Help! My Neighbour's Dog Killed My Husky :(
Loving my Oldies replied to HuskyDrake's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your experience was horrific, HuskyDrake and as StaffyLuv says, your heart will be broken many times again by thinking of this. And I imagine that you can think of little else at the moment. One of my dogs, a tiny little Papillon X Chihuahua, was killed on Monday 22 September 2008 between the hours of 4pm and 5pm, I still think of him every day. I guess what saves my sanity is that I didn't witness it as I'd dashed our briefly to do some shopping. I cannot imagine the horror you experienced and will relive many times, HuskyDrake. -

My Greyhounds Were Attacked Today :(
Loving my Oldies replied to HazyWal's topic in General Dog Discussion
And not just of dog attacks - more or less anything. It is very frightening. You can see someone being interviewed on television and then read the story in the paper. I sometimes wonder if it is deliberate or whether the journalist just can't read back the notes taken at the time and doesn't really care. But where there is a recording, there is no excuse. And, of course, there is sensationalism . . . . . Recently I was referred to a specialist by my GP; the specialist sent me a copy of his report to my GP ..... my eyebrows lifted several times as I wondered at his ability when several points he noted in the letter were incorrect. I will be very interested to see HazyWal's story as interpreted by the journalist. -
My heart is very sore, Ams. Yours must be a million times more. Your work with Shar Pei and the love you gave was truly inspirational -- a word so often misused these days, but I use it here with deliberation. You have been the saviour of many many beautiful creatures and your story deserves to be there at the top of the rescue annals. Take care of yourself.

Yes, it's lovely. Shows the love and trust the mum has for tessic.

I suggest you take another look at your post #25 and apologise to HuskyDrake. -
I disagree, DOLer's are always advising people to report dogs that rush/bite. I would be doing all the above and as others have suggested but in no way would I be applying the slightest bit of pressure on this poor man. And just asking not to report is pressure. This is true, but in the majority of such cases, the dog owner is not taking responsibility and the sort of action that Wild is. Tough one.

Nah,I'm too old. I'll pitch Tamar up against Pickles. -
I know I've said my piece and others are of the same mind, but I am still gobsmacked at Iceberg's friend. How has the human race prospered, I wonder, in the face of such an attitude and such stupidity LOL.

I've just caught up with this thread and to say I am shocked is an understatement. IF you were genuinely trying to understand, you could have asked for a bit more information on how the attacke happened. Not go boots and all into someone who has just suffered a devastating loss. Totally unacceptable and deeply hurtful. -
I'm sorry the little girl didn't make it; I was hoping she could defy the odds. I applaud you, Tessic, for being calm and cool in the face of opposition. And also to accept with grace the generous advise by so many DOLers. May your little brood continue to prosper and your girl and boy continue to give you love and delight.

Oh god Letter to the Editor, I think. -
Thank god you stood up to your friend. What an idiot. Your dog = your rules. If someone wouldn't respect my wishes as to what people do or don't do with my dogs, they would not be welcomes in my home. With regard to people coming over, if you know they are coming, make sure Mack cannot get to the door - shut him out the back with a toy or a treat. If they come unannounced, ask them to wait at the door while you put a lead on Mack and then calmly let them in while Mack is on his lead and cannot jump. Just an anecdote: my sister made her dog into an hysterical wreck when people visited. Instead of doing the above, she'd start shrieking to someone to grab the dog and shut him away. It was horrible to see. Luckily, I wasn't around much, but saw the end result of her mismanagement. And it was the don't fault of course

Help! My Neighbour's Dog Killed My Husky :(

Rosette, I cannot and will never accept the sentiments in your last sentence. There is so much than can and should be done. 1. The neighbours charged with not containing their dog. 2. The neighbours charged with breaking the terms of their lease. 3. The council and police at least expressing their condolences to the HuskyDrake family and promising to do their utmost so ensure no other people and their beloved pets suffer in this horrendous way. 4. The council undertaking to abide by the laws that already exist. And probably more that I can't think of. Your sort of comment enables those who should be doing something to continue to do nothing. -

What a tragic tragic event . My deepest sympathies, HuskyDrake. When will the legal system step up to the plate? There are so many threads recently about people such as HuskyDrake just being abandoned because those who should will not do their duty by their communities. My heart breaks for you. Someone else will recall it, but there is a legal company focussing on animal issues; perhaps they may be able to help. It is just too horrible. There is another organisation called Voiceless which doesn't deal in cases such as this, but they may be able to advise you how to seek legal assistance. -
Ah,dear. The downside of loving . I'm sorry to hear of Collie's passing. A sad day for you and Bruce. I hope he can find another mate.

LOL ain't that the truth!! I've loved the Destiny and Bonnie stories. So few foster caring stories on DOL anymore. -
You seem to have it all under control. Congratulations on your little family

Unless an animal's fears and limited comfort zone is placing an impediment on the ability for him or her to enjoy life and making difficulties for the human family, I don"t see the need to try to "fix it". That said, I perfectly understand where you are coming from, Michelleva. You take her and Georgia out to parks where they meet other dogs and people and she always does very well. I liken it to their feeding: we wouldn't persist in trying to make any of our dogs eat something they didn't like, would we? I have a tiny dog who is very very reactive and I started to taking her to obedience classes just to have her mixing with lots and lots of other dogs and trying to lessen her really bad reactions. She was perfect LOL at classes. Back walking the neighbourhood and seeing other dogs . . . . still a nightmare Feeling as you do and wanting more for Bonnie, I'd be inclined to give it a couple of tries and if it helps, great, and if it doesn't well you have given it a try for Bonnie's sake. :) :) She and Georgia are beautiful girls and have a loving family. What more could they want
