  1. A high value reward that my guys love is Kangaroo Mini Roasts. They are about $10 per kg which is compartiviely cheap when compared to many of the dog treats. You buy them in the meat section at the supermarket and can get them a herb and garlic crust. They take about 30mins to cook in the oven and don't stink the house out like liver does. When cool I cut into small pieces and freeze in zip lock bags, then just grab a bag when I want to do some training. 4Legs is good as well, but messy. Or VIP chunkers, I get the lamb as the chicken seems to go off much quicker.
  2. Still no results known from the weekend??
  3. At a guess that sounds like it may have been Tull Lutrell of Sarasota border collies. As to which border collie it was, couldn't take a guess at that. I've been waiting to hear results as well.
  4. Got this on another list, cute :D But I wondered how many breeders have given ths a go, lol http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jCnAjel02lM
  5. A bit over the budget you have mentioned but if I were SLR shopping right now I would be looking at the Canon 400. The 450 has just come out and i have seen the 400 on special for under 1000 with the twin lens kit.
  6. Mine (same model as Ellz by the looks of it) has a hose attachment so I just plug the outside hose into it and the tank is heated so warms the water. Drainage - I wheel mine onto the lawn and let the water go there. Mine lives under the verandah when not in use and I bought a cheap BBQ cover that fits over it.
  7. Thanks kja. Might have to have a look. My Sister in Law to be is having a small low key wedding and has asked me to take the pictures, it is not til the end of the year but I decided it is the perfect excuse to get at least a new lens and flash :D Will look more into those gold boxes andd see if I can't find me a good deal.
  8. Ok, enlighten me - what are the gold boxes? I am guessing they are some kind of package deal special?
  9. Ditto. After losing Ricky to this just 12 months ago and knowing seveal people with young dogs going through treatment for it at the moment, I would not sit and wait a week. I would rather race in and be told it was nothing than wait a week and find that it had spread.
  10. My old boy was 6 or 7 before he first got 1, they weren't around before that. And he was fine with it, but I was told to make it easy for him to start with so I used mostly dry biscuits that would fall out easily with some more interesting things around the top. Ricky got so good at emptying it that after a while I started putting a few cubes of cheese on top of whatever else was in it and sticking it in the microwave for 10 seconds so that the cheese melted through and stuck everything together. He would work at it for hours then to empty it. I would suggest getting something more interesting than schmakos - maybe chicken chunkers, or even putting some mince in there and leaving it fairly loose so that it comes out easily.
  11. There was a thread on here a few months ago on that topic. Some of the suggestions that I have since used are: Chicken hearts or livers - lightly microwaved to be less squishy. Cheese Diced apple, carrot or sweet potato. I was a bit dubious about this 1, but it turns out my guys all eat it quite happily. Dehydrated Liver Kngaroo Mini Roasts or steaks, cooked and diced Jackpot rewards can be raw chicken wings or necks, cans of sardines. At the Adelaide Pet Expo there was a stand with someone selling natural pet treats. They are available in the Supermaket but I forget the brand name  They had lamb crumbles which my guys loved. Hope that helps, try doing a search and you may find the old thread. There were quite a few pages and some great ideas.
  12. When I am eating a banana Jazz sits in front of me practically drooling waiting for some. And they all love apple and get to share the core. Over summer they got way too much fruit - they had a blast picking our peaches and apricots and eating all the windfalls. I was not overly impressed though as I love my fresh fruit straight off the tree, not to mention the massive increase in cleap up needed on the lawn!!
  13. Ah the joys of looking at a locals pics :p I can see quite a few familiar dogs in there. Great pictures
  14. Good luck with it Edgesmum. 1 of my oldies used to get Tonsilitis all the time and a slight slowing down in his eating was all we ever noticed. I know of another dog that was diagnosed with it after he went to the vet due to a seizure - had shown no signs at all and the seizure was likened to a febrile convulsion in people. He had his tonsils removed and has been fine since.
  15. Alternatively there is a DNA test out there now that enables you to see if your dog has the ivermectin sensitivity.
  16. I was sent this link today to Gin the Border Collie doing freestyle on Britain's Got Talent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Bt4kguLPTU
  17. A herding brag from SA. Today Piper became the 2nd dog in the state to gain an intermediate herding title (our instructors dog was the first - just 5 mins before us ). She worked well given that she gets very limited opportunities to work sheep. Now we move onto advanced - which I fear with our limited opportunities will be a bit beyond us but we will give it a go. Also onto duck trials - YEAH. And Jazz, not to be outdone gained her instinct certificate. She showed good use of the border collie eye - walking the width of the arena in the full crouch, moving up slowly, step by step, head down low. I am looking forward to doing more with her as I feel she has the potential to be a much nicer worker than Piper, who tends to run too close, be a bit soft and at times "too busy" - she can't stand being still.\, whereas Jazz is happy to lay and watch the sheep if they are clearly not going anywhere.
  18. I believe it is to be held at th Royal Show in the Dog Pavillion - the information on it and how to enter, as well as all of the different classes available is on the Royal Adeliade Show webpage under competitive entries, dogs.
  19. For a Papillion I would say things like raw chicken wings would be good. If there are problems with 1 dog trying to take the other dogs food then seperate them - either in crates or 1 in and 1 our while they chew on them. Alternatively supervision - all of mine have learnt after being watched and shooed away a few times from the dog still eating/chewing on something to leave them alone.
  20. I have a plush puppy 1 that I have used for spot cleaning. I got it when Jazz managed to get who knows what on her at a show. It just has to be sprayed on and then rubbed dry with a towel. The few times I have used it I have been happy with it but I have only used it on small marks.
  21. I have looked in 3 different supermarkets here in SA with no luck either Which is a bugger as they sound like a good option to keep in the freezer for emergencies. I coudn't find any frozen roo mince or anything either. The only dog food was in the refrigerated section
  22. Can't say I had ever noticed it before but looking at those 2 side by side there is a definite difference in the green
  23. It has been a couple of years since I went to Riverland to trial, it was always a nice relaxed sociable 1 though. When I went there was no camping on the grounds, most of us stayed at Cobdogla Caravan Park about 5 or 6km away. The management there used to be excellent and would allocate us an area out of the way to exercise dogs offleash. I have heard though that it is different management now, so not even sure if they still take dogs but I would give them a call as it is a nice park and not far away.
  24. They really do need the appropriate size 1 for their body weight for it to work correctly. All of them have different strength bungee cord on them. The larger the size, the stronger the bungee cord is. So a little dog I doubt would have sufficient weight to get enough movement happening for food to be dispensed from a large dog home alone
