  1. No I have no idea. He was listed as a Wolfie X and he does have some wolfie shape etc but have no idea what else is in there. He is 5 months and approx 17-18 kgs
  2. Hey Guys, Thought I would jump into the guess the mutt. I have just adopted my foster dog as he is adorable in every way. He is 17.5kgs approx. 5 months. I have called him Swampy. So what do you think?
  3. Powerlegs, I held the little man on Friday at 5 days old and he is a very contented fatty boomba
  4. So if you read the first line of my post I say I have not read the whole thread as it was your initial post that annoyed me. You have used my pictures to say 'She looks badly done by', when she looks perfectly happy. I do not see it myself, maybe you should pass judgement to the person that has allowed her to end up getting pregnant, leaving her at the pound and generally not giving a crap about her. Maybe focus your energy into trying to lobby for community awareness about desexing as opposed to having a go at those who are actually trying to help the dog and her pup without knowing the whole story. The title of your thread I thought was going to be an interesting topic, but instead it focused on one dog, one pound and one rescue community. Asking questions to generate discussion is one thing but when you begin with “I am quite disappointed even shocked that this has been allowed to happen” that is simply asking for the hard working people that put in a lot of time and effort to be defensive of the situation. Asking questions regarding the welfare of the dogs, fine. Stirring the pot, lighting the fuse then wondering why people are replying the way they have is not constructive. “Some photos. She looks badly done by. Poor girl.” Yes this “question to generate discussion” couldn’t possibly be inflammatory.
  5. I have not read all the posts so I apologies. However I am responding to the original post which clearly is quite inflammatory. This girl was temperament tested and during that I picked up she could be pregnant and the Registrar also confirmed my thoughts. Yes she was defensive in the pound around other dogs but who could blame her. However she was immediately taken to the vets and she met a few dogs there and was perfectly fine. It was confirmed she was pregnant with one pup. She was moved to a much bigger pen, she was given a shell with lots of bedding, she was being fed as best a food as the pound can supply, she was monitored by the vet weekly, she was closely monitored by the pound staff. To suggest the pictures that I took illustrate she is sad and forlorn is quite frankly BS. She was put up for rescue on here and predominantly and a rescue did not put their hands up until last week, at which stage she had given birth to a very healthy young man. The RSPCA have known about her for some time so why don't you take up with them why they did not take the Mum, while you are at it you can check why they no longer help with pups and the unwell dogs, however that is whole other kettle of fish. I, myself have been incredibly impressed with the love and care that this mum and bub have been given at DAS. They have gone above and beyond with this girl. She is a fantastic mum who is raising a gorgeous pup.She has been adopted by a lovely lady who will be bringing the pup back to DAS when he is 8 weeks. What do you propose should have happened? I am really irritated with this whole judgemental thread actually. I don't see the sadness here.
  6. So after much conversing with my mates and clients about hosting workshops and quite a few have said that they do not enjoy hosting workshops etc So I am taking the pressure off and putting on a Skincare Masterclass myself. It will be on at 3pm on Sunday 30th March at Tuggeranong Community Centre, you are more than welcome to come along. Please let me know if you would like to attend and if you have any questions let me know.
  7. Just wanted to know if anyone owns a Beauceron? If you do may you let me know please?
  8. In all honesty can you say that you to have spoken to them with any respect? Treat people how you expect to be treated. For the last 11 years at least ACT Rescue and Foster carers volunteers have been going into the pound to try and get some assessment of the dogs that are at risk of euthanasia. At no point in the 9 years I have been doing it have rescue ever been the only ones given access to the dogs that are at risk of euthanasia. Domestic Animal Services is an open pound where you can go and see all the dogs that are available to the general public. There are 2 large yards for the dogs to be met etc. Get your facts right before you slam one of the more accommodating pounds in Australia. In the case of the shepherd he had many people interested in him, he met a lovely couple who put a deposit on him on Saturday so maybe the constant barrage of phone calls they received after that was probably wearing thin.
  9. Looking forward to more pics Nina, I LOVE BIG BOOFERS
  10. There is a lovely Shep X in Qbn Pound in need at the moment. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/246653-queanbeyan-pound-nsw/
  11. I just thought I would take a moment to say a huge thank you to all of the rescuers that have assisted in rescuing dogs from DAS (Domestic Animal Services) aka Canberra Pound. We are lucky enough to boast one of the highest rehoming rates for a pound in Australia and this is due to interstate rescuers, volunteers at DAS and of course the dedicated ARF teams that give these dogs exposure. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Looking forward to working with you again in 2013 :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:
  12. Sad news but you should all be proud of the work you guys have done and the lives you have saved.
  13. He is so handsome. We were looking at him as he is the dead ringer for a dog ARF rehomed recently, the only difference was that the pigment around the nose was different.
  14. I thought I would add something, a few people have told me that she has presented well in the cage initially when she was in the drop off pens but when we were testing her yesterday she snapped at the handler 2 times. There was not a warning growl she just turned and snapped. The first being when the handler ran her hands down the front of her leg and the other was when she touched her back end. She also became very stmulated whe she spotted the small tester dog we were using. I put this here as the honest truth is that I didn't want my ignorance of the breed to sell her short. I have also had a few bad experiences with Akitas so did not want this to hinder her. There are times in rescue and testing when I see a behaviour I am not keen on and a breed person will say that thisis common of the breed. I have spoken to AMS and she has helped alot. The pound will only release this dog to a breed specific rescue.
  15. She was sold to someone in ACT but she is chipped to someone in VIC. I will get more info on Monday
  16. Its a little difficult dogmad as the name on the chip is someone that rehomed her 2 weeks ago and they were not forth coming with info on where she went to.
  17. Just wondering if there is a current Akita Rescue I contacted the 2 numbers on Operation Toby and one is not doing the rescue anymore and the other's phone is disconnected. Could you let me know please?
  18. Just wondering if Scout has any ball drive?
  19. Hi Everyone, I contacted the Army last week when we were temp testing Yard 35 as she ticked all the boxes. She got rscued by AWDRI who will be taking her up to be assessed. Anyway whilst on the phone I was told that they are looking for 25 suitable dogs by the end of the month. Dogs need to be under 3 years of age They need to have a strong ball drivem could fetch and return all day and all night if they had too. They need to be able to chase after a dead ball (so still chase the ball even when it has stopped moving Let me know if you think you have a dog that matches that and I can get the guys to contact you. Cheers Bev
