  1. Patrick ;) That's the name... CavsRcute - Oh - if only these cavs were easy to look after *rofl*
  2. Rappie - it was a young guy who had an interest in Dermatology?? Short lil' fellow ;) Dru - I will mention to Ally about Mark too Rosalie certainly did like to talk and talk about skin... she was very thorough!!
  3. Rappie, Thanks for the link ;) We are about to go to the shops to try and find something for Mika to eat... LOL. We are to take her off chicken... Preferably lamb and beef too.. (not that she is on those at the moment). We have to avoid fish because she has had contact with a fair bit of fish and we have to find a cat food that fits into this new lot of info too in case she nibbles on that. On the upside - it is not a flea allergy (though she does react to the fleas)... it is not mites, but we are treating for scabies anyways just to be certain... she had skin scrapings today (no vet had done a skin scraping before today!!) and nothing other than infection showed up.... Poor thing had to have a hot spot shaved - she did not like that!! I could have hugged the vet today though... she was so brilliant... (We also have the sydney uni number ready in case we need to see the dermatologist there who was also recommended... as a side note: we saw a vet student at the open day who gave us more info in 15 minutes, than the regular vet we saw had ever given us - they teach you lot well ) Now we just need to work out the best way to help Mika... *nervous wreck*
  4. Mika finally got into see the vet we wanted her to see today (Rosalie at Gladesville Vets - Thanks for the references Dru!!). We got more out of one vet today than we have out of any vet previously. Mika's one staple in her diet has been chicken, as we thought that she was allergic to beef, but after a huge change in her the last six weeks things have gone nuts. Rosalie thinks that Mika might be allergic to chicken... We are to try and elimination diet -starting with food she has not had in ages.... Possibly lamb, roo, buffalo, turkey or anything else that is not Beef or Chicken at this stage. She said more veggies too, and no gluten (pasta or rice in case she is allergic to that too).... Does anyone have any sites I can look at about food intolerances/allergies?? Apparently chicken is a common food to be allergic to...! Mika unfortunately has broken out in a massive hot spot, and has infectious skin that is now being treated by antibiotics, steroids, medicated washes, revolution and other spot ons, as well as aloveen. Rosalie is wanting us to basically bombard her system and over throw it because it is fighting too hard... This has been 18 months of different vets and different treatments that we have tried. However Rosalie told us more today, than any of the vets put together... We will be going to Gladesville vets from now on... Not only were they sympathetic to a wailing dog (Mika was screaming), but they explained everything to us in detail, as well as being affordable. I'll be recommending them to everyone from now on.
  5. Is it possible that this person is from the states (Houston?)... Does their Kennel Club differ to the aussie one? IE: does NOT have rules as to when the pups are sold
  6. Am thinking of you chica... keep us up to date
  7. Mel - as far as I was aware a lot of dog dry food has soy in it as the main source of protein...??? Not that I have researched lots I use Natural Balance now as chicken and brown rice are the top ingredients... not any by products (like other foods)....
  8. I personally find supercoat stinky... And have walked many dogs that stink if fed on it.... That said, not all dogs react the same way.... Could you try her on Optimum?
  9. Thanks for that Larry. I found out recently most premium dry dog foods are made in the states... We try to limit how much lamb the dogs get - due to allergies. The stuff that we feed is all certified organic... (so the living conditions of the animals are a lot higher than just any old chook) but thanks for the link
  10. The thing that totally irks me about Thomsons is that you believe you are getting an SOA in "Animal Care" or "XXX Course" however, in actually fact you are just getting a basic SOA in business studies, with some lovey dovey material about the "interest area" to make it sound great... It sucks when you think you are getting something of value, only to find you already have that qualification.... :grr:
  11. mmmm... maybe we are talking about different stuff?
  12. yeah.. it makes you wonder if they are banning the 6 month one in the states, why we are still allowed to use the 12 month one... having said that, I think the AVA is reviewing it??
  13. oh cool - they were not sure if it would be on it or not when I bought it... so will have to check it out next time I go.
  14. I buy it from the Pet Warehouse in Alexandria
  15. New balance? or Natural Balance (or natures balance)... whichever it is.. I feed it... the organic chicken based dry food with no soy protein added... my dogs love it and do well on it... and it is competetive to other deluxe dog foods in price.
  16. back home in vic, there is a stretch of road where the roos cross each morning and arvo. they are a huge pest there, and most people know to be careful driving... but so many get hit. Driving one day we found a roo who had just been hit, his back was broken and he was in pain and stress. We drove to the nearest farmer's house, knocked on the door and asked if he had a gun, could he go and put the roo out of its misery.. He said it must have only just been hit, as he had already "Done the morning run" where he goes along and puts all of the roos out of their misery after the morning trucks have gone through... Its illegal for him to do so - RSPCA would have him up on charges for animal cruelty and he has been warned before - but tell me what is worse... having someone come along and shoot an animal that has no hope and dies instantly... or calling up the RSPCA/Vet to wait over an hour or two for someone to come and give it a needle. give me the bullet any day...
  17. Mika and Gilbert (who is smaller than a standard crestie and only has five teeth) are fed Barf Patties (the BARF Brand ones), as well as Natures Balance Organic Dog food (Dry but mixed into their pattie), as well as chicken necks and occasionally wings. The necks are given to Mika Frozen, gilbert has them fresh, but often just whoofs them down so I give him th ebigger ones to make him chew. He does not like the wings... I freeze lumps of necks together (three or five in bunch) and mika chews them - and adores them - and it keeps her occupied for ages.. :D Gilbert eats more than what Mika Does... :D
  18. When he is being given his wings by the vet, give him something yummy to eat that he's normally not allowed to have... he'll go off to la la land, the happiest boy - with his family, being spoilt rotten. thinking of you
