At the end of the day, do you really know what people are thinking?? They are probably wondering what they are going to have for dinner that night We all know the pitfalls of trialling...even the best trainers have had bad days in the ring...they take that experience and find solutions to their poor performance. Embrace what you learn in a poor trial and don't worry about those outside the ring...use that energy on you and your dog and things that you can control :D I had an average day in the ring yesterday...all my fault and I know where I let my dog down...had a Royal crowd watching...I have no idea what they were all thinking and I don't really care...am I going back tomorrow?? Sure am It's true you know, I saw a Greyhound go in before us and it didn't do as well as the owner had hoped for, we were hoping and praying for it to do great, I mean they are even more of a rare sight than we are....I never thought she was a crap trainer or the dog was crap, I could see before she went in the ring she was just like me.....about to crap herself! True guys ;) I guess I mean more when people try to give you feedback thinking that is how your dog normally works, seriously anyone who saw Daisy at her last trial would be shocked if they saw how she normally works ;) I know I shouldn't worry about what other people think but sometimes it's hard not to :D

Hope everyone enjoyed the workshop! I found it really interesting. Was so happy with Daisy by the end of the weekend, we had a real breakthrough with her crating.

Let me know Sas. I don't really want to trial again till I get the problem sorted, it's just no fun for Daisy.

Missed this earlier - great work AD! can't wait to start agility

I love this thread! Can't wait to hear more about Poppi. Chloe looks like a real natural handler

I hate when you have a bad run and the judge and anyone watching think that you are a crap trainer and/or your dog is poorly trained. I always end up wanting to explain that my dog isn't normally total crap, that it was all handler error ETA: Although at our last trial (usually referred to The Worst Trial Ever) the judge said she thought it was all my handling and said "I bet she normally does pretty good heelwork doesn't she?" and then after the trial walked by when I was doing a bit of heel work with Daisy and commented on how good it was, I just needed to get my nerves sorted.

Wine?? LOL. Sorry, I'm no help here, I have the same problem To the point where she can be on fire just before we walk in the ring and then when we do walk in, will drop out of drive (which freaks me out and stresses me out even more) and it's all down hill from then. Part of my problem is also the way I handle her before we go in the ring, it's different to how I will handle her at training too, so I've been changing that lately so she will basically be crated right up until we go in the ring.

Totally agree with Poodlefan I have always liked GSDs but if I ever got one (seriously considering it down the track) it would be a WL not a SL. I'd have more chance of getting what I want in a WL shepherd than SL. But I don't just want a pet and if I was just after a family pet dog that didn't need a job to do, I would be more inclined to get a SL. I don't mind that there is a SL and WL distinction in some breeds. Not all pet owners want to own a high drive working dog, and sometimes SL can give them the breed they want but with an easier to live with temperament. Happier dog, happier owner. I must admit I HATE the look of some of the field beagles however there's not as big a distinction in beagles as in some breeds and you still see SL dogs working.

But training is NOT breed specific. It is temperament and drive specific. Even within a breed, you will get variance, you will get low drive examples and higher drive examples. You will get dogs with softer nerves and some with stronger nerves. Even within a breed you can't possibly handle all of the dogs the same way. There are also a million and one ways to train a dog. There's not just one magical method that will get a reliable dog. -
I can't do the 2nd or the 3rd.

I would see if you can go and observe a class without Mollie first, so you can see what kind of methods they use, and what the trainers are like. You can tell pretty quickly if that's the kind of environment you want yourself and your puppy to learn in.

Then what's the problem? No one here has said, it should never ever be used at all full stop. The issues people had with what was posted was that it was being recommended as a guaranteed fool proof method on a dog the poster has never seen. I would run a mile from ANY trainer who told me to air block my aggressive dog as a first, only and best way of dealing with his aggression. Oh and sure those "couple" of posters are not the same ones, Jesomil? -
The Plastic Cup Test, Featuring Daisy Realisation there was something edible underneath: Instant Time to get treat out from under cup: Approximately three seconds Does she get bonus points for looking inside the cup to make sure there wasn't more food still inside?

Who told you that? If you were happy and comfortable with Danielle then you should go with her. Guess it really depends how much that persons advice means to you. There are people who will tell you never to touch X trainer with a ten foot pole and there could be ten times the number of people who will recommend them. I wouldn't necessarily be put off by one person's recommendation. -

It's a bit hypocritical IMO. Malsrock has just argued in another thread that there is a massive difference between WL GSDs and SL GSDs, yet here we are saying that no - a SL is still a working dog In an emergency situation I would do anything to keep my dog safe and keep other people/dogs safe but I don't see why air blocking should ever be the first choice training method for ANY dog. -
There's not much Daisy WON'T do now for the opportunity to eat food
