You only have a little dog so you probably can feed all the needed food in a couple of training sessions. I might cut out one meal if I think puppy has had enough to eat. Have a 12 week border collie pup. Just keep an eye on pups weight.

Not sure were this 'they have to be weaned' has come from. Pups only get the antibodies in the first day or two. Some pups can still have the antibodies at 6 weeks, some don't. They need to be vaccinated as the mother's antibodies fade. Really the only way to know for sure is to get a blood test.

S. Spectrum here. Not in a tick area. Mind you I have wormed the border collies with all sorts of wormer in the past 17 years of owning them and haven't had a problem. Am very careful with the horse wormers though. -
Merry Christmas everyone!

I've hedged my bets - half super premium and half BARF. lol.

My new pup has a quite pink nose (the surrounding bit rather than the nose). It is slowly changing to black. I got absolutely savaged last week because I said I didn't want to feed kelp. Got told I didn't care about my dog, so it is a bit of a sore point to me! Kelp is just a multi-vitamin/mineral type supplement. Good to balance a diet but not needed IMO if you need a quality food. I did check Eagle Pack's web page and it does have kelp in it anyway, for any Eagle Pack feeders. I did feed kelp and brewers yeast when I did full on BARF. I really think it is important to be informed about what various feed stuffs do and the effects rather than feeding stuff because Joeblow said to. (not saying you did this Kristie, but the guy that gave me a hard time certainly did).

If you are feeding dry food it may be a good idea to check the iodine levels in that prior to feeding kelp.

How To Teach A Male Dog Not To Lift His Leg?
JulesP replied to oceanaussi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The only thing Brock marks is Fern's dinner bowl! Gross. And he only does it if they have yummy bones or something. He is very shy about weeing in public and never goes when we are out somewhere. -
Sorry your little Pom didn't make it

Do we expect too much from our human pupils? Definately!

Can you put your older Staffy in the same room? That calmed my last 2 pups down. I would go and let your neighbours know what is going on too.

Something I was told when I had my very first destructive doggie (he ate a apple tree!) was not to give him lots of toys at once. If they have lots of toys laying around then they just start thinking they can grab anything and it is theirs. I was told to just give one toy. An interesting idea I was told the other day was to tie a bit of rope around a chicken frame and tie that to a tree branch, so you have dangling chicken frames. I know doggie is driving you nuts but it really is just fairly normal puppy stuff. My dogs are little angels but I certainly wouldn't be leaving my shoes outside. Brock (2yo) is stuffed from playing with the new puppy but he still went and dug a massive hole in the lawn! (maybe he is planning to bury puppy )

This is what the other lady said about treatment: "We used the same treatment for all: First noticed they were ill - took them to the vet who gave them all a shot of "dectomax" (sp) to clense them of worms etc. Then once they stopped drinking on their own they got honey, powerade powder and water syringed down their throats as often as I could. This seemed to work to keep them hydrated as none of the pups died from actual dehydration...it was more of a system shutdown in the end. They also were on a product called "scourban" and were injected with long acting antibiotics. That's pretty much the treatment...the Little fellow who lived actually went through the same things symptom wise as all the others but instead of crashing he started getting better...all the others got "better" twice and then died very quickly. I think the main thing was for this little fellow as he started to drink on his own again...I don't know why he did but he did. He was on the road to recovery when I sent him in to the vets for the drip to speed his recovery along. The autopsy revealed nothing out of the ordinary, a few worms but the vet said there was definately not enough to kill the pups. There was minor hemoraging of the small intestine but once again nothing to kill them...."

4 of the puppies died. The vet did an autopsy but couldn't find anything. This lady is in Queensland too.

It was on the horse forum Eques. I think about 3-4 puppies died. 2 were still alive on drips last I heard. The puppies died pretty quickly. They were big pups too and were 6 weeks old. I'll try and raise her on the other forum and see how the remaining 2 pups are going.
-
That is no good. Someone on another forum just lost puppies to something that sounds familiar. Similar to parvo, without the smell. She was thinking it was the wormer.

I was sitting here pouting because I saw the Perth clinic and was thinking 'were is the Melbourne clinic'! Read down a bit further and there it is! -
Good luck Ness! You are a bit scary Ptolomy!

This might sound like a strange brag but......Brock chased a ball last night and picked it up! He did it in a fairly wimpy way but at least he moved after it!! Poppy is going very well at pre-puppy school. She is more outgoing than Brock but still quite placid. She does loovveee going on the puppy agility stuff though! She sits and drops and comes when called.

Apart from having fum with the doggies and improving my training and handling skills, I would like to have a go at CCD with Brock. I would also like to get Brock retrieving so I can pass the final class at school! With Poppy I would like to have a go at showing (but I am already really enjoying the obedience training with her!). I have pretty modest aims, lol.

What To Do With A Dog That Doesn't Like Raw
JulesP replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Have you tried some raw mince with his dry? Gradually reduce the dry and add bigger chunks of meat, then see if you can add some small bits of lamb flap, chicken wings etc. -
I've found that putting the poop in the area of garden that you want the dogs to poop in also helps.

If you go the crate I suggest taking some ear plugs! My last 2 pups have howled all the way home
