She is still knuckling over and not using her back leggs at all- I am holding her rear end up and making her walk on her front legs abit, then placing her rear legs on the ground in a confortable position and supporting her so she doesn't fall over- letting her put abit of weight on them, but they just bend and she begins to fall if I am not there to hold her up. CrazyCresties Posted November 15, 2011 Share Posted November 15, 2011 Crazy Cresties dogs that are picked up by the ranger legally have 72 hours if No ID, if ID or chip of sorts they have a minimum 7 days, some rescue groups pick the ones they think may be viable to rehome, give them a call they may have it but not listed, and, tell your great aunt to be careful, if you feed and care for a dog YOU are deemed to be in care and control of that dog and can be liable for anything the dog does ( Ie Dog Attack etc) This is also the case when looking after other peoples dogs ( unless contracts are signed, YES, the law can be an ass sometimes, I KNOW after working with the ASS and associated assholes over the years! She knows she can't have him, but she didn't tell me she had him there for 3 weeks I'm not going to say anything to her unless I see him on a rescue site. Faolmor Posted November 15, 2011 Share Posted November 15, 2011 MG I believe that Steve is a bit of a lab specialist, but he is generally just a very good diagnostic vet. He helped Faolmor with her lab at one point as he injured himself quite young. What sort of an injury?? He leapt off a wall and landed heavily on his right front. Turned his elbow cartilege into a serrated mess. The first vets we saw were all for operating blah blah. Metcalfe said it was ridiculous, as the serrated cartilege would be smoothed out over time - which it was. MG, could Gibbs have panoesteitis? Are you sure he's always limping on the same leg? Zep (our Lab) also had this. They grow out of it, but it can last throughout puppyhood and is common in large-breed puppies. It's basically irregular calcification of the long bones as they grow, causing pressure and pain (kind of like if you kick your shins on a table). No I'm afraid it's always the same leg that he limps on, I'm beginning to think maybe I should take him to Applecross but then I do trust my vet and should maybe let him do the X-rays, I'm just very confused ATM. Good diagnostic x-rays do depend on a number of things...appropriate sedation and subsequent placement of the dog, ability of the vet to interpret the results for example. If you trust your vet, go ahead. You can always take the x-rays to Applecross for a second opinion, just for peace of mind I wish Gibbs - and you! - all the best, too. There's nothing worse than a limping dog and no diagnosis (or waiting for a diagnosis). We had a hell of a time with Zep, because he really had two different things wrong. It took a good vet with the ability to think for himself to diagnose Zep, and to offer appropriate treatment options. I'm also waiting for the radiologist to phone me back from PVE to hear if we decided to o for an MRI how much it would be., although my vet feels X-rays shod be sufficient. Here is a video of another Boxer with FCE just like Bondi- seems to be just as bad as Bon is at the start (although he has a cathater (sp?_) luckily Bon doesn't need one of them yet) But at the end is up and running! This Boxer probably doesn't have spondylosis aswell as an FCE though, and that is a concern, but Bondi has coped with spondylosis all her life by the looks of it and been very happy- about 6 weeks ago she was running around at the park with Booker and you wouldn;t know she had anything wrong- she is a trooper, so I'm optimistic we can get her though this. I was going through my doggy stuff today and have a few decent check chains that are too big, or small for my guys that I thought I might give away........but I want to measure them properly I found only one that is the right size for the ridgy!!! Boxagirl, what a lovely video, that Boxer made an amazing recovery, I never thought it would have been possible. What's the best avenue for a dog who was refusing weavers in agility and developed a limp the next day - acupuncture or bowen? I'm thinking bowen but not sure as I have't used either before. Lab_Rat Posted November 16, 2011 Author Share Posted November 16, 2011 I got a Thundershirt for Zola while I was at Equitana last week......Just trying it out this morning Zola spied a bobtail outside the front door and started with her usual jumping around and vocalising about it so I put her on a lead and got her to sit by me for ten minutes.....then suddenly remembered I had the Thundershirt So I strapped it on and now she is sitting at the window calmly & quietly watching :D Dunno if its the shirt or not, but we have a vet visit next week, so she will be wearing then as well!! So does anyone want or need a long check chain?? They are 17" or 20" (about 44cm or 51cm).
