I am often looking at puppy for sale ads and prices have definitely dropped a lot in Australia.

For example, the once popular breeds, such as the cross bred cavoodle, I have seen advertised for as low as $1,500 when they were up to $8,000 at the peak.

It is my guess that you could ring a lot of people advertising puppies and offer what you can afford and they may take it as they cannot sell pups.

It is a deterrent for people adopting when they can buy exactly what they want for a similar price.

Yes my sisters daughter paid 7,000 for an oodle, 18 months ago. friend just bought one for her mum 1,500.

but the dog world and breed and x bred fashion cycles have been in existence for decades.

    its not new and repeats

the fashion starts, people start breeding whats in and flood it.

    crash

    fashion starts for another

seen it , being over 70, seen so many breeds bred to freak proportions and suddenly no one wants them

    sadly fact.

micromanaging only the ankc and other registers will never stem the flood

the invisible backyarders are not huge visible traceable "puppy farms"  as so often said,  they actually

are people with 1 or 2 but there are tens of thousands of them.

  2. We all know none of our mums end up looking like the ar nutters photos.

I know Jedda is not unique in the yummy mummy stakes.

How about sharing so people comming to dogzonline can see how fab our mum's are when their pups are 8 weeks?

  3. This is Jedda, her brats are 8 weeks now

looking at all the flab on her I cant help but wonder why didn't the ANKC counter all those skeletal photos the opposition keep posting?  with the thousands of picks of ankc mums and their pups?

The public think having a litter drains the life out of the mums because it wasn't done. Is it too late to teach Joe public the truth ????????????

there are actually six of them but some left this weekend already

I was quite shocked and saddened to read this post but it has prompted me to do some more research into the use of animals for experimentation in Australia.

I feel almost very ignorant to have discovered that over a million animals, ranging from baboons to mice are used each year in Australia for all types of experimentation.

I just googled "animals used for experiments in Australia" and the statistics are alarming

It really just makes me so very sad.

how on earth do you think CSIRO animal health became a world leader in what?   Animal health. the animals they use are to make sure drenches work, what will kill the emerging drench resistance strains. etc, etc, etc u name it

How do you think Dr Victor Chang perfected his heart lung surgery?  Long before his first world breaking success on people?    On the pigs at CSIRO McMaster Animal health?   I happen to know because my husband was the anesthetist for the pigs.

How do you think Bob and Darria Love learned the correct dosages for new born foals with pneumonia?

get a grip, ban all research and you wont be so thrilled with the consequences

for example before Bob and Darria's work 18,000 foals a year were dying on average because the dosage is different for a foal just for starters

What was the calibre of the scientists working for CSIRO Animal Health?, before our politicians gutted the place with ever decreasing funding?

Can't even see why they bother doing studies  on it .  Its not rocket science  ,, on the left you have  wild dogs ,, wolfs , foxes , dingos ,, these dogs have not yet worked out how to   grow grain , they don't know how to build or work machinery , plant corn or wheat , so they chase other animals and reptiles for there sunday dinner .

Domesticated dogs on the other hand  have come to rely on humans for food and humans themselves gave up hunting there food  a couple  of years ago so just go down the shop and buy it  in the process they buy there dog food , hence dogs  eating habits and digestive systems have evolved  diferently ,

So there you have it lesson free , next one only half the charge of an expensive study , save money make me rich win win  situation

I honestly don't understand why the purebred world have moved to a thought process of 'should only breed when they want a pup'.   In my opinion, responsibly bred, well raised  pups who are representative of the breed (type, temperament etc) - who are bred for the 'pet market' are a credit to their breed and the breeder.  They should be accepted not chastised.   Disclaimer - at this point I am talking about pet/family friendly breeds and lines.  Additional disclaimer - I am not endorsing unethical breeding practices.

fact, the purebred world embraced the " 'should only breed when they want a pup"  COMPLETY AND UTTLERLY as the gold standard for Ethical and Responsible.

In this rarefied world to do anything else is to be an immediate target for elimination by a significant and busy group within the membership, I tagged them the thought police over 30 years ago when they first began their activities.  It is very satisfying when I see one thought policer has been targeted by another thought policer. yep they even attack each other at times

busy fingers get dialing rspca, animal welfare and even the local council to apply enough pressure and humiliation that the target gives up.  Even better if a sick dog or something else is found that gets them charged with something, BINGO instant cancellation of membership.

When it began it reminded me of the stories why my black Irish grandfathers ancestors fled the Spanish inquisition centauries ago.  Then too it only took one to report you.

    ditto for the witch trials.

The human race loves witch hunts and inquisitions.    great way to reduce the population too .  o what fun, now we have puppy farmer elimination hunts.

heaps of photos of starving mums with pupping hanging off their stretched empty dungs.

Did the ankc publish equal numbers of radiantly healthy mums so fat they needed to go on a diet after their pups were weaned??

resounding NO, they did not.  Never for a second  twigged to the manipulation or the result of not showing the real world instead of the animal nutters doctored propaganda.

done a real number on how many people still breed .   done even better number on crashing availability of a puppy too.

    What a devastating story :(

I wonder if it’s also or alternatively a case of the people reporting attacks misattributing breed, and journalists just running with the description. When my parents’ toy poodle was attacked, my mother said the attacking dog was a pitbull. When I asked her about the dog’s appearance, her answers told me that it was actually a bull terrier (a strong, stocky, medium-sized white dog with a football shaped head). Sure enough, it was a bull terrier that was restrained by passersby and taken away by council.

yes many have no idea of breed, or behaviour either for that matter.

a friend told me her dog was brutally attacked in her own car when she opened the door a pit bull jumped into the car and attacked him.

I visited the house where the "attack"  occurred and the neighbours 6 month old English bull terrier puppy (the ones with the big Roman nose, came hurtling through the fence to say hi!

its colour and markings matched the description of the "pit bull terrier" I had been told about.

she was only an over enthusiastic baby and obviously would help a burglar carry out the furniture, just like my aunts bull terriers. Everyones new best friend.   Well to humans. once older any ones dog challenge one of my aunts to a fight was not a wise dog.

Hence my aunt made sure her fences were secure and always on lead when she want walking with them, Neither of her dogs were aggressive to other dogs.  but if they were attacked they did fight back, as good as they got.

  8. the facts are any breed bred for fighting are more effective in dispatch.  Any breed bred for hunting and killing vermin are more effective in dispatch.

the other fact is. Dogs are completely unaware its not acceptable to kill . be it a chook, a cat, or another dog that triggers an attack response.

I came home one day to find my cavalier looking very proud of herself! Yes she had killed.

the body of the brown snake proudly brought to me.

I had completely forgotten, what are spaniels bred for?   Hunting,  Her instincts had not.

I also know a friend had 4 Cavalier King Charles.  came home to find one dead.

Examination proved she had been killed by one or more of the other 3.

their shocked owner was greeted at the gate by three wagging tails and happy smiles.

obviously they felt no guilt over the demise of no 4.

so many people are utterly shocked when a killing happens at a dog park!

Frankly its a statement of how well behaved the majority are, that so few occur.

That teenager who killed those 18 children knew what he did was reprehensible but he still did it. No dog knows that.  May be disciplined if it shows aggression, but that's only if you happen to be present and can there to say NO!  Along with your dog obeys.   Many are very poorly trained fur children, its so fortunate how few attacks happen in relation to the hundreds of thousands who do not

    do so.

do you really think you dog understands "tho shalt not kill?"

if dogs that grew up together can kill one of the group, why on earth should anyone be surprised when mixing dogs that dont even know each other can lead to an attack?

which is why I do not use dog parks

I have never been a fan of Russian roulette

  9. gee one vet practice, that's had enough.

    Dear Dog Owners,
This week I have seen post after post after post on the veterinary social media pages about the struggle with larger breed dogs that are undisciplined and fearful and trying to bite at staff and veterinarians. Half of the posts stated that they, the vet, were going to stop seeing any large breed dogs, some of them said that they were going to fire all clients who had dogs that were not well controlled, others said that they were starting to refuse service to dogs that growled or tried to bite or got freaked out when they tried to examine them. Clients, this is a huge problem and it is your problem and let's be real, it is your fault.
Dogs are NOT children or humans and we need to stop treating them like they are. They are animals! They do not learn by being coddled and babied and allowed to get away with whatever they feel like doing. It does not work that way in the animal kingdom. If you are a little shit of a dog your mom or some older dog is going to bite your head off to teach you! Once that puppy leaves its mom, you now become the teacher and trainer of what is and what is not acceptable behavior and if you don't, you and you alone are ruining your dog!
Dogs need discipline! They are like your kids! They need you to teach them, to train them, to discipline them so they learn what is and what is not acceptable. I can not tell you the number of times I have been in an exam room and a dog is growling at me and the owner does nothing. In fact, often times they pull back from the dog and they always get that sheepish look and often will say, “he doesn’t bite.” The hell he doesn’t bite! He is a dog, he bites and he is going to bite me because you have not shown him who is boss and he has no fear of humans and he has no idea that being a jerk is not allowed.
Please, if you love your dog, do your job and discipline them, train them, show them the proper way to behave and make sure they know that being a jerk gets them in trouble. If you do not, you will not be able to find a vet to help them when they are in need and that will be your fault and not the vets fault. No where in our oath does it say that we have to subject ourselves to being bitten by someones dog because they treated it like a human and felt sorry for it and never disciplined it and so it now has no respect for humans and bites. If you don’t start being a responsible pet owner, your dog is not going to be seen and you do not want that to happen.
Do not let your dog be the top dog in your house! It is not fair to them and it is not fair to us in the veterinary profession when we have to fear for our safety in order to try and help them when they are sick.
Teach them to be nice, take them to uncomfortable places, make sure they know that humans are the big dog in the relationship, that does not mean you beat them that means you show them that you are the boss by not allowing them to be jerks and get away with behaviors that they shouldn’t. Your dogs life and health depend on you being a good dog owner and raising them to be good dogs.
    Sincerely,
    Dr Debbie and Every Vet

John's interview was very powerful and clearly articulated what is at risk for the listeners of this racing radio network. The risks they are exposed to is no different to the risks anyone who owns animals is facing
One of the announcers even provided a story of how this dangerous ideology is infiltrating the education setting.
I urge you all to put 30 minutes aside to listen to the interview and even consider sharing the link on your own social pages.
We need to get this message out before it is too late.

  11. has that only just gone to court?

gee no mention of the fact ALL the dogs they didnt take had been given to rescues and all successfully rehomed.  Despite the fact they had applied to the court to not only kill the dogs they took but to get a court order to seize all the rest of them, so lucky for the remaining dogs they went to the rescue before the rspca could get them and put them down too. absolute disaster for the rspca's assertion none of them could be safely rehomed. Nor would they let any they had go to the rescues to see if they could rehome them as successfuly as the others they had, public relations disaster

only the rspca had problems with the dogs they took,  remember the link.

the rescue or rescues. forget if it was one or more begged the rspca to let them retrain the ones they wanted to kill.  at the time they seized them on the grounds they would not make eye contact with the inspector. it was on tape.

    Found the link

  12. surely there was more to be commented on than finding "dead rats"  ????????????

any dog would kill a rat, snake, mouse that showed up ?

as for the number of dogs, incredible.

Although to be realistic, As my vet conceded over ten years ago now, (and he HATES puppy farming) it was getting down to the wire then he believed, we will be needing the legal puppy farms will have to be that big or bigger to take up the slack for the hundreds of thousands of puppies that sure are never going to be available from the registered breeders who are not allowed to breed for the pet market.

  13. How on earth can we get this plastered far and wide before its too late?

    It almost is too late

This copied from smith oats on regards to AJP policy........
“To phase out the sale of companion animals”
Let that sink in a moment, as animal loving owners I think this is too important not to share
Those words are from the ANIMAL JUSTIC PARTY “Phase out the sale of companion animals” do you really know what that means?
It’s fabulous that they want people to adopt dogs from a shelter BUT, is your courtyard size block really a realistic home for a working dog, Bull Arab or other large breed? Are these large breeds really suitable for your 2 year old to grow up with? Can your 10 year old safely walk the dog you purchase from a shelter? The sad reality is that MOST dogs in shelters are high energy working or hunting breeds, many of which are not suitable for suburban living or a young family.
“Mandate desexing at point of sale”
Sounds great BUT where does your next puppy come from? If all dogs are to be desexed, in 10-15 years when your current loved house pet sadly passes away WHERE does your next pooch or cat come from? Prices will skyrocket, the current average of 5k will soon turn into 15k when the demand doesn’t meet supply.
DONT let the animal justice party fool you with their gut wrenching stories of puppy farms and animal abuse cases, yes we know they exist, yes we know it happens, NO we do not agree with any of it but there are also ALOT of good breeders out there. The Animal Justice Party’s main aim is exactly what they have put in writing
TO PHASE OUT THE SALE OF COMPANION ANIMALS.
Please remember this post when the time comes to vote ❤️ think of your sweet little dog waiting for you at home and think, a house is not a home without a dog ❤️

My aunt had miniature poodles for as long as I could remember. There was only once she bred a miniature girl she had and it was mated with a toy. She had 2 puppies. One was small like it's sire - but the other one could sit in the palm of a SMALL hand when it "grew up" I have no idea what went wrong - he was perfectly proportioned; just incredibly, ridiculously small (except for the testicles, which were a toy poodle size on a TINY dog and just for his health, he was neutered). I never thought it was right to breed her like that.

surely she had more chance of an easy delivery bred to a toy than her own size?  I have seen many litters with big differences in size of the puppies in many breeds, not just poodles.  some mini's stay so small they are too small for the miniature ring.   some toys too large for the toy ring.

As for chihuahua's, unreal. a friends girl I was looking after was certainly on the large size, as in 6lb - 2.7 kg. she was beginning to look like a rock melon and expressed my concern about how big she was getting.  when she did go into labor no pups were coming to raced to the vet he said  she was so full of pups she just couldn't push and she had 10. believe it or not.  from that litter some grew to 2.7 kg like their mum, others only to 1.2   kg, that's a huge difference in sizes. many litters do that in the small breeds more so than the larger breeds of dog I think?

The ANKC considers each of the recognized sizes of poodle to be separate breeds.

Interbreeding is not permitted. To do so would be a breach of the Code of Ethics.

The pups from such a mating would be considered crossbred.

interesting,   many decades and I do mean many, 1960 I think? friend bred toy poodles, and I think she told me she reregistered the over height ones in the litter as miniatures? which since they are the same breed made more sense than restricting the gene pool as it is now, especially with all the concentration about maintaining genetic diversity within the breeds?

A single species that shares a single environment- Breeders just don't get that responsibility is a biological imperative for success or at least its biological definition.  Attacking that environment to remove its perceived failures is not responsibility. Teaching how to deliver better value is, and its demonstration is all that can bring acceptance, the only way to increase both the species and its available environment .

Value is always subjective. ANKC was founded on Objective values. Application of the wrong value creates a double negative and corrupts the language to convey the opposite message of that intended.

Destroying the foundations of Domestic Dogs, can only leave them with no support.

exactly, they completely forgot their very basis for existance. To ENCOURAGE AND MAINTAIN.  Instead they turned on each other to eliminate and discourage the majority in their zeal to be seen to be eliminating back yard breeders which all of them are?

I keep remembering my friends words only recently. we are both long. long  long time members from the days when newbies were welcomed instead of viewed with suspicion.

no i better not repeat what she said come to think of it. last time I did I received a letter from the ankc it had been brought to their notice had had committed an offense.  sigh not safe to speak too much of the truth anymore

The ANKC (and others) also seem to be pushing for extinction through limited registration, denigrating"BYBs" and closed registries.

I'm all for keeping pedigrees and for rational health testing (ie required tests depend on frequency of problem,  seriousness of problem and reliability of the test).  I'd also like to see genetic testing used to prevent inbreeding.

What I mostly sense is trying to limit breeding to titled dogs and dogs that pass rather arbitrary health testing claiming to be "ethical ".

Yes, they fell into line with the AR nutters early on just would not understand that everyone has a backyard so began eliminating each other from the get go
