  1. If she is due to be desexed you may be able to get it done under the same GA and save a bit of money.
  2. Just a slight detour of your thread. How much does this cutie look like your foster? Sounds like he is getting desperate. http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=82663
  3. I once had a rough collie with a lab and lab / kelpie. We lived on a property and the collie loved the chasey games and tug play with them but not too much of the rough stuff. He was top dog so a little growl from him would have the other 2 leave him alone. He was also the older dog and had been an only dog untill around 5 yrs. I personally wouldn't put a collie with a boisterous dog like a staffy. My boy was such a gentle soul. I actually think a smaller dog like a cocker or cavie would be a good choice. My collie was very gentle with smaller animals especially cats. Thats my opinion from the one collie I had.
  4. How is Harvey today? He's probably fine while you are still a mess. Did he do it deliberately to scare the S!*# out of you?
  5. K9 suggested this: Put a lead on the dog when visitors come and put your foot on the lead so the dog can't jump - then be consistent. Do it every time and reward when the dog is calm and not jumping.
  6. I'd let the neighbours know that the council officer told you to trap the cat - stray cat?
  7. When we lived in Derby (in WA pretty well straight across from Cairns) our BC would get into the bottom of our drinks fridge to cool down-she could get out herself but we had to check that she didn't fall asleep and stay in too long!
  8. I know you said worming was up to date so I assume he is on heartworm prevention. It's just that heartworm prevention is usually separate to the other worming medication and if you are new to dogs or dogs in heartworm territory then you might not know about it. Ask if you have any queries or ignore this post if heartworm is under control.
  9. Sorry didn't see you Risyntira and I was trying to check out the people without dogs competing or did your dogs compete? I even asked a couple of spectators. It's quite different to throwing a ball in the backyard. Your photos are fantastic. The freestyle was fun to watch and molasseslass your dogs are brilliant.
  10. I don't believe this - it is pouring rain. Probably the most rain since disc was cancelled last time I had the Sunday off to go!
  11. I was told by an old bushy to spray fly spray or metho onto the tick-wait a minute or two and then gently lever it off. I have never asked a vet about this and wonder if anyone else uses this. I prefer to use the metho and the fly spray only when I'm without metho. Then I watch the dog like a hawke for the next 12 hrs or so and if he was to be wobbly in the legs would take him to the vet. Its never got that far. I use preventix collars and used to use frontline but have changed to advantix. I was finding ticks with frontline.
  12. No haven't made it yet. I took a Sunday off work earlier this year but the event was cancelled because of rain-probably the last time we had real rain!

There are probably people who advertise as dog walkers so check thses people out. Here they are more likely to advertise in the local paper. They may be able to come to your house and exercise your dog for a set period of time each day or whatever.
  15. I've had dogs with scratched eyes and it is not normally hard to treat. Once it was just drops and another time the eyelid was sewn together for I think around 7-10 days. He had to wear an e-collar though as he kept scratching his eye. There were no permanent problems. Best wishes for a healthy dog tonight.
  16. It all boils down to personality IMO. When we lived on acreage that wasn't fenced our BC never left the property without us. This dog would run the boundary at football/cricket games and never cross the chalk-unless told to. He always seemed to know the boundaries and respected them. But I've had other dogs who would take the opportunity to tour if the opportunity arose. All my dogs have had similar love, training and attention but their personalities have been different.
  17. I think I've used every "piss off" product on the mafket and I haven't had any luck with them. If you are planting trees put a wire guard or fence around them. A new garden may need to be fenced also. In summer dogs will often dig a hole to cool off in so let the dog have their own area. They love manure and blood and bone so will nearly always dig where this is fresh. Great ideas about giving the pup it's own sand pit and wading pool. Good Luck.
  18. Yes you do ahve to be stern with puppies sometimes but with the traffic thing don't be stern or tell her no. Just ignore her behaviour. Hopefully that tells her that the traffiic is not a problem-it doesn't worry you-it's a non event. When you leave to come home try to do it when she isn't reacting. You might have to wat for a break in the traffic when she isn't scared.
  19. Do take her for little walks to get her used to the traffic noise etc. Maybe go and sit on a street bench and ignore her if she fusses over the trucks. Just make sure she is saftely on a lead.Do this for a little time a lot of times and she will learn not to worry about the traffic noise. Can't comment on her "last night behaviour" but maybe it won't happen again. She looks like a beautiful pup.
  20. When I lived near Albury the Hume Weir was great. I had a kayak and my curly used to swim after it. There wasn't room for her on that but when she got on other boats she would jump over if we weren't going fast. She could swim all day so it wasn't a problem but sometimes I would put her on a lead in a boat if I didn't want her overboard. She loved boats. I also had a kelpie who would not go anywhere near a boat . It didn't matter if it was in the water or not. If you carried him into a boat he had to be on lead and held very tight.
  21. As an easy exercise I would make sure the dog eats after the family. If it's not possible after a meal let the dog see the children all eat something-even a bit of carrot- before he is fed. The kids probably love feeding the pup bits of their own food, biscuits etc. I can imagine the pup doing rather "naughty" things and still being given food from the kids. I had 4 boys 4yrs apart and know this goes on unless your really careful. It will become a competition between the children to see who can get the pups attention. Let the parents know that this shouldn't happen
