Newfymum Posted August 29, 2013 Author Share Posted August 29, 2013 Yup totally get where your coming from... if I don't feed her though she carries on a treat jumps all over everyone and runs back and forth to the kitchen and yes this activity causes bloating... have tried crating her but she just gets herself all upset and breaks out... if she comes to work with me (at vet) she doesn't bloat as she is in a cage all day and I can feed her all day... another reason I think its activity based...Or anxiety... originally she would only do it when I got home from work 2 hours after feeding. there are so many little things but just cant find the answer so we can help. She had a barium xray and that all went through normally the only odd part was that her stomach was already full of gas before she was fed.. she wasn't bloated at the time. WeimMe Posted August 30, 2013 Share Posted August 30, 2013 My dog bloated last year. I thought it was the end of her, the vet certainly didn't hold out much hope. I do think anxiety can be a trigger as I am fairly certain that it was the main contributing factor in my dogs case as we had a stranger in the house for over an hour and she was going beserk outside trying to get in for the entire time. I normally would have her inside, she'd sniff the guest and content herself that all was well and relax but he was Sri Lankan and uncomfortable with dogs (maybe a cultural thing?) so to be polite I locked her out. Next time he'll have to deal with it. The vet told me that she would almost certainly bloat agin within weeks but she has been OK so far, touch wood. I feed her 4 small meals a day and try to keep her stress down as much as possible. I think she is more gassy now though - she is certainly more flatulent. If she had not been so old I would have had the gastroplexy done, but the vet advised against it at her age (13). It is hard when there are so many things that contribute to the condition. cowanbree Posted August 30, 2013 Share Posted August 30, 2013 Have you tried different meds? For instance Losex controls stomach acid which may or may not be contributing to the issue? I have a dog with health issues and if he doesn't have his Losex he is very burpy and inclined to vomit. He also can only have liquid food, mainly due to a throat issue but I find he is a lot more comfortable now I have him on liquids only Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yes it was another sedation but it was videoed and we basically examined everything internally from one end to the other and was able to determine exactly what was wrong. We have tried losec and 2 other meds on advise from the specialist in Melbourne who my vet has been in contact with throughout this. Newfymum Posted September 6, 2013 Author Share Posted September 6, 2013 Just an update we have been on homecooked minced chicken frames and vegies for a week and I think im noticing a slight improvement. she is managing 2.5kgs of this split over the day but she is still hungry so im trying to increase it but normally. Im hoping once she has put some weight back on she wont be as ravenous. Im also noticing her gas now stinks but I think that maybe just her body getting used to the change in diet.
