  1. What about a containment system? Although without an existing fence I dont know if I would rely on it. I agree with RSG, I woudnt rely on star pickets home made fence either. It's just not worth the risk and having large dogs they might go stock chasing which is the end of your dogs.
  2. I like them Prestige pet do a zip up vest. I bought one for my Stafford but it's too small, but I like the ease of putting them on etc. Prestige Pets ones are too expensive too. I would buy one, but only like plain colours if there is a choice. Do a Facebook page, this time of year you should get quite a few orders.
  3. Try adding some natural yogurt to her diet - it really helps with the gas!
  4. I've had brilliant results with acupuncture and trigger point therapy.
  5. I like Lovebird collars and Ruthless Leather. That's all I use now.
  6. Same, and when visitors are staying I am constantly singing out Shut the doorrrrrr - as the cats immediately make a beeline for what is out of bounds.
  7. I miss white too I have Persians and two of them have eyes which leak a reddish brown colour and it stains. Ive now resigned myself to darker colours and patterns.
  8. :) I can see Ralph thinking 'you're an idiot Simon'.
  9. I just heard on the news that a pitbull was stabbed to death in Sydney last night/today
  10. Welcome to the forums. Would love to see a photo of your new baby I agree with Nekhbet that your puppy could be outside during the day. I would also phone around and find a vet who offers the Nobivac vaccine so your pup can be vaccinated now and ready to venture out in 2 weeks for early socialisation. Just make sure your older dog can cope with a new puppy bouncing around all day. Good luck ;)
  11. Pyohex is treatment where infections are present, I wouldn't go near it in this instance. I would try a soothing shampoo such as Aloveen or similar. Even if Aloveen didn't work I would still try another soothing shampoo with totally different ingredients. There is also Aloveen Leave In treatment which is very soothing and will help with the flaking.
  12. My family culled (working Kelpies) at birth. What we didn't want to keep or already have homes for were humanely disposed of immediately. Older pups/dogs who didn't work out were shot. In a farmers eyes it is cheaper to use a bullet than travel how many km's and pay a vet to do the same job. Dogs were tied to a tree with a bone and shot without a clue what was coming. For many farmers dogs are a tool, once a work tool starts to become expensive or cost a farmer money then it's no longer viable for them. We were considered 'soft' on our dogs as we didn't shoot dogs once they grew too old to work - they stayed with us until they died of natural causes out of respect for the work they did (they earned their keep). I still remember getting attached to the odd dog and coming home from boarding school holidays only to find the dog 'gone' My brother had to shoot his own beloved Kelpie after 12 yrs, it was devastating for him - sadly he has never treated a dog too nicely ever since as I know it broke his heart. I don't condone it but life on the land is cruel and I think a lot of city folk just don't understand that, or as Persephone said they are a 'product of past generations' and don't know any different. I think drowning is an awful way to dispose of a dog though - some farmers would honestly weigh up the cost of a bullet so it sounds like this his reasoning. Awful for pups to be drowned.
  13. It's something to do with the shrinking or expanding of the follicles.
  14. I think he looks jealous and pissed off! Great shot.
  15. I agree. I'm sorry Deelee I think you're sweetheart but I don't understand people who need to take their dogs everywhere. I wouldn't dream of taking my dog to a non dog persons house . I have friends who want to bring their dogs when they visit or come and stay and I always say no. It's make me feel uncomfortable saying no and Im sure it irritates them somewhat but it upsets the balance with my other pets and I dont want to run the risk of someone elses dog chewing or toileting inside etc. I minded a friends Pug recently - 100% toilet trained at his home but unbeknown to any of us he spent the weekend decorating my curtains . And because I dont want other peoples dogs here my weekend is not as relaxed which seems pretty unfair IMO.
  16. Ah! I hadn't thought of that, very good point Ams.
  17. Can you take her to puppy pre school to equip you with skills on how to handle naughty behaviour? I seem to recall you saying you had foster kids on their way? A large breed puppy will bounce all over them and nip at their hands and face if you're not on to it. I am so pleased she pulled through - She's a special 'little' girl.
  18. COntact all the vet clinics in the area. If you're good enough most of them jump at the chance if they aren't already offering it.
  19. :p Try contacting any breeders on the DOL Breeder Listings. Fab little dogs if you like them with attitude and spark!
  20. Most of mine were from people whose dog had a close brush with death from a tick. They get shaved at the vet and the owners love the hairless option due to finding ticks with more ease plus a lot less shedding. I think vets could do with a bit more education on grooming and coats. I know plenty of vets who will recommend clipping coats to' keep dogs cool in summer.'
