St Kilda Beach Tonight - So Gross!

So its very *insert expletive here* hot in Melbourne and I went with the dogs to St Kilda dog beach It stank, it was rank - so gross. someone told me they dump some crap in the bay near there - could that be true? I don;t understand how a beach can smell like sewerage like that. It was beyond gross. I went there a few weeks back and it was glorious, the water was clear, the sand was ok - how can the same beach be so different today?

Does anyone know what the story is with St Kilda Beach? I know it was low tied and there were jelly fish around - I understand that, its natural, but the smell was just awful - and though they are not pleasant it certainly was not the jellyfish!!

I was told that the excrement from cruise liners was dumped there intermittently. I can imagine that it would be quite rank if that was the case.

I used to live in that area around 12 years ago. We would walk wag school and walk down to the beach during the days in summer

It stank then too... yes, like sewerage! Don't know why though?

Yup I know that smell well! Some days it is seriously feral. No idea why.

We go to Brighton dog beach instead now.

remember the ocean is alive - low tide exposes all manner of plants, dead creatures to oxygen and bacteria who thrive in warm weather

its probably the ocean cleaning itself up. It can reek, they all do time to time

Rotting seaweed can produce a horrendous stench..
