I was wondering who is going to brave the heat on Aust Day for the RACV Flyball Comp.

Eeeeewwww ... don't wish to start an argument, but assuming the temp is around the 40C mark as predicted, is it about the humans 'braving' the heat, or putting their dogs through it?

Are you still going 2Tollers?

I will be at the Showgrounds at the Aus Day Show with no dogs though, so thought I might drop in depending on weather.

Mel.

Yep I'll be there Mel. Come and visit if you can. Sparty, LilBailey, KirkenMiniBulls and Clover will be there too.

Erny - The AFA organisers are rearranging everything so we can start earlier and finish earlier. We'll be running less heats too.

As far as my dog goes if he shows any signs of distress I'll stop running him. Mind you if Todd is too buggered he'll lose interest and won't want to play anymore. When he started getting a bit fed up at Wonthaggi he decided to go and visit Sparty and Bodie on the side line. ;)

Mel - They hope to finish around 1pm and then do the presentations.

I've never heard of those coats, sounds good though. You'll have to let us know.

I'll only have Todd with me. Lilli gets to stay home and play with the hose and lie under the fan.

Bodie is weird with heat, the other two stayed inside most of the weekend nice cool aircon but he was out and about outside  didnt make much use of the clam shell either but came ot play with the hose when i was refilling it

lol yeah SR u have to watch maggie mae run!! i swear one day she is going to rip her little minibull tits off over the flyball jumps she is so full on ;)

Geords will have to model the coat for us plebs

The flyball is actually part of the Australia Day Picnic and Historic Vehicle Display at King's Domain which is situated off St Kilda Rd (shares common border with the Royal Botanic Gardens). Looking at the map that was in Friday's Herald Sun, it looks like the flyball is in the section called Tom's Block and off Linlithgow Ave.

Here is a bit more info I found:

I'm coming if Todd and Bodie are going to be there

BTW where the heck is "Kings Domain" park? Are non-competing dogs welcome there? Pedro feels he needs to come too...

It's over behind the Shrine, sort of. An easy walk depending on where you can find a park, shouldn't be a problem, I think the public will stay away in droves compared to the usual turn-up. Carry some water maybe for Pedro and a collapsi-bowl. It is public park so he can be on-lead up to ringside. If he is sound-shy, be aware there is a 21-gun salute at mid-day which freaks some dogs out: (and possibly a fly-over by the Roulettes or other low aircraft noise) racing is suspended and there is a half hour recover time added to be fair to dogs stressed by the noise - which gives socialising time for people. The cars are great to see and the owners watch like hawks in case a dog might piddle on a super-shined hub-cap. It appeases them if you take a photo of their vintage car.

Update: the organisers have just advised that the schedule is cut down a bit again, it should all be over by lunchtime except for working out points and presentations. Flyball people should all have "got the memo" by email in the last few minutes. There will be a vet in attendance, and independent vet advice has been taken with a green light to go ahead but be sensible. Wet towels over crates, that sort of thing. The ice-cream sellers should do good: Frodo gets one of his two ice-creams of the year at the RACV flyball day, so he's not missing it for anything.

Vanilla. Mmmmmmmm.

We will be there, Clover will not be impressed she does not like the heat and El should still run... but i wont risk my dogs health for a few Flyball points. I am not sure if Tinny will come yet, i will make up my mind Wednesday night.

PC that photo is precious . I think it will be ice cream all round for my kids on thursday.

No I wouldn't run Fro if I thought it was risky either. I think we just pitch up and see how it is at the time.

Thanks, Pam took that photo of him, (you know Bunjee, now runs with Eastside) - Pam also uses a Nikon D70.

There is no way I would run my dogs in that heat. I wouldn't be surprised if they called it off. I don't do flyball comps in the summer months. Retrievers have double coats, and I see them slowing down so I know it is too hot for them. I don't run my dogs if temperature is over 25 C. My dogs health comes first. A lot of clubs won't train if the temperature forecast is 30 C or more. My dogs do love running in the cold and the wet, they have webbed feat after all.

If there is anyone that is in Melbourne and would like free tickets to this day including free drinks and food vouchers, just PM me cause I work for RACV and I got 5 tickets to the RACV marquee that I can't use cause I have to work.

More than happy to just give them away.
