has a heart condition and suffered a heart attack last year. She says the trolling ''has a lot to do with'' her decision to stand down. ''It is hard to take and it is hard to understand. Every time you stick your head up you get a kick and … that gets to you.'' Ms Tranter said apart from the toll on her, the effect of the trolling was to make members of the public question whether they should donate money or time to her cause. She said in one instance a Melbourne events company pulled out of an alliance due to threatening letters sent to them anonymously. Ms Tranter's decision comes as another Melbourne activist campaign - No Maccas in the Dandenong Ranges, based in Tecoma - faces court against another alleged troll and stalker. Amy Muratore, 26, the daughter of campaign head Garry Muratore, is seeking an intervention order against a former mayor of Preston, Alan Coutinho-Hogan, 66, alleging he told her she should be ''gang-raped''. Mr Coutinho-Hogan has claimed in court he does not know her and will contest the allegations next month. Jenna Price of feminist campaigners Destroy The Joint says she and her daughters have also been threatened both online and offline. 21. I've never surrendered a dog..I was under the impression that you had to take it to the facility who impounds for the council you live in. That you can't drive across town to find somewhere else. Hills Shire Council dogs go to Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter, aiming at reduced PTS rates, not sure what the stats are atm but they are trying. Pounds in general: some are working towards low-kill to the best of their resources. But they only have a finite amount of room to work with. If you surrender a dog to a pound that is overflowing already then there is a very real possibility that dog will be at serious risk of euthanasia. Surrendered dogs are able to be put to sleep immediately although I've heard some have a 24hr holdover in case the owner changes their mind.
