Hi Catherine if you do a search within this forum you will find many posts like yours? It's completely normal. Your pup is scared and lonely. He has never been away from his Mum and his brothers and sisters before, new house, new smells and he no doubt just wants to be reassured and snuggle up to something warm and breathing. You will find we all have different opinions here, but my own opinion is to pop your puppy in to bed with you and then as he gets older wean him off to the laundry. At 8weeks he is still very much a baby. You could also buy a crate (A Godsend!) and keep him in his crate next to your bed. They find it reassuring to know you're so close and barely make a whimper as they are not alone. I'm not a fan of letting them cry for nights alone until they stop :p It's a bit soul destroying IMO. Do you have someone coming to spend time with him during the day while you're at work? He should still be on 3-4 feeds I would have thought. A pup left alone for long periods more often than not develops boredom issues. At his age he needs a fair bit of hands on time and company to grow in to a well adjusted adult. It's a big ask to leave an 8week at home alone all day. Welcome to DOL and puppy pics are mandatory, I love Cockers! :D

FRom memory Clipperworld had the best price for Verplanks books.

I use an electric collar system to keep the dogs off the garden bed and mulch areas. This works for one dog only as the other still goes through, plus if collar left on the Rott, the Staff chews it for him. I bought a clam shell, and no interest whatsoever. I put treats in it and Stafford jumped in and dug out the treats and will now maim any other pet going near *her* clam shell as she associates it with food Had to pack it up and put it away. So no solution, I just keep re turfing the dug up parts.

Evening Primrose Oil. As far as I know, Aloveen has a higher colloidal suspension than Episoothe so apparently more soothing out of the two. I've definitely found Aloveen to work better than Episoothe.

I'm currently using Aloveen on Gertie the itchy Shihtzu. I'm wondering if anyone here has made the switch and found the vet grade EPO a superior product? Gertie is in the finanical queue to have intradermal (sp?) testing done but we also have to complete our food trial for which we fell off the wagon and have to start again In the meantime I'm hoping the EPO might give her even the slightest little bit more relief in conjunction with her 2nd attempt of antihistamines. Thanks in advance.

I've found it useless, but some people love it! I think Advantage is a much better flea control.

Ok, thanks guys - that's a No from us

I also believe that a dogs ear is self cleaning. I don't clean my clients dogs ears unless they are excessive. I had alot of dogs come to me with terrible ears and since then they've had no problems. People go over the top. As a maintenance I just use Malaseb and water, however I don't flush the ear. I just gently wipe with a cotton ball.

So maybe a bit fatty? I have trouble keeping George a good weight. He's very active but gets fat easily or either he is too thin. (I do like a thinner dog though!). He's very much in 'working condition' but I'm thinking he should go off the EP light which he has been on for yonks as I was reading the Light should just be an interim diet. He's 38kgs, once he hits 40 he looks fat It's hard to get a happy medium with him and lately I've had a few comments that he looks too thin. When he's thin he does *look* thin, but his arthritis doesn't bother him and his coat is lovely and shiny.

I just bought some back up scissors which I'm pleased with considering the price. From here: http://allscissorsrus.webs.com/petgroomingscissors.htm

Would someone mind giving me a rundown of this food please? I'm not good at knowing what is great and what is not. I usually just try food I see recommended on here and see how it suits the dogs. Have just seen both these foods recommended in other threads. I'm wondering if it is such a good food, why is it so cheap? Or does it have alot of fillers? I've got a bag of Fresh Mix Maximal grain free Dog Formula coming today. George's poo hasnt been great the last few months on Eagle Pack and he's been getting a few hot spots. But the price of the Artemis was a bit of a killer with 4 other pets to buy for aswell. He's done well on the EP up until now, and Esme is doing well on the EP puppy.

Sure thing, will post back in a week or so.

I'm not happy with George's poo on Eagle Pack either. Have just bought a bag of Artemis. Will be interested to see how he goes.

Yes, they are. Stinky things though

AFAIK that only leaves you with Proban in terms of efficacy. I buy mine from vetnpetdirect, much cheaper. Always start it before travelling as it takes some time to work.

Are you letting Malaseb sit in there for ten minutes rather than wiping on/off? Maybe you're interfering too much? The breeder where I got my old girl didn't ever wipe her dogs, she believed once you started mucking around with them that's when you get issues. I'm sure that's not always the case but do have to say that my girl didn't have fold issues. Maybe she was just lucky. Poor dog, hopefully someone in the breed thread Disorder linked to can help you further.

Must be something going on on your end Midol, because I can say with certainty that my dogs do not smell 'doggy'.

Does anyone have any good links or cheap books they could show the OP about basic training? SydKing, a puppy is so much hard work and a bull breed even more so, so use the Puppy Forum and Training Forum to your advantage I highly recommend buying your pup alot of toys. You can do a forum search on 'chew toys' and heaps of ideas should come up. Kongs and Buddy Bones are a great start

Should have thought about that before you bought a Pitbull. You are going to have to make sure your property is like Fort Knox. Not only from her breaking out but also dickheads breaking in to steal your dog.

I find the shorter the coat the easier it is to get dribble. The Stafford pretty much always gets a wet patch which attracts dirt but the Rotti you couldn't tell. I also make the dogs stand with me for a while. If they go and lie down it often trickles. The dogs know the drill, I stand over them for some time ensuring they stand still as I worry it might dribble and a cat come along. Re the reaction, I would call Bayer. They are super helpful and more often than not have you speak to their own vet. They may even give you a refund.
-
That's just impatient application. If you put it on slowly and not overload the one spot you shouldn't even notice it on. The area often knots there as dirt/grime/debris are attracted to the oilyness of that spot. If you believe your dogs have had a reaction albeit small, I would definitely not use it again. Reactions usually get worse.

Just send the relevant microchip form to your local council. Your vet receptionist should help you.

I'd be concerned about the cooked bones but not the quantity. One chook carcass isn't a great deal for a Cattle X so I wouldn't bother fasting. My 38kg male will eat a couple of them in one hit no problems. Come to think of it my pup eats a whole carcarss in one hit too. The cooked bones would definitely make me wary though. I'd be more inclined to give something which might help make a smooth 'exit'. Best bet, call your vet!

How To Avoid Dogs Becoming 'collar Smart'
Clyde replied to WildatHeart's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would be careful about sharing info in regards to your containment system. As far as I am aware, they are only legal if used in conjunction with a 1.5 metre fence. My Rotti goes straight through ours to bark at any dogs walking past on the other side of the fence, he has no qualms doing it so I wouldn't rely on it to stop your dog chasing livestock.
