  1. I'd stick my head on the block and say no failure there ------ deliberate.
  2. So in an effort to encourage a culture of reporting this sort of animal abuse, which is what the industry needs if it is to stay viable, I hope the RSPCA, police, or whoever you give your tip off to will follow it up. Otherwise all that is left is animal rights activists working undercover. I'd laugh if I wasn't crying. I
  3. It is a worry, K, as this argument has been used successfully before. I've forgotten exact details, now, but it think it was used in some of the Live Animal Exports exposes. Yet somehow the police, RSPCA, and other organisations manage to uncover and stop crimes every single day. Go figure! Exactly, Aidan2 - extremely selective and "turning a blind eye" takes on whole new dimensions. I don't think it's got too many people beat, but then it depends on where your sympathies and allegiances lie.
  4. Poor darling. He must have been sucked dry. :mad All good from now on.
  5. OMG - amongst other things I think, my darling little Myrtie had Yorkie and Maltese in her make up. She had so much personality and I miss her every day. This little girl looks totally adorable.
  6. Just anecdotal, Rebanne, or can you back this up with hard evidence? Unless you can and are just relying on fifth hand reports, you shouldn't be adding fuel to a fire, small, nonexistent or otherwise. I could back it up but not for you. You are basically calling me a liar and a stir monger. It's not your breed having it's heart torn out. So back off! No, I am not calling you a liar or being a stir monger. You are categorically stating that people walking greyhounds have been abused. I am sure I am not the only one who would like to have hard evidence. And my breed (small fluffies and toy mixed and not mixed) have received more bad press consistently over the years on this board than greyhounds have.
  7. Hmm, that is just silly. Not everyone who turns out to be a good dog owner starts off being an expert. In fact, over the years, I have seen quite the opposite happen. I do tend feel that your second comment might be the case, though. Because there are more and more greyhounds appearing just being walked around the streets and obviously just pets, people will be more inclined to take notice and hopefully ask questions.

  9. Because, sadly, that is the way people's minds work. They will see all greyhounds as coming from situations where they "have been taught to kill and rip apart" small animals and hence nothing is safe around them. As I typed this I recalled a situation from not all that long ago. An acquaintance of mine had a little Maltese puppy who wasn't well. I told him to try her with chicken. "Oh no," he said. "Once she is fed that she will chase birds."
  10. I'm sure many Greyhound owners must be feeling as you are Brandiandwe. :( Too awful for words. But as to the part I've highlighted, surely you must have known that a lot of these horrible practices are rife in the industry? These sorts of exposures to a lesser degree have been aired many times over the years.
  11. Best practice = how little can we do but still make lots of $$$$ I don't believe anything will happen. There will be a bit of noise, some "show trials" and then it will be back to normal. The only way the cruelty will stop is if the sport was banned entirely. And that isn't going to happen (although it should). You can't tell me that any sort of regulatory body or the RSPCA doesn't know fully that these practices are going on. They could have been stopped at any time in the past decades.
  12. Thank you Ladies. I think he is a bit cute LOL. He is going around licking the floors now , something that he has only started to do on the odd occasion in the past couple of months. These oldies sure keep the worry levels high.
  13. Appalling Really appalling. I'm speechless. Hardly surprising.
  14. Same here but I bet they won't. Life bans are a joke as well, no such thing when you're that high profile you only have to look at the Waterhouse's. Yes, I am expected Gai to be Damed at any time.
  15. I wonder if Protexin would be better for Danny than Carafate? Another question for my vet LOL. I think they will do different things. The protexin is to populate the gut with healthy bacterial flora, the Carafate is to treat and prevent ulcers and forms a protective coating. I will be interested in hearing what your vets says and if they can be used in conjunction :) I did a bit of googling, Yonjuro, and came to that conclusion - but this laywoman's brain isn't really up to absorbing it all in from the written word. :o
  16. At $16 a bag, not much to lose and if it doesn't agree with Sarah and none of the other dogs like it or can tolerate it, you can give it to a neighbour  . I was doing the latter when I was trying to find something that Gussy Cat would eat a couple of years ago.
  17. I wonder if Protexin would be better for Danny than Carafate? Another question for my vet LOL.
  18. Westiemum, you can phone them with an order. I don't know if they are open on Sundays, but John mentioned that Monday was their day off, so maybe they would be there today.
  19. I used to be a raw feeder too, Westimum, but I guess like all things to do with stomachs of any creatures, age and illness bring on changes. Bunter is no yard stick as he will eat virtually anything that is called food, but when Jeune and Tamar will eat something straight off without carrying on as though it needs to go to the Royal Taster in case it is poisoned and then walking around it and sniffing with the greatest of suspicions, I reckon it must be okay. Danny wasn't too keen on the green tripe medallions, and his BIGGEST FAVOURITE EVER is the chicken breast . In the past if I have tried to get him to eat anything in the mornings, he has totally turned his head away because he obviously wasn't feeling well, but this morning he has had some dried chicken breast and goat wafers. AND has kept it down. Until Valbitz put me onto these suppliers, I had reached the stage of not offering him anything before late afternoon because he would either refuse it, or if he did eat it, he would bring it up. Valbitz bought my latest supplies for me because my previous order took eleven days to arrive . She included some of the dried turkey (which her dog didn't like) and my dogs loved it. Another food Danny will eat - just a small amount - is the Natural Balance sensitivity kibble. Trinabean meantioned it in a thread when I was getting desparate and I had to google to find a vet who stocked it, but it was just in the next suburb and was well worth trying. Frankly, I know it is drummed into us that raw is best, but all things are general, specifics are more important where diet and health are concerned. Look at ActuallyAngela's thread where she has been trying to find a kibble which suits her dog with tummy problems. Keep us informed. I hope that you have the good fortune I have had.
  20. I would hope so too. Sounds as though she has been reading US books. Be interesting to hear how they went.
  21. If that's what suits him - that's what suits him  . he continues to do well.
  22. Gosh Westiemum, your dogs and mine are sure putting us through the wringer I wonder if it might be worth contacting the people Valbitz referred me to. It is still a battle with Danny but because of Valbitz's referral, I now have some product that Danny will eat all the time. I know that eating isn't Sarah's problem, but they might be able to recommend some of their dried goodies and probiotics which could take away her pain and discomfort. www.bmanimals.net.au
  23. Oh my! K, that photo is so arresting. Arkie is a little stunner.
  24. Certainly not watching after those reviews. :(
