  1. Great shots! And Saxon....hubba hubba! What a spunk!
  2. No words...just hugs.
  3. Up here in QLD the kennel thing applies to dogs actually on the program. Owners of dogs acquired from other places just bring the dog at a nominated time, leave it for a short time to be assessed, then come pick it up. I would assume the same would apply in NSW. :D
  4. greyhound breeders won't be happy about that and nor should they. I wouldn't be happy about that. Knowing the Qld trainers, they probably won't be aware of it until it's too late.
  5. Some more than others. My two youngest are OK to walk, though I would enjoy it more if my area weren't so ridiculously hilly . Cleo, though, is a pain in the butt to walk; she cannot walk a straight line, keeps walking in front of me, right under my feet, plus she has to stop every 30 metres to pee. Fortunately, she doesn't need much in the way of walks; she's nearly 11 so her walks are kept short. The other old gal doesn't get walked because she gets too out of breath (cancer).

  7. Not my dogs...they would eat dirt if I put it in a bowl and told them it was food. However, a friend of mine's dogs are another matter. I had been raving about some pig tongues I bought, and my dogs were crazy about. I gave her some for her dogs to try. Later, I asked her about how the dogs like them, and apparently her dogs weren't too keen on them au naturel, but they did finally eat them...after she had sauteed them with cheese!
  8. They're smart enough to stay out of my yard - they don't care to tangle with three greyhounds.
  9. Some really great photos! Everyone has such beautiful dogs! My 4 are very hard to get standing still and all in the one place. However, here are a couple of pair/group shots. Ziggy, Candy & Freckles Cleo & Freckles Cleo and Ziggy (mother and son)
  10. Sorry to hear about your dog. The biggest problem might be finding someone in this country who can do the op. Although I did find this articleabout a dog who had this performed this year. Unfortunately I doesn't name the vet who did it, but maybe it could help lead you to someone who can help. Oh, found another one here that may provide a lead as well.
  11. I also recommend Rowan at Animal Options!
  12. I don't have much experience with other sighthounds (only a handful of individuals over the years), but I have met and observed many, many greyhounds over the past 15 years or so. I have certainly seen plenty who exhibit some symptoms of anxiety, ranging from mild to severe (probably more of them in the mild range than the other end). Certainly not all of them, but in my experience it is certainly not uncommon in the breed. Not that it is necessarily a problem in many cases, as long as it is managed. Doesn't stop me from loving them!! :D
  13. A friend of mine uses Imparra for her (very spoilt) Irish Setter and is extremely happy with them. They may well be booked up by now, but worth a call at least.
  14. Just in case any one is interested... I'm selling some Sony Alpha lenses in marketplace.
  15. Are separate vaccs available for parvo and distemper though? My understanding (and I could well be wrong) is that only the combined vacc (C3?) is available (at least in this country), so if one of my dogs is ok for coverage of say parvo, but not distemper, I can't just vacc for distemper. Is that correct or not?
  16. That is utter BS! If this is her regular vet, I'd be thinking about looking for a new one. I hope her whippy is OK.
  17. I get meat directly from an abattoir (friend of a friend who works there gets it)...I have to buy in bulk (eg whole box of ox heart is about 27kgs) and I cut it up and bag it for the freezer. It's worth it though...I pay around $1.65 kg for hearts and $1.40 for ox kidney. I have 4 big dogs so I get through quite a bit of meat (I don't feed any dry food). So, it might be worth contacting local meat processing and/or poultry processing plants to see if you can get stuff direct.
  18. It's a Sigma 24-70 f2.8. My camera is a Sony A700, and I managed to buy a bunch of Sony stuff on ebay as a job lot (a camera body, bunch of lenses, external flash etc). I am keeping some stuff and selling off the rest, so my house is awash with lenses at the moment, LOL, but this one is the main one I was interested in. So far I really like it. :D
  19. Just fiddling with a new (well, second hand, but new to me ;) )lens. Some dog shots Candy (those ears!!!) Freckles Candy again
  20. It's unfortunate that some people can't get over their personal prejudices, though I'm sure this is not the first time it has happened to you...sad reality of the world we live in sometimes. At least you ended up with a gorgeous little pup! ♥♥♥ Congratulations!

  22. I know they have said that, but I really don't think they know for sure. It worries me because we have a large palm tree on a neighbour's property that gets bats in it, and they drop the palm nuts into our yard...one of my dogs likes to eat the nuts. The chief vet Dr Symons, has said they don't know for sure if dogs can get it directly from bats or not...they are assuming this particular dog caught the virus from an infected horse only because the dog had access to the horses. In my mind this is a dangerous assumption; I remain unconvinced that there is no chance transmission may happen from bats to dogs, and I will be acting accordingly to try and restrict my dogs access to area of my yard where that tree is and bats congregate. If I can convince the neighbour to cut the tree down, that would be even better.
