  1. Glad Mr Gibbs is doing so well!! Hope the rest of recovery goes smoothly... Without any dramas for you MG Happy birthday to gorgeous Rosie... I have a huge soft spot for Foxies. My Grandad had a girl, Nelly when we were kids. Top dog she was!
  2. Yay I have worked out how to DOL on my smart(ypants) fone!!!!! Haven't been on here for sooo long!
  3. Ivy, our girls have been on Natural Balance for the last 4 years or so. I chose it because its lamb based (RR has protein allergies), no wheat and the bonus was its WA made!! I havent had any probs with it at all. In fact, Im always being asked what I feed the ridgy as she is so shiny and healthy :D I have just last night, started them both on Big Dog BARF as I really wanted to get away from kibble!
  4. I wish when they reported dog attacks, that unless they know for sure WHAT the breed is, they shouldnt mention breed at all! It does nothing but increase bias towards particular breeds, most time unnecessarily.....It shits me to tears when they report that a staffy X, or Pitbull X or whatever X has attacked someone, then show a picture and the poor dog doesnt resemble the breed whatsoever! The dog they showed last night - whatever the poor creature was, was definitely NOT a happy dog, or one that shouldve been anywhere nears kids! It certainly wasnt behaving like a pet Id like to have! And yes RR's were bred to bay lions, but hunt down smaller game and protect families from intruders.......They are quite capable of attacking something, be it animal or human
  5. Hi persphone. :) Grapes are not recommended for dogs. Px I used to feed our first Ridgie peeled grapes, yes I peeled them for her, before I knew they were toxic to dogs!! She loved them! She also used to pick Lillypillies straight of the tree - yukky!! Our dogs eat all fruit and veges except lettuce.....BRD usually gets a carrot after her dinner and they get cauliflower or sweet potato with ther dinner usually. I shared a punnet of strawberries with them the other week....They were getting a bit past it, and I couldnt eat the whole punnet - so they got to share, which they loved!!
  6. Both ours have endless nicknames, and they respond to all of them! Poor Zola has Herbert as one of her nick names, dont remember where it came from - but she responds to it!!!
  7. LOL you must be getting old like me Mirawee....... I must confess, my radio is tuned to ABC am in the mornings, only coz I like having talking on my way to work at 5am!!! Then its straight back to JJJ..... Poor Boots, hope he enjoys his bath!!
  8. Poor bird!!! RIP Mr Percival Idiot dog owner Funnily enough, thats the answer I get when talking to people whose dogs wander onto our property - hes just visiting to say hello, he wont hurt anything! My livestock doesnt know that Dickhead Keep your dog on a leash or on your property, easy-peasy!
  9. I would love a Senji also .......... :) But having 5 unfenced acres isnt a real good home for one!!!
  10. RS, its a West Australian Thread, doesnt say anything about being about dogs  Ok, so we agree that commercial radio sux, we only have two choices down here.....so for me JJJ it is! At least you guys have a range of crap to listen to!! And truth be known, Id probably think Nickelback songs were ok if I didnt know who I was listening to ;) Dont they sound a little like MB20........ Ok, Ill stop stirring now!! I am looking forward to dog training tonight ;)
  11. Love you ST :D You are so right about a 12 month old JJJ song being called a "new release" on comm radio....that makes me laugh Yep, I think I hate commercial stations coz they play a good song over'n'over'n'over'n'........AND they have annoying shitey ads!!! JJJ plays different songs, different genres and have great live shows! I do like Johnny S though ST, makes Nighshift an interesting time!! Father Bob rocks!! I did however listen to Nova on my way home from the sticks a month or so ago, and quite enjoyed that - they were playing some great 80s rock!!!
  12. Who or what are mb20 im sure there will be plenty of Perth stations that will play Nuckleheads Nickelback for yas ;)
  13. Mine has no shame either, although when he poops on walks he first has to lift his leg to pee and them starts pooping while one back leg is still in the air Our Kelpie bitch will do this, start out with a wee (usually marking where the other dog has weed) and end up having a poo as well....We call it the Kelpie Segway (sp) Dasha, I have probs with our ridgy who will not poo unless there is some sort of bush to hide under - and it has to be THE right tree or bush....Quite difficult if we are away from home with no shrubbage!!! I do manage to get her to wee, thank goodness - but sometimes that takes alot of me saying "Wee" in the most ridiculous voices!!! I hope you find a way of training to toilet, must be uncomfortable for him!
  14. Painful is right!!!! Ah Skrillex, how I love theeeeeeeeeeeee ;) Sorry girls but JJJ shits all over the CRAPFM we have to put up with down here! And, no sorry no Nickelback within a few thousand miles Hehe, one thing I dont understand about JJJ is that they LUURRRVE Kanye West (ICKKK) but dont play Pink who I think is far more JJJ style than Kanye
  15. I wanted a decent sized dog to come out with me when I went horseriding.....It came down to 3 breeds and the Ridgy won :D I didnt really know much about the breed at that stage, but when I met our breeder I just new it was right! Kelpies have been in my life since I was very little, and I dont think we'll ever be without one of those either :D Two very different breeds, but I can honestly say i love both breeds equally :)
  16. Oh, hell yeah Amypie - Im over the moon about the upcoming weather NOT :mad Im just glad Im on RDOs, and dont have to venture out into the disgusting heat!!! I have the vet coming out in the morning for a complete Llama vet check, and we are heading out tomorrow night but thats it! I think Australia Day will be spent sitting in water, listening to the Hottest 100 on JJJ :) I had a stinking migraine yesterday, and last night - i think from sleeping in the heat after ns....so I feel very ordinary today But I have managed to do a spot of training with the hounds......Sit stays, recalls & returns and Im also teaching Wandy how to hold a dumbell (think shes got that one ;) ) and to go to the box....getting there with that one too!!! Such a joy to train. Training tonight and for once Ive done some homework Mirawee, you definitely need a R&T girl, so if I decide to get a show pup from you in the future there will be a choice of B&Ts and R&Ts
  17. Lab Rat, didn't you love the comment from the TM owner who said that a TM's idea of being with you, was if you were in the same country. :) Yes!!!! You can almost see what sort of dogs they are just by the "look" on their face!! The list sounded quite like our current Ridgeback bitch!!!!! So bloody independent!!! So bloody stubborn!!! But Geeeeeez, those TM are just so damn beautiful!! Make me sigh just looking at them!! I hope to meet one, one day, but I dont think there are any in WA!
  18. Cant give you any idea of $$$$ sorry Daveri, but given the bitch is a young Ridgy X, can you PLEASE mention to her the pups NEED to be checked for a thing called DERMOID SINUS.......When I read YOUNG, RR being in pup I just about had kittens myself!!!! One year old is far too young for such a dog to be having pups - they are really just pups themselves.....Ive never bred, and wont be in the foreseeable future, but am quite close to our RR breeder and have a fair idea of what goes into a litter - scares the crap outa me!!! I hope this girl has her pups without any dramas, and the girl in question learns and gets her girl spayed
  19. Thanks for that link Mita Those lists of "are you" or "are you not" suitable for a TM are excellent!! Confirms what I already knew, I AM NOT suitable to be owned by a TM
  20. I dont have any experience to offer, but just wanted to say that they are The most beautiful dogs :) .....I know I could never own one though as I just dont have the personality......I have an ongoing battle with our current ridgeback, so theres no way I would dare get a more independent, strong dog!!! (LOL, sounds like Sinead O'Connor ) I will continue to drool over pictures of them and the odd "real" one I see :) and stick with breeds I know I can handle without having a nervous breakdown :D Good luck with whatever breed you choose, GSD or TM and remember ......PUPPY PICS ;)
  21. I did a little jig of excitement for you Mirawee Heres hoping that one of the four is show worthy!!! and yes a red & tan would be far better for breeding prospects!!! Dont forget - we need pictures when you have them ;) Ive been taking lil Wandy to dog training this time, we started two weeks ago! She is having such a ball - although she wants to eat all the other dogs!!! I think there is only one dog that wants to be friends and play with everyone....the rest (5 girls!!) arent interested! Even Im learning new stuff!!! Its such a great little club - helps when the instructor is sooooo into it :D sorry to hear about all the sore hoppy dogs After Wandy broke a toe a few years ago, we went through months of on and off again lameness......She has 6 monthly Cartrophen jabs, and is on Glucosamine & vit c everyday and I dont think Ive seen her limp in the last 12 months!! I hope all have their probs sorted!!!! And soon!
  22. I am soon to start my two (RR & Kelpie) on Big Dogs Barf. When the kibble is finished its onto the BARF Turkey for the ridgie who has (a bit like Oso's dog) lots of probs with meat proteins, other than lamb and possible turkey! And the BD Barf turkey is the only one with 100% turkey & turkey byproducts. The Kelpie is going to try the lamb. Im a bit worried about how Zola (RR) will deal with it, as she has been on lamb kibble and human grade lamb mince for quite a while now. It took us quite a while to figure out what she could and couldnt handle - vomiting, tummy upsets and itching in her ears and mouth. I cant remember the last time she had the runs, which is wonderful :D If it doesnt work for her, I will happily go back to kibble & mince - she also has whole carrots to chew, sweet potato and cauliflower as she lurves her veges  I feel Wandy the kelpie will do well on the BARF, she doesnt seem to have any food issues and thrives on pretty much whatever she gets, little love :)
  23. Have a look into Rhodesian Ridgebacks.....Great family dogs. They love their family, love going everywhere with their family and if brought up with other beasties (chooks etc..) are usually good with them!
  24. Hey fellow West Aussies, I know I havent been on here much at all in the last few months, but I havent had a lot to contibute! But I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas & WONDERFUL New Year!! I hope so much that 2012 is a far kinder year to everyone, as this year has been a total BITCH to too many people I care about Enjoy your day tomorrow, oops, today, I will enjoy watching our two girls opening their prezzies
