LOL "Fiona", that is most definitely true

Drinking red wine midweek is not the norm in your house (said as I polish off glass two...) Which class have you entered her in?
-
Does that mean you have entered her in a trial Ptolomy????
-
It wasn't intentional... but I saw how nuts she goes for sweet things. She stole some Krispy Kremes at a DOL meet once (highly embarrassing, but hey, what's new with Daisy) and it became a bit of a joke... so one night we were at training and a DOLer bought Daisy a Krispy Kreme as a joke
-
110% serious!!! That and gingerbread is my super special high value treat - I am not kidding, she would rather have a sweet biscuit or donut over meat any day!! I don't use it every time, usually only for "special occasions" like trials etc. This is what happens when I crack out a donut at training... or a gingerbread bickie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EirXW2xt52Q ETA: And she doesn't get the whole biscuit or donut, well maybe if we got a really good pass (but that hasn't happened yet ) LOL
-
I wish I could say the same thing, but I happen to like Krispy Kremes too ETA: Although I did buy some weight watchers jam drops for her for our last trial, I had no desire to taste them, no way were they as good as mine! I didn't want to taint my tastebuds with some grotty low fat biscuits

Careful or you might hurt yourself...

I wish Dante could steal some of her enthuasiam! Missed this earlier - thanks Sas! I am sure you could do it with Dante, if I can do it with Daisy, anyone can!

Aww come on Steve are you on a roll today???

Wow, I actually think that's a really great idea for deciding whether you would want to use something on your dog. It also kind of reminds me of this video i saw ages ago - LOL. I've put an e-collar on myself and it was nothing like that at all... in fact I couldn't even feel the first several times.

If You Had Your Obedience Dog Again
huski replied to RallyValley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Scent discrim is heaps of fun to train! I would start by building drive and focus and nothing much else until I had that where I wanted it and the dog really knows how the game works. I would also teach backend awareness very early on as I think this really helps to train a good heel position. -
I'm going to surprise everyone and vote for wine too

But I think Aidan's point, is that if he was what you would class as a purely positive trainer, and his methods always worked, he never had issues with how he trained, never had a dog he couldn't fix etc then why would he be any better a trainer if he decided to use certain aversives? Why would he change what he is doing, if it works for him? Aidan is not talking about the bad PP trainers but the ones who are getting results. I am by no means a PP trainer myself BTW but I do get where Aidan is coming from. Who are we to say he would be a better trainer if he used certain aversives? How do you know his methods aren't working well and would work better if he did use aversives? If he's never found the need for them why would he use them?

So true Erny. I always ask... which dog is smarter? The one who does whatever you ask whenever you ask as soon as you ask it to; or the dog who looks at you and says "...why?" LOL.

Vid from training tonight; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EirXW2xt52Q Sooo many handling mistakes... but I guess that is why I film myself was happy with Daisy's attitude though

Training Recommendations For A Pupppy
huski replied to su888's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Like Aidan said, what is $400 over the life time of your dog? I've seen dogs ruined by cheap and nasty training clubs, I bet those owners only wished they'd had gone to a GOOD smaller private training class rather than taking a gamble on their local club. I'm not saying all club training is bad, I've been a member at my local club for years. But there is no comparison to the training I've gotten when I've paid more and had a one on one session with a qualified and knowledgable behaviourial trainer. Dog training and behaviour isn't black and white, I've done the black and white training you get at obedience club and it did not work for my dog at all. In fact it took a lot of work to undo. It wasn't even that it's a bad club, the method just did not work for my dog. I know I'd rather spend $400 than go to a $5 class that is not going to work for my dog. I am happy to pay for quality instruction and training, investing in my dog is worth it especially as you will carry the knowledge you gain with you with every dog you train, not just the one you take to class with you. The best suggestion anyone can make to the OP of this thread is to research into his to two options and really understand the difference between the two training clubs/classes. -
Training Recommendations For A Pupppy
huski replied to su888's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
IMO there is NO way that most standard obedience clubs could come even close to the quality of training you'd get from a place like Underdog. Cost is not always indicative of quality, that's true, there are plenty of places that will rip you off but there are also places that charge very little for classes and you get what you pay for. Tapferhund, unless you've done classes with Underdog I fail to see how you could possibly know if it's a "rip off" or not. To the OP, I would personally be inclined pay a bit more for a GOOD training class than a standard obedience club, keeping in mind too that obedience clubs are normally run by volunteer instructors who will rarely have the specialised training and qualifications and experience that the trainers who run classes like Underdog have. Class sizes will also be larger at obedience clubs than they are at private training places. -
I bought them from Rocstar - http://rocstar.com.au/index.php?act=prd&am...&prod_id=80 Ingredients are on the above link

Great job everyone!!!! Wow Sas you are smashing through it, will have your CCD in no time
-
Sounds like it could be prey drive... I would personally be getting in a trainer who knows how to work with drivey dogs and would be building a cat run to keep kitties safe
-
I need one of those t-shirts that say 'smack the handler, pat the dog' or whatever it is

Thanks everyone for Mr Mishy's birthday wishes!! I can't believe my baby is eight years old already Well normally any squeaky toy would last maybe 15 minutes in my house, or on the rare occasion half a day, he is very quick to disable squeakers including with cuz toys and isqueaks! However, the egg is a bit different because the outside bee bit is a soft cover and the egg inside is quite hard. You can see it up close here; It's been four days since I gave it to him and it's still squeaking!

Aaaand I hate days when you feel everything is just wrong Leaves me feeling sad and frustrated, and then I get madder at myself for allowing myself to feel that way and wonder why I keep at it Today was one of those days. The positive though, Ruby did her 3 minute sit/5 minute down out of sight stays (and a group stand for exam, though the examination wasn't very thorough at my request). Here's hoping for a good session next time to pick me up again and show me why I keep perservering. Being a perfectionist and not being able to deliver on that is a horrible feeling! I definitely know what you mean RS! Although I must admit now we generally don't have bad training session if I look at it from the perspective of - is Daisy keen and enjoying herself and working to her potential. There's lots I do to stuff it up though which is frustrating.

What Shell said It's a tool just like any other, it is all about how it's used by the person using it that is important. In fact would sooner use a prong than a head collar with my dogs.

I locked her in the house so she couldn't But she has tried to steal his new toys - only because he wants them of course
