This is a bit of a late addition to this topic. It is my first foray into the Dogz On Line forums. I had to wait for registration to go through, then, of course, I had to go to work, etc etc.

I am delighted to say the beautiful (my opinion) German Shorthaired Pointer is my boy Doc aka Fenrik Fremantle Doctor ADM ADO JDM JDO SDX GDX SPDX, and he does have a profile on dogz on line. There were quite a few people who asked our Dock Diving. I thought it would be useful to let people know there is a little bit about dock diving on my own webstie http://www.caninefunsports.com.au and you will also find links to the american site, and a link to a utube video of our guys at practice. I must admit that the video is one of Doc's poorer jumps - I was a bit crooked with my ball throw!

I am really looking forward to being part of the World Dog Games.

Hi Le!

Hi Ruth,

I thought we might switch this topic a bit and actually ask about the photos you have taken (being a very amateur specialist photographer, myself.) Read that as a photographer who takes only action shots (agility) in good light. How did you you get such great shots in such poor lighting. What settings did you use, and / or were they photo-shopped?

Of course - only if this does not give up any trade secrets.

I shoot RAW, so everything's processed on the computer. I was in manual mode, ISO1600, f2, from 1/2000 – 1/3200sec. AI servo, only one centre focus point, burst mode.

It was my second time shooting there. The first time there weren't many keepers as it was a really dark day. It was quite a bit brighter last week, so that helped. It's not a nice place to try and get a photo, that's for sure!!

Can't disagree with the comments about the lighting. As I said, I am very much self taught beginner - but if I understand the above, my lense will only get to a f4, although I was able to set the ISO at 3200. Still, I did not seem to have enough light to get a decent shot. Ho hum. I save as jpeg, but really don't know how to use raw images. I think it is about time I did a course at tech.

The 50mm f1.8 is a good lens if you want something a bit faster. Only about $130 I think. Or the 50mm f1.4, if you have a bit more to spend. It'd only really be long enough for dogs dock diving where you can stand right by the action. For agility you'd need something longer. It's great for portraits too though. Polo's owner is pretty handy with a camera, get her to give you some lessons

I have just spent big on the new camera body, so it will be a while before I upgrade the lens. But agility is my main interest (this is an understatement!) Lara and I often exchange photos - I'm not too bad at the agility photography - just when I get out of that element I do not have the practice.

PS I look forward to everyone coming up and saying hi at the world dog games. Final selection trial is tomorrow, so we will see how we go. Doc loves the sport, so we really hope se make the team.

Go Chopper!

I love how some of the dogs seem to have a real "technique" while others I'm just looking at them thinking "thats so going to hurt when they belly bust into the water". ;)

I bet thats something an amstaff would be good at (if they weren't a big sook like Diesel) because they have the springiest back legs ever.

The mock comp was held yesterday to pick the team for the World Dog Games. Chopper didn't make the team, but I wasn't in the slightest bit surprised or disappointed! He's had fun training for the last few weeks, but he wasn't jumping anywhere near as far as the bigger dogs and he was too big too be classed as a small dog. We got two free tickets to go to the games, which means we can actually enjoy our weekend and not have the whingy one hanging out of us for two days!! Apparently he's on the Dock Dogs team, but they were only allowed have 12 dogs for the games. He might get to perform at demos and the Royal if we keep it up.

Here's a few pics from yesterday. Since I already had so many side on photos I decided to stand at the end of the pool. It was heaps harder to get a decent pic though.

He doesn't like the water getting in his ears, so he always strains to keep his head out of the water when he jumps! :(

People were encouraged to do tricks with their dogs on the dock before they jumped

Maybe "dancing with dogs" would be Chopper's thing, he seems to have the moves!

Great photos! I think any dog that likes to fetch and swim can do it

Is anyone doing the vertical jumps, Ruth?? It's my fav!! I have a YouTube buddy who introduced it to me about a month ago.

No, not this time. Maybe they'll bring it in eventually.

It'd be good to see an Amstaff doing it. They're going to keep training in Windsor after the games if anyone's interested in getting involved.

I'm interested! I just need to make sure Esme can swim first.........

:) I'm the same with Angel, I'd love to try her, but I bet she'd sink like a stone!!
