  1. If you are talking to me - because the coat wasn't coming out with the coat king. Or anything else for that matter. I have heard a few other people mention BC coats going weird when they get older. It had totally changed in texture and had gone very woolly and fluffy.
  2. Good job Muttly! BTW I did just clip my old border collie! Her coat has gone really strange. The undercoat was just not coming out and she really suffered during the 40+ days we had. Even clipped to a couple of inches the dead coat isn't coming out with a rake, coat king or slicker brush! I have to pull it out with my fingers. She looks bloody terrible! But no puffing and panting so I guess it did the trick.
  3. Puppy has been a bit snotty since her kennel cough nose thing 2 weeks ago. I have been trying not to panic as I know that it can cause a runny nose. But it has been 2 weeks now. She sounds a bit snotty and sneezes every now and then. Is perfectly ok in every other way. Has anyone else had this side effect and did it clear up by itself or did the dog need treatment?
  4. It is a bit of a worry if even touching the legs caused that much pain. My old border has stuffed legs so I tend to groom her laying down. The dog, not me! I would see if doggie was comfy about doing that. With clipping nails try folding the paw backwards rather than lifting the leg up. Sort of like how you clean a horse's hoof.
  5. This is how I feed now. I don't do it that scientifically though. I go more on the body weight of the dog. Too fat - less food. With the puppy I have just been weighing her to make sure she is putting on weight at a good rate. Some days she gets more food, some less. Which was how BARF was supposed to work before those patty things came out. I tend to do the bones in the morning.
  6. Quite a few of the premium food companies do canned food. I've fed a couple out but still prefer the Natures Gift if I have to use canned. If the dry food is a super premium one then I don't see the problem in adding a bit of mince, veggies to it.

    Poop Question

Marble I am slightly concerned that the puppy isn't as old as 8 weeks. Did you get puppy from a registered breeder? I would put puppy back on the diet that the breeder was feeding. And very slowly add the dry in, as in a couple of bits a day for that size puppy. If the puppy looks even slightly quiet go straight to the vet. If you are in QLD go to the vet straight away as there is a nasty virus going around up there.

    Poop Question

Jolly good! The BARF equivalant of weetbix is rolled oats. I used to add some mince to it.
  9. Eco 2000 is another soap free one. Very gentle. Can get from horse shops.
  10. As an ex-Barfer I now feed Eagle Pack with raw stuff. Whilst Evo is a good food it is sold by the Pets Paradise mob so some people have issues with that. You could go for something like 4 legs. A bit pricey but more on the raw side. The Eco loafs aren't too bad. Tinned stuff I would go for Natures Gift.

    How's the poop tonight Tess?
  13. My evil puppy raided the bin last night and had a lovely time with one of the sardine tins! Sardine oil all over the place, nice!

    Poop Question

Or maybe the breeder didn't notice? Us new mums tend to check these things more! I am not a fan of Optimum. It did give my last puppy runny poos. I am using Eagle Pack and BARF. Poppy had a totally raw diet previously and adding the EP didn't cause any problems. She seems to have a pretty good tummy though.

    Poop Question

Ok so you did add 2 new things - the necks and veggies. My last pup was quite sensitive about what I fed him. Was the breeder feeding Optimum? What are you feeding in the weetbix?
  16. I haven't been able to buy pet mince from the butchers for a couple of weeks. Something to do with christmas and the chicken places not supplying chicken frames. So maybe over BARF feeders are having the same issue and buying up mackerals!

    Poop Question

Do make sure puppy is getting lots of liquids. I was adding a fair bit of water to Poppy's meals for the first couple of days until I was happy that she was going to the water bowl by herself. If you are worried then take Noah today. I am certainly not going to tell you not to. I doubt anyone wants that responsibility if it turns out he is sick. Sorry that I was flippant in my previous posts. What have you been feeding him?

    Poop Question

I noticed! Try and relax a bit. Stressy mums always seem to have stressy babies

  20. Does anyone know when Berwick Dog Club is due to start up again?

    Poop Question

Yeah fairly normal for a new puppy. If is often suggested that you don't feed too much for the first couple of days for this reason. I gave little meals and slowly increased it as puppy settled in.
  22. I'm doing it with food, at dinner time. Puppy in crate with dinner, too busy eating to cry. Started off with door open. Then shut door. Am building time up after she finishes eating. Same principle with the run. Chicken wings take a while to scoff!
  23. I'm a vegetarian and whilst I am ok feeding the dogs meat I have trouble touching it. Even cooked chicken makes me feel a bit sick. So I am certainly not gunna be using chicken necks as a training treat anytime soon
  24. Yes tell your neighbours, I'm sure they will appreciate it. My new pup is the loudest border I have had. I am very glad I don't have neighbours! With the crate/run training I figure if Poppy yells then I have probably left her for too long. So I am doing it in tiny bits of time. I am trying to let her out before she yells. It is a pain if she does start yelling as then I have to leave her there for a while.
