Best Pet Store/warehouse In Sydney?
Loving my Oldies replied to Niki8's topic in General Dog Discussion
With 5 dogs and one cat, my flea/tick treatments are pretty expensive too and I buy them online from Priceless Pets. I must compare them with Budgets Pets. Ned must be getting a bit long in the tooth now :). I have been into this shop many times over the years and do find them expensive. For raw food and dried food like liver and kangaroo jerky I use Aussie Pet Foods. They used to have an outlet at Haberfield, but now operate out of their factory at 10 Shirlow Street Marrickville or online at http://healthypetsmeatsandtreats.com.au -
Oh to have the sense of fun and imagination of some people. Whenever (if ever) that couple has an argument they'd only need to look at the photo and all would be forgotten in the laughter.

We sound a perfect match. Not that I am an [ex-breeding] bitch :D :D :D , but running is beyond me.

Warning To Anyone Who Goes To St Ives Showground
Loving my Oldies replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
A very very nasty experience, LMSW, and good that you have taken action. I would keep up the contact with the police and rangers, because they may be a bit slow to get back to you and something like this has to be dealt with quickly and seriously. To those with half a brain, it was obvious that there would eventually be trouble, but so many people just don't get it. I have been over to St Ives Park a few times over the years, just going to markets and things and have often thought has great the park looks for dogs, but have been avoiding off leash dog parks for a long time. Too many variables, the worst one being that so many people have no idea about dogs' body language and have little or no consideration for the other people and their dogs. This applies to those who should know better, as well. I knew a woman who had several dogs and a couple of them were well trained for certain situations. However, in the home they were dreadful: jumping all over you, mouthing you, practically knocking you over, etc etc, but she just thought it was totally acceptable and would look on with a big indulgent smile while you tried to defend yourself. Sadly, this is the attitude of so many people - and not just in relation to walking their dogs. -
Do Adult Dogs Know A Puppy Is A Puppy?
Loving my Oldies replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
It is lovely and it makes me think about how important are good pareting skills and appropriate discipline. I reckon Bonnie is looking at Lucy and thinking: Wow aren't we just so beautiful !! Again - good parenting and confidence. That's lovely, P_S. Gosh,Vi. I remember you bringing Charlie as a puppy to one of DABS sausage sizzles and now you have three . One of my fondest memories from being a volunteer walker at a pound many years ago was when we were joined by a couple who used to bring their very very large Malamute. We had a mixed breed (Staffy type) puppy and the Malamute used to lie on the ground so the puppy could play with him. -
LOL! It's Bonn that I am going to run off with then.

When Adopting A Rescue Dog...
Loving my Oldies replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Probably some of the dogs you have rescued/fostered over time, Plan B, would be the sort of companion the OP is looking for. -
Please Help Identify This Breed
Loving my Oldies replied to tamed01's topic in General Dog Discussion
The person who asked. It's just a discussion and something that does interest people. I'm always being asked what breeds my dogs are (all rescued from various pounds). It's called having a conversation about something that interests you :) :) -
If Money Wasn't An Issue, What Would You Have?
Loving my Oldies replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've just been looking at Juice's thread about her new collars. I would love a couple of Bull Terriers, but as I don't have the energy for them, if I had the money, I could have them and employ someone young, strong, energetic (sexy) to help me train and play with them :D :D . -
A BYBer who was doing something right then  . He is just gorgeous. Some years ago, shortly after I moved here, I was recommended a groomer and when I arrived at her place, she was looking after her daughter's brindle mini Bully. I just stood and looked at this beautiful little dog whose body was being flung around by the wagging tail and said, "OMG she is so gorgeous!" The woman stared at me because no one had said that before - LOL.

When Adopting A Rescue Dog...
Loving my Oldies replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Because probably 99.9% of the time, someone is enquiring about a particular dog. I am sure that if someone was interested in a particular dog, but put in their application that if said dog wasn't for them, perhaps the rescue group could recommend another dog or another rescue group. It isn't too difficult to put a few questions onto an application form. :) -

Not necessarily. There are rescue groups with their animals listed on PetRescue that I would run a million miles from . -
When Adopting A Rescue Dog...
Loving my Oldies replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
You bet there is ... sadly. Remember pet rescuers are human beings with all the faults and failings that implies. Just because someone rescues a pet from a pound doesn't mean they are a good person. Start trawliing through the PetRescue website, if (more likely when  ) you see a dog who appeals to you, contact the rescuer ask all the questions you feel you need to ask. Explain what you are doing, that you are justing starting your search for your dog and if you sense even the slightest antipathy don't proceed. A good rescuer WELCOMES questions. When I rescued and fostered, if I felt my dogs weren't suitable, but also felt they were genuine if would always refer them on to another ethical rescuer. Make notes. Don't leave a rescuer hanging. If they get in touch with you, respond. -
I've never understood why people advise not getting two puppies at the same time :). I did and used to take them to training and train them both at the same time. Difficult? Yes, but it was worth it because they had each other when I wasn't there. Breed is definitely important, but so much depends on the owner and how they treat and train the dogs. As you are young and energetic, Ruin Maniac, perhaps you could consider looking at medium sized dogs, but if you really want to keep with little dogs, the Papillon is a great all rounder: beautiful, intelligent, easier to groom than other long haireds (lol), energetic. Have a look at the breeds in the 101 forum. Remember to have fun and not over-analyse. :D :D

It's Official, My Whippets Are The Best In The World!
Loving my Oldies replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm impressed on all fronts too.  -
My deepest sympathies for your loss and for poor little Lottie. Seeing one of our pets grieving just compounds our own grief because we don't know how to help them. You won't erradicate the scent of Michael so please don't go through the trauma of moving unless, of course, you were planning to do so. Only once have I experienced having a dog inconsolable over the death of another and it was something I don't want to see again. It was dreadful. The only thing that helped was time and I adopted another dog.

I popped into this thread knowing that the Poster would be given assurances that a Cavalier is totally safe. Edited because apparently Hawkesbury isn't desexing. -
Dog Friendly Lawnmowing Contractor
Loving my Oldies replied to Dxenion's topic in General Dog Discussion
Despite being totally a hunk and gorgeous, the lawnmower contractor is a bit too big and bushy for me :D but I would love some of that grass. Mine is all dead dead dead. He is well aware of the OH&S requirements too. -
Dimples And Dweebles
Loving my Oldies replied to Little Gifts's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Oh no. That is awful. I hope it is just transitory and settles down. Last time I was t the vets, I was a coughing sneezing machine and I live with five dogs and a cat so maybe Roan's coat just needs a little time for the person to adjust. -

I love it that you have been rolled :D into the Shar Pei world, Puppy_Sniffer . You give wonderful stories and updates of your fosters. There is a brown Shar Pei who is regularly walked on Pennant Hills Road, but never close enough for me to see his face properly. He has a lovely gait and is obviously enjoying himself to the max. I'd love to see some photos of Dweebs/Albert/Roan in his wonderful new harness and with his new family. -
Couldn't resist taking a look at the Facebook page. First thought: who couldn't love a face like that? She is gorgeous, Mantis. I wish you both much happiness for many many years.
