  1. Also perhaps step up her obedience for a while and reassess you pack order - are you the boss or is she?
  2. Thanks Rappie - best wishes with the new job.
  3. Do not give Cod Liver oil instead - it contains some vitamins which can be toxic in large doses. I read your post Staffy-Lover and increased my boys dose as a result - he has not had a seizure for 9 months (usually has them every 3 months) I don't think Fish oil is a magical cure - if your dog needs medication this is the most important part of their treatmet and as Puggles and others have pointed out - getting the dosage right and the mix of drugs and being absolutely firm about the time the meds are given is critical and there may still be breakthrough seizures. If you give too much fish oil your dog will get oily poos and you need to decrease the dose. I put the caps in cream cheese and the dogs eat it like a treat
  4. Talking about new members - there is one called "puppies mum" who needs help with a J russell x that clusters and is not responding to meds as well as hoped.
  5. Puppies mum - there is a thread on here which a lady called Puggles write in - I will bump the thread and you should email Puggles her dog has clusters and she is very knowledgeable. It is called "my dog just had a fit/sizure" and was started by Varicool.
  6. I'm the opposite, I love my dogs to look well groomed - I clip them to accentuate their good points and minimise their bad points - when I see a badly groomed poodle It is all I can do no to kidnap the dog and give it a fabulous haircut.
  7. In that case your were not going to "the right" groomer. LOL.
  8. Poodle 3081 - I have to say I don't think my new KM2 sre the same quality of workmanship as my KMs that are 10 years old - I was quite dissappointed in them actually but they are just back ups. Think I will look at Thrives for my next set. I have never liked Andis as I found they vibrated a lot - has this changed with newer models?
  9. Bloss - I think you mean Oster clippers - yes they are still being made - great clippers but I personally don't like them as the caseing gets very hot. It is certainly much easier to groom a dog which is co-operative and has what I call "grooming manners". It a makes life easier for the grooomer, more enjoyable for the dog (rather than a battle) and means it is all over more quickly. Some of the most difficult dogs I groom are those that have been done by their owners (allowed to develop bad habits) or younger dogs whose owners waited 6 months before getting there first clip
  10. Sounds like your baby got what is called a "teddy bear"clip - this is a generic clip used on poodle crosses by groomers. I only clip off faces of crossed if requested - usually because I think they look ugly with a "poodle face" unless they are very poodley looking. Giving a poodle haircut to crosses is not the norm so if you wanted this you would specifically have to request it. The KMSS is designed for people to clip their little pet dogs and the KM2 is a proffessional clipper for breeders, groomers, showies etc. Have you looked on ebay?
  11. Hi, I groom several malt/poodle crosses and if you wish to do it yourself you need the 10 blade for under the eyes, bum and tummy and could use a 5f, 4f or 3f for the body (the 3f will leave the hair the longest). The KM2 would suit your purposes or the KMSS (in which case you will have snap on combs in place of the blades I mentioned) You will also need a pair of scissors.(add another $100.00) and nail trimmers, and a very good quality slicker brush and metal comb. Your dog probably got a very ordinary haircut from the groomer because it has not been taught "grooming manners" in addition to the puppy wriggles. Unless you teach the dog to be co-operative you will find that the haircut you give the dog will be much worse than what the groomer achieved or you won't be able to manage at all or may cut the dog with either the clippers or scissors. Grooming skills can the learnt but it is neither easy nor cheap.
  12. Thanks for the update - its good to know how they are going and any changes or new info.
  13. Both - Like the f blades coat needs to be clean, dry and free of matts and brushed to use snap on combs. You may feel more comfortable with a toe blade but does shaving really stop the mud build up?
  14. You could also shave inside the pads with a toe blade if it is a mini or toy poodle - if it is a cross or some other breed I would just use a pair of scissors and trim off any hair that protrudes from the pads.
  15. I agree with Nicole. Most salons use a 10 to fft. What we use at home on our own dogs would be different to what goes on in a grooming salon. I use a 30 on my own dogs in pet trim but would never do this on someone elses dog as their skin is not used to it - mine are retired showies and were shaved every week with a 40 while being shown. Stick to you 10s for a while to fft.
  16. Caring for a show coat of any breed and a pet of that breed are quite different. On a pet you can use a good quality slicker and a rake if necessary, cut out mats etc I use a slicker on my standard poodles when they are in pet trim but would never touch the jacket of their show coat with anything other than a pin brush (or bristle) and comb.
  17. Malsam, is this a pet or showdog and what breed?
  18. I've been using "Clean Ear Solution" also made by Bayer.
  19. Yes you can use a human dryer with CARE. If it has a cool setting use that - if not do as pw suggested hold the dryer far back and move it around to avoid burning the dog - yes you can. If you brush and dry together the coat will dry faster - if you cant manage a brush use your hand to run through and fluff up the coat while using the dryer with the other hand.
  20. Melbell, pm Puggles - her dog is on a combinatiion of meds - some dogs are not controlled with phenobarbital alone. Have you been really strict about giving the meds on time? Good luck with your puppy and the wedding!
  21. I have a bitch who did this a couple of times as an older adult. She has always been a very heavy sleeper and did it after very vigorous exercise, large drink of water and enjoying a very deep sleep. Now I make a point of waking her and taking her out to the toilet if we have this set of circumstances - no more accidents.
  22. So this means problem solved and Tango can go off the seizure meds?
  23. It will not stop your dog being terrified and I have found it works for some animals and not others.
  24. I would want to know why my dog has a "gurgly tummy".
