  1. I use a plastic ice-cream container for their water bowl in the kitchen and ceramic ones for their bathroom and outside. They use stainless bowls for food but i'm thinking about investing in either a snood or cocker bowls for their food (I still haven't decided ) I know I should have decided by now but every single time i have extra money to spend, i spend it on treats and toys for them instead of something useful for them
  2. I'm glad Ollie is feeling better!
  3. Some people just aren't meant to have dogs *sigh* I must say though my cocker gets matts too even when we brush her everyday (Sorry, correction. OH BRUSHES HER EVERYDAY incase he reads this later ). I'm still waiting for a lady to call me back to teach me how to clip and groom her so she's got a very fluffy and thick coat at the moment. Is this the first time you got this fellow?
  4. He's a gorgeous darling My little gold boy Orson turned one in April and he was a menace when we first got him, mainly cos we spoilt him so much. He's improved since I took him to obedience training. I currently have a foster and Orson is very protective of his belongings. I'm currently sitting on the couch with him and my other cocker sleeping next to me. If Mishka (foster) comes anywhere near then they'll just start barking Do you do any obedience training with your little boy? (you didnt' mention his name) It would be good for both you and him to have obedience training. It's also good for socialisation with all sorts of different dogs. I found out my little girl doesn't like poodle Xs very much She's met 2 and both she doesn't like. She's very naughty ;) but atleast she gets on with most other dogs
  5. I wash my dogs in Aloveen and use the conditioner afterwards. They smell wonderful but after a while (once they've been outside running around) they do start getting their own distinctive doggy perfume (it's just the Orson smell and the Oi Oi smell ) But honestly they dont smell bad like poo or anything.
  6. He's beautiful! I'm glad Ollie's doing better!!!!
  7. Orson, my gold cocker, was a bastard as a puppy. We spoiled him heaps and he started biting my feet and growl etc. I asked here for help and it definitely improved. You've chosen a good place to ask for help! He's protective of me and OH but that's only when other dogs are around (I foster care sometimes). He doesn't have a problem with my mum's dogs though which is funny Orson and Oi (our other cocker - blue roan) sleeps on our bed and furniture too. We have a few problems sometimes when they fight for attention (sleeping on my lap) when one of us is home by ourselves but it's quickly sorted. Dogs are individuals just like humans so it's hard to predict how some dogs will act. DO NOT GO TO BARKBUSTERS!!!! It will only make your cocker worse!!! Throwing chains will not help!!!! Good luck with your cocker! What's his name? Do we get any piccies?
  8. I think your sister should get a puppy when she can get some time off work to spend some time with the dog. It would also be best for the puppy to be kept inside. It is winter and it is fairly cold during the day, not to mention with rain as well lately. I'm sure it's perfectly fine for a puppy to be outside provided adequate bedding and shelter but its best to keep inside while he's getting used to his new home. Is there an area like the bathroom/laundry your sister can fence off for the puppy? I had a baby gate to keep Orson in the bathroom and had the whole floor covered with newspaper. I would go home in my lunch breaks to feed him and make sure he's ok. I've also been fortunate enough to take him to work a few times with me. I agree with poodlefan though. Your sister shouldn't rely on the neighbour to feed the puppy. If your sister wants a puppy, it should be her responsibility. Whatever your sister's decision is, I hope she makes the right one for her and good luck!
  9. You should try contacting Colin (DOL name: nicestman77). Colin has many years grooming experience and he also sharpens clipper blades and scissors etc. I'm sure he can help you He's certainly helped me heaps!!! I've met him in person too when I collected my clippers and he was really nice
  10. Annual membership (household): $60 Obedience (per year): $40 per dog Flyball is $40 and Agility is $50
  11. I cook the meat up for my 2. I feed mainly chicken (breast either minced or little chunks - I get free access to chicken ), beef (liver, steak) and lamb (liver, frys). I've been cooking the mince since Orson was a baby and he had a tummy ache so I fed him cooked chicken breast. I feed them raw chicken wings, fish oil tablets and boiled eggs (they dont know what to do with raw ones). I mixed up cooked beef liver, wombok and rice with some chicken stock a little while ago and that will keep them happy for the next few days In terms of veges, I feed them carrots, wombok, and any veges I happen to have in my fridge (snow peas, broccoli, chinese veges). I do have 2 rabbits so I buy things both the dogs and rabbits can eat. Sultanas and grapes are another thing you should never feed dogs.
  12. Try checking the classifieds on the DOL main page. Sometimes breeders/groomers sell their dryers off. I remember seeing someone selling the dryer because they bought it and didn't like it
  13. Glad to hear Ollie is feeling better
  14. I pretty much cook all the food before I feed it to my 2 (cooked chicken mince, beef mince, kidney, tripe etc). I also feed canned salmon, canned sardines, boiled eggs, fish oil tablets and raw chicken wings. I dont feed carcasses or necks cos they're too big and fatty. I feed my 2 RC Medium Adult. I dont feed my 2 canned food very often. If I do it's mainly Nature's Gift or My Dog. I also feed them veges and some rice at times.
  15. Please get well soon Ollie Best wishes from Stacey, Chris, Orson and Oi
  16. I went to Horseland today and bought a 7.5m nylon lunge lead.
  17. How long ago did you guy yours Ali? I'll go in tomorrow and see if there's any price difference. Who knows? there might be. Will let everyone know (that's if Im not too tired by the end of the day to drive half hour to check. It's 3 minutes to get home from where I'm on professional experience)
  18. cavNrott, how long is the lunge lead? ETA: Found it on the Horseland Website. $19.95 for a 9m I think I'll go to Horseland for a squeeze tomorrow. I wanna go to Pet Barn too to see if I can buy Orson and Oi more treats and toys Jeez, they're spoilt! ;)
  19. There IS a possibility RC might not be good for his tummy (different dogs do do better on some foods rather than others) but I think it might be the sudden change of diet that has lead to runny stools. Orson had runny stools when he was about 3 months. He had really runny stools and I was told by my mum to feed him only boiled chicken. It took about 3 days for his tummy to settle and not have runny stools. Now he's big, heavy (well, compared to when I first got him) and healthy. He and Oi now has RC Medium Adult and cooked breast mince all the time ;)
  20. OH and I were encouraged to be positive and use food when we attended Kindy with our 2. We were still encouraged to use it in Beginners but we were taught some hand signals and to use our voice to attract our dogs' attention. We were told on Thursday (we graduated from Beginners) that starting next week when we're in Intermediate, the instructors will start encouraging us to gradually ease out out luring. We will still reward them with treats and praise when they've done something right of course. We've been told we can't depend on food solely to get our dogs to pay attention to us. Definite try to use hand signals, clickers, and voice as well as food because one day you might not have food around and you want your dog to be able to come to you when you call/click/signal
  21. Hi BMP, You're not a bad trainer!!! Dont think of yourself as one!!! You're a very caring person and you're doing great with Nessie!!!! Orson and Oi passed Beginners and it's only because of heaps and heaps of treats I've been told Intermediate will be harder because we have to go away from lureing
