Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

I did something similar to the suggestions here about using one of the other dogs to help bring Magnus home. In my case one of our dogs went missing on a mountain in Canberra so we got the other dally to track him and with the addition of her barking etc we found him. I am hoping he turns up soon. So sad re the two boxers. -
Very nice image!! Congratulations Bec!!!

I was wondering about that also. Can Steve or Toohey give out the address of Caitlin (if she gives permission)? Or maybe we could send them c/- of the Dog grooming lady mentioned earlier. O.K. Probably the best address is 349 Transmitter Rd Wooroolin 4608 .This is Pacers Queensland address and it will be the quickest and easiest to pass them onto Jane when we can. Lesley and Marg are right in there and it will be easier to get them to her when she is awake. Thanks for that Steve -

I do hope Magnus is found. I noticed someone asked about sending Jane (? is that her name?) cards, flowers etc. Can anyone suggest where we could send them please? -

I have lit the candles and incense. Am Playing This Mortal Coil "Song of the Siren" It's a beautiful song and tho not exactly relevant these particular lyrics are my focus - especially for the 12 beautiful souls who are lost to us tonight. And for my hopes for Jed to recover physically and spiritually/emotionally from this terrible tragedy. ETA amended lyrics -

Pup And Cat Fighting For Dominance....

Thats good news, I thought they sounded like they'd be fine together -
I dont know what to suggest but good on ya for caring. I've tried to help several dogs around my area for similar reasons. One of them is a gorgeous JRT who has been chained up alone at an abandoned house for years. The owners live in another house and leave him there to "protect" the empty one. Not that he would be able to do anything if someone decided to break in - apart from his size and friendliness he cant reach the house coz he's chained to a post at the back of the yard. GARRRD people are STUPID!!! I managed to convince them to let me walk him sometimes but he pulled so hard he choked and I ended up carrying him lots of times. So a friend bought a harness for him and we used that but we couldn't walk him all the time as we have dogs of our own etc So we tried to encourage them to walk him - even gave them the harness. They did a couple of times then stopped and we couldn't get the harness back of them. He was living in appalling conditions, tiny kennel that had no protection in windy, rainy weather etc and freezing cold Tassie winters. Barely any bedding and what he did have he'd drag outside in his frustration where it would get wet and filthy. He did have adequate food and water but he didn't seem to care too much about his food - there was always lots of it sitting in the bowl covered in flies etc. ANyway, I can't count the number of times he got himself into strife. He nearly hung himself several times, wound the chain up so he couldn't move etc and every time my friend or me would rescue him and tell the owners off. Three days ago he escaped and disappeared - we were searching for him at 11 at night, with a torch in howling cold windy weather. I was so concerned because where we walk him there are mine shafts and there arent too many places he can go around here without getting into trouble. He showed up the next day (gawd knows where he'd been all night) and his owners were so ashamed that they'd dragged us out to look for him - plus with another explanation from us of WHY he keeps doing this stuff - they've finally moved him down to their house!!!! AND we have seen them walking him every day since. YAY!!!! Smart dog I reckon. I think we achieved this through sustained nagging in a gentle friendly way - even tho secretly we were furious with them all this time. We spent a lot of time explaining that he is bored, going insane, just wants to be with them, loves them, etc etc and I think finally, with the shame of seeing me and my friend wandering the streets at all hours more concerned for him than they were, they finally took in our advice. Plus some committed effort from Mr Jack Russell himself. Hee hee. His escape was truly worthy of a story all by itself

I sure hope someone in jail tries that "discipline" technique on him. Scum of the earth.

I use diluted tea tree oil in situations like this. I find it's a brilliant antiseptic. Just a thought

Pups Interacting Through Fence
spottychick replied to Kody's_Mum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That sounds silly to me. The dog at your place is a pup right? Of course she's not mean. Shes probably just playing. I think your neighbour needs to chill out and stop nagging you. In these situations I'd feel like wearing a DILLIGAF t-shirt when I see her LMAO -
Pups Interacting Through Fence
spottychick replied to Kody's_Mum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes! I don't really understand why there is a problem here. Lots of things startle puppies. The pup would get used to it after a short while, just like it would get used to other "scary" things as it grows up. -
Dalmatian Wiermeraner Pointer Great dane Labrador Golden Retriever Not sure what else Maybe a Jack Russell just for something different

Pup And Cat Fighting For Dominance....
spottychick replied to Bluefairy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I agree with persephone. The cat is not swishing its tail to tease the dog. There doesn't seem to be anything in your description that indicates the cat "deserves" anything or is doing anything wrong. It sounds to me like the cat is trying to get to know the puppy but is, quite sensibly, being careful/cautious about it. The weeing in the floor maybe a nervous reaction - she has a new animal in the house and is unsure of her own safety. From what you said, the cat has been great with dogs before so she knows how to interact with them (not 'give in to them') and is probably just trying to suss out the new kid. I think it's interesting that neither animal is being hurt by the other - or is the cat getting injured when Zoe has hold of her? If it was me I would be reassuring the cat and working with the puppy to calm her down around the cat. Did the other dogs play chasey with Shadow? -
Hee hee I love that riot-dog - he looks like he's having a great time in there - maybe he thinks it's all a game

The Raw Refrigerated Meat Rolls At The Supermarket
spottychick replied to Rileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Unless there's some other kind of roll for dogs the one I'm thinking of (one of them is VIP brand) are cooked as MR & NR said. I have bought them at times when I can't get raw food sorted for some reason or just as a change. They are better than most of the other muck you find in the supermarket. The only other dog food I buy in supermarkets is the Natures Gift canned chicken varieties (mostly for my stone-forming dally). But if you are desperate and have no other options available then the dog roll is the best of the supermarket options. -
Really? I didn't know that? What about all those sections/threads/posts about rescue dogs and pounds and stuff? I'm a bit taken aback by this info. But in any case, I don't see the point of this comment in regards to the topic of this thread. I'm not fond of APBTs to be honest - I've had so many bad experiences with them but I've also had bad experiences with kelpies, border collies, blue heelers, German Shepherds even a vicious lunatic springer spaniel once. Unfortunately the bad experiences have been more frequent and more severe with APBTs but every single time the owner has been a nasty piece of work. I always feel sorry for the dog because I can see why it's behaving so badly - it isn't having a nice life. Clearly it's not the breed that's the problem and to me it's stupid to think it is. So I hope it is not a lost cause for these dogs because I'm positive if they were kept out of the hands of certain people we wouldn't be having this discussion. This is an interesting comment given that we don't actually have that many purebred APBTs in Australia compared to other breeds of dog. How is it that you've had so many bad experiences with them? Well my guess is they probably weren't ALL pure bred if there aren't many purebreed APBTs in existence. There seem to be an awful lot of pitty crosses around. That in itself is clearly a problem but doesnt take away from my negative experience of these dogs, purebreed or not. And yes I do know what they look like (I found the pitty in that site ). And it does not alter the fact that the dog that recently viciously attacked my dalmatian girl with no warning, had her around the throat snarling and carrying on while trying to flip her on her back, was a pitbull - I know where the dog came from and have met the dogs it was bred from - neither of whom are vicious. But the owner of the dog is a complete moron, wont desex her, leaves her tied to a stake in his unfenced back yard, where any passing dog can access her, and just lets her have puppies then shoots them when they're born. I once found the body of a pitbull-cross on a walking track in town. He was a young male dog, very beautiful and had just been shot and dumped there. Later I found out it was the same moron who had shot it - because it wandered onto his lawn when his pitty was on heat. I also discovered the poor dog that was killed was actually her off-spring - one of the few who had survived the owners initial shooting of puppys because a local had rescued it. My point was that it's not the dogs fault anyway - regardless of the breed/mix - it's about the owners. I am simply being honest about my experiences but I am also being supportive here.
-
Mate - I think you're right to tell them that. As a dally owner of many years I can say that if my vet didn't even know how to spell the breeds name (and come on, it's not that complicated!!) I wouldn't cross them off completely but it would certainly make me feel dubious about how competent they are with them. I might go elsewhere!

Unlikely! I've never used this product but have heard good things about it. What a shame they've sold out to a mega-company, especially that one.

Poor little pup and I am concerned about the pup's parents. Heaven only knows what sort of conditions they are being kept in......
