Hmmm at the moment RS she is a walking mess to the extent where she is struggling after 20 min of leash walking :( - not sure but the hard part is where do you draw a line at there being a difference. She is an athletic dog who needs a job to do to keep her out of trouble. I have never had to life with so much destruction at home since she hasn't been training.

She is much to young to be a lame pet. Her age is a factor if she were older I might just throw in the towel.

She also does not enjoy being a "pet". You would think after all this time she would show no motivation to train because she has had no reinforcement for doing so in ages. I still get prancy heelwork thrown at me on a walk and its not lessened if anything its increased in intensity.

so sorry to hear that ... hopefully any future ops will actually improve her condition. The confinement ahead must seem so daunting, but if all goes well you may yet look back in 6 months and say "thankfully I did all that because now she is awesome!".

Fingers crossed for her/you.

Good timing Emery definitely :) We are currently hoping Jive isn't coming into season already... but would prefer that to her waiting until the Royal

RnH, it is ACWA :)

Yes well i had planned on mating her daughter on her next season so i am hoping she doesn't come in early as the timing is so not right so it wont be done she is due beginning of OCtober so bet you she will be in for the royal and i will be sending her eastward lol.

ST i will take some tomorrow on my phone and try figure out how to resize them for you. We basically pruned the trees but left enough for shelter. There is a walkway of pavers straight down the centre we are going to pave more just gotta find the time as the rest is dirt. At the end we screwed a pole into the house and one cemented in on the other side which is what we have attached the homemade gate which is basically a frame knocked together with a piece of tin that we have banged the top over so they can't cut themselves. We will be putting lattice on top of the gate to extend it in height and i need to put their kennel and buy them some trampoline beds to put in there but i think they approve :)

I have a favour to ask - can you guys all please cross fingers for Kenz. The situation as it stands may mean further surgery and another zillion weeks further confinement. She doesn't seem to be able to take a trick so please guys fingers crossed the situation improves soon :(. I am utterly devastated and heart broken that my little ever ready bunny may have to go through everything she has already been through starting from scratch.

 - poor girl all she wants is some sort of life back and a chance to do what any young BC should be able to and that is run free and do things without endless worry as to whether she may be sore :(.

Oh ness - so sorry to hear about Kenz. Thinking of you guys. It seems to have been the month for bad dog news.

I hope you guys get to the bottom of her soreness and can treat it effectively.

Loved seeing all your videos, thanks for sharing. It must be so difficult to be doing so well and then have to stop and see your dog confined for soooo long. I was not competing, nor would we ever have won anything, but Rosie loved going out to training and i liked having an outlet for myself that was just for me. Giving it up has been a bit sad for me, but being winter has made it very easy to just stay home and not feel like I am missing out too much!

Rosie had her follow up apt last week and we were told to keep doing the same thing but drop the anti-inflammatories and then build up the walking to 25 mins on leash with 5 mins of off leash and see what happens. Well today was the day she got her off leash time and the sight of her bounding with so much joy in her little pointy face will stay with me for a long time. She was so happy I *might* have extended the 5 mins a little bit . I am not sure if dogs can grin, but she sure looked like it LOL

Ness I don't mean to make you feel worse or anything by posting that, I have been told Rosie will carry her injury forever as it will not heal in the joint capsule by itself and so we are changing alot of things in her dog activities to avoid surgery as the success rate is not that great and he cannot even do arthroscopy first as she is too fine. So for us it is a case of trying to give her fun and a good life as a pet, but remove lots of things she really loved and lived for :( ... like retrieving anything that moved... LOL. I am just hoping we can manage it and still maintain her zest for life.

After a couple of days assessing whether the off leash activity has hurt her or not, I will remove her confined area and give her the run of the backyard again. Can't wait. :)

argh dogs, and I thought horses were bad!

Tumbleweed - specialist just feels he could have done a better job with stabilizing the patella if he had adopted a more aggressive approach. :(.

Sorry to butt in.... but Ness I hope he's not charging you for any further surgery then!

What an absolute pain. I'm sure the thought 'couldn't you have got it right the first time!' crossed your mind.

But on the upside, maybe this further surgery will be best for Kenz in the long run...and I guess it isn't necessarily a bad thing the specialist didn't go in 'too agressively' the first time.

Best of luck with it all. Please let us know how you (and Kenz of course) are travelling

Yes and No MG the problem I have is I do somewhat appreciate and understand he went for the most conservative approach first off. I guess hindsight is one thing and I trust the judgement he made on the day of surgery. He does seem genuinely concerned that Kenz is having quite so many issues with things still. I admit some of what I am seeing may well be because she has been on and off lame for so long and it may well be quite subtle. To his credit he is prepared to be quite open about things and work with me to get her back right and trust my judgement that things aren't going well rather than just go on what he can see and feel.

Reluxation was one of the possible complications and while it may not normally cause a problem, I gather some of his concern is due to her being an active dog and him wanting to make sure she has every chance to live the life she wants to without problems further down the track.

The some of why she is worse may just be muscular soreness and part and parcel of recovery. You can't have that much muscle wastage and expect to have the same level of fitness you had pre-surgery. Kenz has always been an exceedingly fit dog and we were pretty strict with the confinement side of things and so these things still take time to improve.

My surgeon was also going to go the conservative route but once he opened Gibbs up he said he could see how nuch worse it was and that he needed to cut the ulna. I can see your surgeons point of view etc but i wouldnt let him operate ob my dog again but we all feel differently about things.

I am not to inclined to let anybody operate on her again - not just the one who did the surgery the first time. It would have to take some pretty hard convincing that it was the best thing for her to put her through it again anytime soon. :(.

Yeah i can imagine how frustrated you are! I know its a different problem but Mason was a bit like Kenz, nothing i did for him allergy wise worked for him for ages. It was a lot of trial and error and i felt helpless and like giving up lots of times. I kept trying and now he is so much better than he was.

Gosh Ness, thats awful, I feel for you.

It has to be so tough having to weigh up the pro's and con's of what path you take with Kenz. Damned if you do, damned if you dont, so hard to decide what to do

Lucky Kenz having an owner who is so tuned in and cares so much. Take care of yourself as well while you look after her xoxo
