Gah, I Think I'm A Puppy Tragic!

What's your problem WIW? If you don't like the thread just don't read it. I thought others might share similiar things regarding puppies they are planning for or maybe people might just, shock horror, SMILE. But we wouldn't want anyone smiling on DOL would we?

Ignore the killjoys. Puppies are exciting! Especially ones that have been planned for so long. The excitement just builds up! And basset puppies are adorable!

Like I said there's a place that exists for this already, it's there so there isn't a gazillion " OMG I'm getting a puppy " threads clogging the place up.

The extra thread isnt hurting anyone. If people don't care they just wont open it.

ETA: average people. Some will always come in to spoil the fun and share another similar post instead.

ETA x 2: Kelpiecuddles, just a question.

Are both of these considered tricolour?

Yes :)

Infact that first one looks very similiar to one of the girls out of the bitch to be breds previous litter.

The first one would be called a black blanket tricolour, referring to a tricolour with a large proportion of black across the back

No worries, I hadn't come across them much but the girl we were hoping to take on a while back(things didn't work out so i do know it goes that way sometimes!) was a black blanket so i became aware of them then. Wasn't a huge fan to start with but they've really grown on me now.

I was at a small gathering tonight at a friend's house and she has a new foster puppy. Just a brindle boofer but to be honest I had no interest in chit chat with the humans. I just wanted to play with little Zia and check her out all over to see how her socialisation and handling is going.

I may have been caught sniffing her once or ten times. That puppy smell sends me right to heaven! And she was so cute when she fell asleep on my legs with her having puppy dreams and her little eyelids and lanky legs jiggling! Just nothing better if you ask me!

I've never had a puppy, spent a bit of time now with a litter just being there if the owner can't. So strange, whilst they are adorable I really look forward to having a romp with the adult dogs. Somehow I don't see the personality in a little one, to me they're cute but all in the same way. The adults though are able to be individuals. I must be broken.

We do pass a basset on our walks lately and he even jogs a bit with his owner which is super cute with all his dangly bits flying. They must be very gorgeous babies.

Oh they are gorgeous babies! This is baby Josephine. It was only when looking back at her baby photos not long ago that I realised how black she was as a pup, the regular tris do tend to fade out a lot as they grow. If you look at her in my sig you wouldn't know it was the same dog

Plus they are funny, she used to trip over her ears about every third step LOL

Hankdog I prefer puppies one on one. You get to see their little personalities start to come through and see them learning and discovering new things and they are just like babies who need a feed, a poop and a nap. They are so dependant on humans. I just love to see puppies go from romping around like possessed demons to dropping fast asleep in a heap. I never understand how humans can hurt them.

The earlier you become involved in the breeding process for a pup, the greater the chance of disappointment.

Missed matings, no pups of the gender you wanted, singleton litters, no show quality...

Something all breeders experience and if you are on a wait list for a breeding, something you might too. Be prepared.

Like I said, we've already been waiting quite a few years and we are prepared to continue to wait. We've already declined a pup offered from this breeder despite desperately wanting it because we knew the timing wasn't quite right. We've been offered one from this planned litter but in truth the timing is a little early for us even later this year/early next year but we would have made it work. So if she misses it won't matter, we won't be disappointed, we'll just wait a little longer and things will just fall in to place when they do :)

(I'm very hard to disappoint LOL)

oh what a wee darling!!!!

How exciting.

You know we waited two years for Horrible Herbert to 'happen'. We wanted certain lines, and we wanted timing to be OK.

We had the unexpected loss of my Heart boy just before his Mother came into season, so her pregnancy was a wondeful bonus.

I understand totally how you are feeling

Aww, sooo gorgeous!

LG, I agree, you definitely see their little personalities come out when they're one on one. And I swear that puppy breath smell has addictive qualities, I used to crave it with each of my three when they were babies and I spend plenty of time nuzzling shelter puppies to get more of it :o

Gosh I have missed DOL - someone who has done everything right as a potential and responsible hopeful soon-to-be puppy owner comes on here to share their excitement and nervousness and joyful puppy-cluckiness and we et a bunch of *It might not happen - everything might be terrible - you are bound to be disappointed* posts!!

So predictable it is tiresome!!

I am absolutely thrilled for you and will be waiting to hear your GREAT news just asap! For me, I have come to enjoy the wait for a new puppy -all the fantasies and daydreams have their own joy and the reality will probably be totally different and even ore happy!!

Haha yes Brooke, luckily I'm used to how DOL can be and have a very thick skin. Given the discussions I have had I think the chances f something not working out would hinge upon the bitch not falling pregnant, etc. Having seen the results of previous half sibling litters from the dog and bitch to be bred and the results of the pair in question as well the breeder has high hopes for this pairing and I have no reason to doubt his feelings that there should be some very good show potential pups to be had.
