  1. Nope, not in Qld. They are allowed to be off lead in designated areas, same as other breeds.
  2. Three of my four are not players - the other one loves her toys and waves them around in front of the others to try and entice them to play, but they just won't be in it. It's pretty funny to watch.
  3. Oh yes, we are "Mum" and "Dad", and OH's parents are "Grandma" and "Grandpa". My friend who looks after them when we go away is "Aunty Jan". :D Ziggy calls me "Mum" on his facebook page too. ;)
  4. "Hey girls! Come and get it!" Spooky alient dog!
  5. Great thread! I have some... This one is just awkward Sometimes you just click at the wrong moment... Don't bother me when I'm sleeping!
  6. Oh no! I sympathise. It is every dog owner's worst nightmare and one I went through myself only a couple of weeks ago. I would never have gotten Ziggy back if not for RSPCA's Pet D Tect service...I paid $50 for them to check all the shelters, pounds, local vets etc, and they made me this awesome poster which I printed up and plastered all over the neighbourhood - it had their phone number on it so I didn't have to post my private phone numbers all over the place....and that is how we found Ziggy. A lovely lady out walking saw him go across the road, had seen his poster and made the call and we found him...after 5 days of him living rough we got our boy back. Don't lose hope - we are all thinking of your. I hope Alvin is found soon, safe and well.
  7. Agreed...it's totally not what I meant. I worded it very badly (I blame lack of coffee). I was more meaning a bitch having endless litter after litter on every season without any thought to her physical well-being, as opposed to a well planned breeding plan.
  8. As Sway says, there are breeders and there are "breeders". Ethical breeders, whether they show or compete in some way or not, breed a small number of litters, in anticipation of being able to create a good example of their chosen breed. They socialise their pups before keeping or rehoming them. Even then, no matter how much they might want to, they may not be able to keep all the retired animals (some councils are becoming really hard to deal with on animal numbers, no matter how well they are kept). These animals are rehomed to loving and responsible families, who are open to owning an older dog. Some of us, as much as we love puppies, are not wanting to live with one and actually prefer to adopt an adult dog. There is nothing wrong with this. I personally have owned a few older adult ex show/breeding dogs and they were a source of great joy to my family and lived long and happy lives with us. The other kind of "breeder" is really just a back yard breeder, not matter how they try to dress it up. They don't do the necessary health checks, they don't really care about the betterment of the breed, they are more interested in things like which colours are more popular/will sell for more money. They often don't give their bitches a break between litters. It is a mistake to lump these two very different types of breeders together, as there is really almost no similarity between them. You have obviously found some of the other type, but the good ones are out there...you don't hear about them as often because they don't run around advertising on Facebook and Gumtree (usually)...they just quietly and calmly manage their breeding programs, for the betterment of their breed.
  9. Standard smooth is on my list of must haves one day. Had a couple when we were kids - magic little dogs they are!
  10. I went for a job interview at a doggy day care place once. I had been there about 2 minutes when I realised there was no way I would have worked in this particular place. I had never been to one before and I confess I was a bit shocked at the way it was run. I am sure there are good ones out there...this just wasn't one of them. I do think it is an industry that urgently needs some form of regulation.
  11. Spectacular looking animals; great pictures...love the action shots!
  12. Just thought I would share a few pictures of pugs that I took at a friend's place. I love photographing pugs - they have such expressive little faces...
  13. Hi! Instead, how about I decide where I spend and/or donate my own hard earned money. And maybe I want to do both...buy some (not useless) items for my dog family, and friends dogs too, in addition to making some donations. Kool? Thanx! :D
  14. Pearl on the day of birth... Cheeky at 3 months... Still cheeky today...
  15. Candy when she was born... At about 2 months... All grown up...
  16. My (nearly) 6 year olds haven't been vaccinated since they were 3, the 11 year old's last vacc was when she was about 5 and the 9 year old was vacced just before I got her last year, and won't be again in her lifetime.
  17. I've put it up on my facebook too. I sure hope she is found safe and well soon.
  18. Like many here, my user name comes from one of my dogs. My first greyhound, Ernie, had the racing name of "New Age Outlaw". ;)
