  1. I have seen it for sale in stock feed places in 20kg bags. Going to last a pug a loooonnnggg time unless you can find smaller bags! lol
  2. I'll third that suggestion, I love mine. Use it on border collies and a beagle without any problems at all.
  3. There are usually 2 endurance tests each year. 1 held by the German Shepherd Dog Club and the other by the Gundog Club (I think, someone willh hopefully correct me ifI am wrong). I am not sure where exatly they hold them theses days. As for Lure Coursing - I heard from someone once that Rhodesian Ridgeback club used to hold some fun days, once again no idea where though or if it is open to other breeds, or if they even still hold them as it was several years ago that I heard about it Not a huge amount of help I know. Maybe ring SACA and see what they know about both?
  4. Did the vet check for tonsilitis? It can be nasty in dogs, cause them to cough or gag, have a really disguting breath and go off of their food. I would go for a second opinion and full examination, also check for any skin infections as they can be quite smelly as well.
  5. Could it be pain related? How does the incision site look? Is it red, inflamed or oozing, has he pulled at stitches? Pain can cause interesting reactions not normally seen so ti could just be that he is really sore and sensitive. I would definitely get him checked on Monday if he has not started to settle and is not normally like this. In the meantime be extra vigilant with managing him and keep the dogs seperate at meal times. Good luck, hope it is nothing too serious and is as simple as he is just a bit sore and grumpy and it soon settles down for you.
  6. You can get it from www.pookinuk.com.au for $5 delivery even on the 13.5kg bag I got some from them a couple of weeks agaon and it arrived here in a day Wow, When I looked at their webage I was under the impression that you had ot pay more for delivery to SA. Guess not, cool I have been dealing direct with the distributor to get some but am having problems with the direct deposit details he gave me and the money keps bouncing back to me ;) Might order from pookinuk and email thanks to him for his assistance but let him know I have arranged some. Part of my thought in contacting the distributor was also that if he found he was getting enquirires from SA it might increase the chance of getting someone here to stock it, I have also asked a couple of stores about it too.
  7. Oh Mel, I am so sorry for your loss. Buffy was such a sweet, sweet girl and she will always be remembered by you and Brett and the family she happily shared the life off as well as the many people out there that greatly admire your dogs. 8 years was not long enough, run free Buffy
  8. I just bought a sigma 24 - 135 f2.8 lens from sigma4less and am loving it. It was so much cheaper buying from overseas, I got it for less than $300 including postage. I chose that lens as it was in my price range and comments on photography forums from users of my camera found it to be an good all round genreal purpose lens. The kind that you leave on the camera for most things, so far I am really happy with it. The pictures are much charper than on my old kit lenses. I started by looking at some of the webpages that had been suggested on here, such as www.sigma4less.com and www.bhphotovideo.com and finding lenses that were in my price range anf focal length range then hunting around on the web for reviews of them.
  9. Yeah their service is amazing - quicker than getting things locally! I found their tracking link really good too - my order had left the US by the time I got out of bed the next morning, so it was packed and shipped within about 8 - 10 hours.
  10. A massive thumbs up to both these companies. Their service is just fantastic. I rodered a lens from sigma4less and a flash from B&H late last Wednesday night, paid for standard shipping and have already received both items!! B&H were particularly good - I would have had the flash on Monday except that I wasn't home for the courier driver then they failed to turn up during the time I had said to them yesterday so I finally got it today. The lens was shipped 1 day later as sigma4less do a verification of new international customers and I did not check email from when I ordered it on Wed night until after work Thursday, or else I probably would have got that on Monday or Tuesday as well. So if anyone is thinking of getting new camera equipment, I would highly recommend either business. Thanks to whoever it was that suggested them on here. And with the exchange rate so strong, both items cost less than the lens alone over here in Australia. I have already decided that my kit lens will probably never return to my camera again and I will probably not bother with the onboard flash either! I have only rattled off 10 or 20 pictures just to try out different things and they are much sharper than with the kit lens. I used the flash in a room so dark could hardly see the dog I was focusing on and the pictures did not over expose at all and through using the bounce head there is no red eye or reflection
  11. I use Thermomaster coats as I like the way they fit and also the 2 srpas under them to keep them secure. I have left the dogs outside in them all day on very wet days and not had issues with them being wet or even damp underneath.
  12. Piper thought she had to use her paw to push the dumbbell out of her mouth, so I sympathise :D 2 badly timed clicks as she happened to be sitting with dumbbell and paw off of the ground and weeks and weeks to kick the habit! I find I am more accurate with a clicker in regards to my timing and no emotions coming into it. An example of emotions working badly for Piper and I was I had been working on getting her to pen a foot pedal bin and put rubbish in it for ages. She could open it and she also already knew how to put something in a container but she couldn't work out that her foot had to stay on the pedal. Well finally 1 day while using a verbal marker she did it. The excitement in my voice showed so she spun around, jumped up at me in excitement as I was bending down. Hit me in the face putting my tooth into my lip, I screamed and pulled back and she wouldn't go near the foot pedal bin for ages! In terms of if you start with it are you stuck with it, not if you also train a verbal marker. Mine switch betwen them easily but as I said I find *I* am more precise with a clicker.
  13. My dear old boy Reagan was terribly thunder phobic and I used to use a T-shirt on him in storms. While it did not settle him totally, it reduced him from running through windows type of panic to being able to lay down with just some stress panting. Still not perfect, but a long way from where he was. I started using it on him about 6years ago after hearing about T-Touch and the anxiety wraps. At the time the wraps were not around over here so someone from the US suggested the T-shirt idea. I managed to get some kids long sleeved t-shirts in about a size 6 that were a great fit for a male border collie. At the time I was working in a special school and we had several kids with autism that we used deep pressure on. I had always called Reagan my autistic dog, so the wrap made perfect sense to me. I have also seen on the web before instructions on how to use an elastic bandage to make a wrap. Will see if I can find it again and post it here. eta: found the link. http://www.k9events.com/Carole_Bryant/Body...p_Anklewrap.pdf
  14. I m looking to Orijen as something to have on hand for when I can't get a good range of bones. I am finding it harder and harder to get good quality and variety of raw meaty bones around my area and without a deep frezer I am unable to stock up so I like to have a qulity kibble on hand for times when I can;t get to the shops or I get there but they don't have anythign reasonable. I currently use Eale Pack Holistic Select for this purpose but what dras me to try Orijen is that it is grain free, so more in line with a natural diet that I prefer to feed. For me wanting to try it has nothing to do with the hype of reading about it on this forum, it is purely that it is a commercial option that is closer to my preferred way of feeding than current options that are out there. I was initially old about Orijen by a friend in Canada over 12 months ago so wa thrilled to hear that we finally have a grain free kibble available over here. Out of interest, has anyone that is using Orijen tried the Artemis grain free as that is another option that I am considering. If you have used both, how do they compare?
  15. Hi Tosca, I emailed Orijen last week to find a supplier in SA They forwarded my email to the Australian distributor who promptly got in touch with me. Unfortunately there is no one in SA stocking it at the moment. However he has been really good to deal with and I am able to place an order direct with him. So I would suggest doing the same. Also if a few of us do it they may look to getting it into SA sooner.
  16. I haven't ordered it yet so if you want I can get some ofr you as well. Just waiting to here back on exact price from him.
  17. I am in SA and have been huntin around with no success trying to find it. But I have to say I am very impressed with Orijen and their service, I emailed the company and they forwarded my email to the Australian distributor who contacted me that day and is able to arrange for me to get some direct as there is no one over here with it Looking forward to trying it out with my guys, but it will be a couple of weeks as we still have quite a large amount of Eagle Pack to get through.
  18. Well all seems to be fine today, not even any runs. I had forgotten I had used it on cracked lips in the past so of course it mustn't be too bad. Amazing how we panic when we see they have consumed something odd!
  19. Thanks Garloch, I usually have some probiotics in the fridge, or yakult at the least, in case any one needs them so will definitely use them if the need arises. Now anyone want an adolescent border collie that is driving me nuts???? lol
  20. Yes well I thought that Jazz was being awful quiet and found her happily licking away at the end of the tube after chewing the lid off! It is the Lucan Brand 1 and I just looked up the potassium sorbate and it is primarily used as a food preservative and derivd from blue berries, so there you go So I think we will be ok, but I will stock with my thoughts that we may get a bit of the runs from it. So far she seems her normal self and has been eyeing off the remainde of the tube tht is up here! I am only taking a guess at the 1/4 of a tube as I had ued a fair bit already and there still seems to be a reasonable amount in there.
  21. This stuff is great. I have even found it good for some small cuts I had on my hands as well as some splits on the dogs pads. BUT does anyone know what it will do if consumed??? Jazz (AKA The TERROR!!!!) managed to get hold of the tube and consume some of it. Maybe 1/4 of a tube at the most. I am suspecting it will give her the runs. Little ratbag!
  22. Here is a link to a recent thread on the topic: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=139365 Maybe go to some camera stores and try some out, get some makes and models and give a list to your parents of your preferred options.
  23. Must be hydrobath day, I have just been out giving Jazz a decent wash, Piper to do in a moment when it has heated up again. I also don't tend to worry about putting shampoo in the wash tank when preparing for a show as like you said I know what areas I want to really scrub. But for just giving them a bath in between I do tend to put some in and then just apply a bit extra to areas that need it (which is what I did today to turn Jazz back from black and tan to black and white) And I also find there are far less aches after using it, especially as I have a shoulder injury. For me it was worth every cent, sounds like you feel the same way.
  24. I went from an Olympus Ultra Zoom to a Dslr as well In regards to the Sony, I actually have the Konika Minolta which is basically the same as Sony bought out the Konica Minolta camera production, The mian problem I have had is finding lenses at a reasonable price. I think because there are less around, although now the Sony Alphas are taking off that seems to be improving.
